The basilisk hissed and snarled as it received that devastating attack. However, as damaging as that meteor may have been, it was not enough to completely kill it. Realizing this, Miri began casting several more Meteor Impacts as a follow-up in order to finally finish off the monster once and for all.
Meteors descended upon the chamber one after another, creating a series of tremors that echoed across the dungeon. While the basilisk had received a second hit, it was able to evade the third—looping and winding across the floor as it pursued the two women. Seeing the vicious creature approaching, Miri grabbed Anne and used Traversing Wind once more to teleport them out of the way. However, while they were able to avoid the basilisk’s head, they were blindsided by its tail, which whipped around and smacked the two of them into a nearby wall.
Miri and Anne felt the full brunt of the impact as their bodies flew towards the wall in a hard thud. It felt as though some bones may have been broken in the process. Anne would have immediately tried healing those injuries if not for the basilisk’s next attack—reeling its head back at the two before proceeding to lunge at them for yet another time. This prompted Anne to quickly put up a Protective Ward to defend herself, the light-blue energy barrier repelling the creature’s advances.
On the first lunge, the monster’s snout collided with the barrier, causing it to recoil back slightly. However, on its second time around, the basilisk actually opened its snake-like mouth wide, unhinging its jaws in order to try to swallow the barrier whole. This entire endeavor looked incredibly bizarre, with edges of the basilisk’s elastic mouth stretching outward to wrap around the outer edges of the barrier—almost appearing as though it was trying to eat something that was too big to fit inside its mouth.

Once the basilisk’s mouth had gotten a firm grip on the barrier, it began biting down on it—the force of the bite causing the barrier to crack little by little until it eventually shattered into pieces of solidified mana. Anne flinched backward from having her defenses breached, an act that would have made her fall to the ground if not for Miri holding her up from behind.
Right as the monster tried to follow up with another lunge attack, Miri grabbed onto Anne and teleported both of them away once more with Traversing Wind—this time at a location where they’re less likely to be attacked by either the head or the tail of that beast. Seeing how its targets had moved further away, the basilisk decided to switch tactics and used one of its longe-range attacks—spitting a jet of purple toxic mist towards them.
In an attempt to counter that toxic mist attack, Miri thrusted her staff forward and cast a spell that would be ideal for this particular situation.
“Void Vortex!” Miri shouted as she unleashed what was essentially a magical miniature black hole off the tip of her staff.
As the vortex traveled forward at a rather slow pace, it sucked in all the toxic mist from its surrounding area before heading directly towards the basilisk itself. However, the monster was able to maneuver out of the way of the vortex’s traveling path just in time, causing the vortex to instead collide with the wall behind it. The collision resulted in an implosion that was able to catch the basilisk within its blast radius, damaging it greatly.
