Sept 17

  Dear Dad,

  We aren’t lost.

Or, we’re lost, but we’re pretty close to the edge of the valley, we think, so we should be good to leave here soon. Probably, at least, if all goes according to plan, we should be able to leave here quickly.

And all that we need to do right now, is take some big ~ass~ cliffs out. Not that, ignore that, that was Reese.

We’re going to get out by climbing some much bigger hills than the ones we took to get in. I see now why this was not on the suggested shortcut list, but it will be a lot harder to get out of here than it was getting in. The entire back side of this place is like a bowl, which kinda makes sense as to why this back area is more densely packed than the front half. It's harder to get to and probably safer.

No one’s sure how long it’ll take or how exactly we’re going to get out cause none of us are actually cliff climbers for fun or any other reason. I can’t even remember the last time I got on the climbing wall at school. I think it’s going to be hard, but hopefully, we’ll be able to get out soon enough without getting hurt.

Willow and Reese were talking about backtracking a bit, seeing if we can go another way, a maybe even slightly more straightforward way. We ended up spending so much time talking about it that we didn’t get the chance to climb out tonight, so we did end up walking around a little bit, looking for another way out as the light dwindled. We even spent some time talking, staying here for a while longer and then maybe trying to leave later, like in the fall or something, but I think that would probably be a bad idea in the long run. We didn’t find an easier way to get out tonight, but we’ll keep looking in the morning.

If we go back a little bit, I think we might have just gotten slightly off track from where Lilandra was saying to go, so we might just be a little higher than we need to be. But her map also doesn’t have directions or anything. Also, it doesn’t have any identifiers we can use once we’re out of here. But she did freehand it, so I’m still impressed.

We’ll find a better way out when the sun’s up,

Love you, dad, hopefully, we’re just days away from home,

  Jack
