Chapter 108

From the moment the cave slimes started attacking, Miri was able to see their stats with her vision.

  Cave Slime

  Level 5

  HP: 45/45

Even though each individual slime was very low level compared to the two of them, their sheer numbers more than made up for it. All around them, there were about three to four dozen slimes, all surrounding them with a ferocious frenzy.

Miri and Anne tried their best to keep the slimes at bay with their Protective Ward and Crescent Arc combo. When that was not enough and they started to get overwhelmed by the slimes, Miri grabbed Anne by the waist and used Traversing Wind to teleport them away from the horde, relocating themselves to a safer location.

“There’s too many of them. We can’t fight them all,” Anne said.

“We don’t need to,” Miri said. “We’re the ones who have the star rune. We just need to escape with it.”

With that in mind, the two tried to escape through one of the multiple tunnels leading out of the cave. However, as soon as they approached, they realized that the tunnel was completely sealed with a wall of multi-colored crystal.

“Oh, come on! Seriously!” Miri exclaimed.

She and Anne then hurried to another tunnel exit, fending off some of the wandering slimes along the way, but that was sealed off in a similar manner as well. Out of frustration, Miri tried attacking the crystal wall with a multitude of attacks—Starlight Bolts, Crescent Arcs, Flame Orbs, Shock Orbs, Chill Orbs—all of which had barely left a scratch on that wall.

Judging by their appearance, all these walls seemed to be made with the same material as Caleb’s crystal barrier. If that thing could tank a hit from her Meteor Impact, there’s no way all of her weaker offensive spells would even have a chance of cracking them.

“There’s no use trying to escape,” Caleb told them. “I’ve already sealed off all the exits within this cavern. Surrender your star rune now and I might just let you two leave this place alive, after which you two can obtain your star runes from elsewhere. If you continue on being stubborn, you will find yourself eliminated by being devoured by a horde of slimes. Not exactly a glorious way to go, if I do say so myself.”

“Oh shut up!” Miri said as she continued fending off the incoming slimes alongside Anne. “I swear to the Goddess of Salem that if I can get you out of that barrier, I’m gonna kick your fucking ass!”

“Miri, what about that skylight up there?” Anne suggested, referring to the large hole that acted like a natural skylight to the entire cavern.

  “That’s a no-go. It’s too far away,” Miri replied.

Her Traversing Wind only had a maximum range of about 20 meters and reaching to that ledge at the top of that skylight seemed to require more than that, maybe around 25 to 30 meters. It’s not a hypothetical estimate either. By equipping Traversing Wind, she could sense exactly where she was going to teleport to by seeing a spectral outline of herself at that specific location—a standard feature for some teleportation spells like Traversing Wind. And right now, the location of her outline had indicated that she was never going to reach that skylight even if she’d tried.

“Well, then, what do we do now?” Anne said.

“Screw it! If we cannot run, we're just gonna have to fight all these slimes!” Miri said, bracing herself into a battle stance with her staff. “Bring it on!”
