Mission: Return to Your Origins
The past is never truly buried. Hidden within your origins lies a legacy waiting to be reclaimed. The Asteriscus Magus family, the place that you came from, requires a strong leader to take it over. Whether through diplomacy, deception, or force, seize control of your birthright and bend the family to your will.
Type: Main mission
Take Over the Asteriscus Family: 0/1
Reward: 10,000 academy points and 1 chance to pull a Nexus Temporal lootbox
“Well… this is going to be troublesome.”
To think that his next mission was to take over the Asteriscus Magus family… It was unexpected, though not beyond his wildest dreams. However, now that he thought about it, as a fourth-sigil Elemental Adept Magus, it wasn’t entirely out of reach. The current head of the Asteriscus family, Victor’s father, was a middling fifth-sigil Elemental Adept Magus.
Of course, he wasn’t about to rush into this blindly. The Asteriscus family manor was located on the other side of the kingdom, and even though his strength was formidable, he wasn’t arrogant enough to assume he could waltz in and take control without careful preparation. If he wanted to succeed, he needed to be at his absolute peak.
I should at least form my fifth sigil before making my move, Victor thought.
That said, he had a limited window of time to tie up loose ends at the academy before setting out. He needed to carry out the new update, recruit the assistant professors, and introduce the Teleportation Waypoints — all of these needed to be stabilized before he could leave for an extended period.
This would be quite a journey, after all.
“So, are you really going on a long journey?” Lizbeth chimed in, sounding and looking a bit restless for some reason.
“Mhm, that’s the plan,” Victor nodded. “The rewards for this mission are extremely generous. Furthermore, if I can take over my family and convince them to move here, the academy would gain several professors.”
There were several Elemental Adept Magi in the Asteriscus family, and while none of them were as powerful as Roland, they were still old experts in their fields. If he could bring them into the fold, the academy’s progression would skyrocket, perhaps even turning it into a mid-sized Magus academy, second only to the Arcane Radiance College in the kingdom.
Lizbeth crossed her arms. “I get that it’s a good opportunity, but isn’t it a bit dangerous? You’ve never talked much about your family, and I doubt they’ll just hand you everything on a silver platter.”
Victor smirked and let out a short laugh. “Of course not. If it were that easy, this wouldn’t be a main mission.”
Lizbeth pouted. “See? That’s what worries me!”
To make the Asteriscus family submit, Victor first had to pass the trials handed down by his ancestors before challenging the current head of the family. As a Magus family, they, especially the current head, would undoubtedly use all kinds of supernatural tricks to ensure the challenger failed — or worse, died. It was, without a doubt, a risky and dangerous endeavor.
Victor chuckled, leaning back in his chair. “Relax. I won’t just rush in unprepared. That’s why I plan to form my fifth sigil before setting out. By then, I’ll be strong enough to handle whatever resistance comes my way. Let’s see… two to three weeks from now should be doable.”
She huffed but didn’t argue further. “Fine. I won’t try to dissuade you anymore. On that note, what should be our next steps?”
“Hmm…” Victor held his chin. “How’s the progress of gathering materials for the Magus tower?”
As much as he hated the idea of building a Magus tower for someone else, the academy did need a strong protector or backing — an established Magus with enough power to deter outside threats. There would be no better candidate than Valeria, the Fallen Princess. Besides, what kind of Magus academy didn’t have at least one Magus tower?
His could wait.
Lizbeth tilted her head. “It’s going well, though some of the rarer materials are taking longer to acquire. The players who have taken up the role of merchants are overseeing the purchases through the channels they established with the expedition to Brightmoon City.”
More and more merchants and peddlers were arriving in Thornwood Village, and many players who weren’t fond of combat were capitalizing on the opportunity to get rich quickly in the game. However, with an increasing population, small disputes were bound to arise between the villagers, merchants, and players, which was why Brown had been stationed there as Victor’s representative.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Victor nodded. “Good. Once the foundation is set, I’ll only need to know if Valeria will keep her end of the deal.”
Lizbeth gave him a knowing look. “Heh. Still struggling to accept that deal, I see?”
