And others still—Light, Wind, Poison and Magma. Dragons as varied and dangerous as the land they claimed.
They were not the only creatures in this world.
Beneath the ground, stone wyrms slithered like forgotten serpents, older than mountains. In the oceans, sirenfolk called with voices sweet enough to lure even dragons to ruin. In the skies, humans rode griffins and wyverns like war-steeds, daring to tame beasts the dragons considered lesser. And within the cities of men, mages bent elements to their will—some strong enough to rival dragonkind.
But even among all this wildness, dragons stood at the top. For they alone could scent the world in ways no other creature could.
To be a dragon was to live by scent.
It was the first language a hatchling learned. The way they knew mother from stranger. The way they found home even after storms or exile. Through scent, dragons felt safety, danger, emotion, even intent. To a dragon, another’s scent was more than recognition. It was memory. Identity. Belonging.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
And above all—it was how they found their mate.
No dragon needed to be told. The moment their mate crossed their path, the scent would strike them like lightning, resonate in their bones. There was no mistaking it. No denying it.
Bonded pairs always knew. Always.
This was the world Sovarielle was born into.
A Sound Dragon of cliffs and sea wind, daughter of leaders, sister of laughter.
A dragon who once heard the world’s rhythms with perfect clarity—and scented it with equal depth.
Until the day it was all taken from her.
Her family. Her horde. Her scent.
Her place in the world.
This is her story.
The story of the dragon who lost the one sense that defined her kind.
And what she became in its absence.
To enrich the story and bring the world of Eiratheon to life, I’ve created The Scentmarked Archive—a companion space for readers who enjoy exploring the lore beyond the page. Within the archive, you’ll find codices, artwork, and an interactive map introducing the regions, dragon hordes, mythical races, and human cities featured throughout the story.
As you read, you’re welcome to explore the map to:
- Learn more about the lands the characters travel through.
- Discover the ancient lore behind dragon hordes and siren alliances.
- Uncover how humans, shifters, and magical creatures shape the world around them.
The archive and map are designed to deepen your experience, whether you explore them before reading, alongside the story, or return to them as the plot unfolds.
You can find the link to the Scentmarked Archive and interactive map in my bio.
Let yourself wander—every corner of Eiratheon has a story to tell.
Sovarielle, I live with anosmia, which means I have no sense of smell. I lost it as a teenager, and while the cause of my own condition was far less dramatic than Sovarielle’s, the challenges she faces are rooted in my own experience.
Sovarielle, however, learns to adapt through heightened hearing, giving her story a fantasy twist that I hope adds both wonder and weight.
Sovarielle’s journey in her teenage years because that’s when my own changed. It felt right to explore what it means to lose something so fundamental at an age when you’re still learning who you are. Sovarielle remembers what life was like before, just as I do—but she’s still young enough to shape a new way of living.
Sovarielle’s story will resonate with anyone who has ever felt different—and anyone who’s ever had to find a new way forward.