Victor sighed. “Yeah. But it’s not like I have much of a choice.” He shrugged. “Still, it’s risky to have her take any position without me overseeing it, no matter how much she’s shown that her intentions aren’t hostile. So, this should wait until I’m back.”
Actually, in the grand scheme of things, Victor didn’t plan on building just one Magus tower but twelve. Eleven of them would correspond to the common and rare elements, serving as the department of each element and the focus points for specialized research and training. The twelfth, positioned at the very center, would be his own, aligned with both Cosmo and Chrono elements.
As for their locations, the western area of the academy grounds was still empty, making it the perfect place to establish them. If he designed the towers in the right formation, he could create a grand magic array that would enhance mana flow, the convergence of elemental particles, spellcasting efficiency, and even defensive capabilities across the academy. They could also host powerful defensive formations that could stop even Sigil Conversion Magi.
This wouldn’t just be about building Magus towers — it would be the very foundation of the academy itself!
“But it’ll be a project that takes months, if not years… Well, with the players growing stronger and more numerous, it should be completed much faster,” Victor mused. Not to mention, the brainwashed mercenaries were still tirelessly working in the mine, extracting elemental marble — the primary material for the towers.
On another note, ever since the expedition, the number of mechanical golems in the citadel had been steadily increasing. Victor was considering lending these golems to the players, whether for construction or combat purposes. Lending — because these golems were not for sale. However, the ones produced by Eleanor and the players through replicating these golems could be sold freely.
Victor looked out the window and noticed white snowflakes beginning to drift down from the sky. Apparently, winter had arrived. Thanks to the magic formations protecting the academy, snow couldn’t pile up more than a centimeter on the ground, and the temperature across the academy grounds stayed well above freezing, allowing crops to thrive without issue.
That aside, it was time to prepare a new update announcement.
Magus Academy Online Testing Server Beta Version 0.3 Update Announcement
Major Update:
- New Content — “Golem Deployment”
Players, we are well aware that the full implementation of golems in the game is long overdue. With this update, the mechanical golems that assisted during the undead invasion will now be available for players to borrow. By spending merit points, players can deploy them for whatever purposes they desire — whether for construction, resource gathering, or combat support — as long as it complies with the academy’s guidelines. - New Fast Travel Devices and Convenience
Say goodbye to long and tedious travels! From now on, three “Teleportation Waypoints” have been established to allow instant travel between key locations. These three devices are placed at the academy, the Thornwood Village, and the entrance to the dungeon, Steelrose Order Stronghold, right beside the chasm. We hope players will use them to their fullest. Of course, each usage will consume some infused mana and will have a small fee of 20 merit points.
- Announcement of Selected Assistant Professors
Following a rigorous selection process, the Headmaster NPC has interviewed and selected a group of qualified players to serve as assistant professors in the academy. The final list of chosen candidates will be announced after the update is implemented. - Winter Has Arrived
With the arrival of winter, temperatures are dropping, water is freezing, and plant life is beginning to wither. However, thanks to protective magic formations, the academy’s environment will maintain a spring-like climate, ensuring that daily activities remain unaffected. That said, players should still be mindful of the seasonal changes beyond the academy grounds. - Auction System Update
The auction system has been revamped! Auctions will now be held weekly and also allow players to list their own items for sale. Additionally, a new “Mystery Box” gacha feature has been introduced, enabling players to purchase randomized items at a fixed price. Don’t miss out on your chance to obtain rare treasures! - New “Guild” System
We have heard your feedback regarding the limitations of the party system when facing large-scale enemies. To provide better long-term organization, the Guild System is now available! Players who have reached the third stage of Initiate Attunement can form a guild through their Shadowlink Mark for a set cost of 2,000 merit points. Guilds will have additional management features to facilitate cooperation and large-scale missions. - Increase in Total Quota for Applicants
The quota for closed-beta players has been set to 2,500 or more.
- New Grand Project: “Twelve Magus Towers”
To further enhance the academy’s capabilities, the headmaster has issued an important grand project — the construction of twelve Magus towers to the west of the main building. Please check the mission list for more details on how to contribute!
