Intermission: A Truthful Moment

Something has been bothering me from the moment we entered into it, I can’t really figure it out myself. I don’t mention it to my party members though, it feels too much like a trick of my senses to bring it up to them. The feeling persists though, something nipping at my senses from somewhere, like a trick of the light or an echo. It keeps compounding as we continue our investigation of the room and it adds onto the fact that the core hasn’t grown since we last saw it. Maybe it was the elemental in the room that was giving me the feeling, something about it setting off my parinoya. The feeling didn’t dissipate even after a closer inspection of the elemental though, which in and of it self was something wholly fascinating. I was ready to just drop it all together as a bad feeling but then, I spot something sitting on one of the coffin lids. It doesn’t look like anything else in the whole room, and instantly sparks my curiosity, and makes that feeling grow.

I don’t know what possessed me to not tell my friends, maybe it was something to do with my sense or maybe it was curiosity boiling over to stupidity. All I can be sure of is that I simply waited as they left and then approached the object slowly, not wanting to startle the elemental or the dungeon. There was a definite amount of tension since there seemed to be something special about, and it was starting to get suspicious. I got within maybe a few feet of it and the energy of the whole room seemed to change drastically. It felt almost overwhelming as I stood there looking at the coffin and really examining everything. It looked ornate, noble even, and aside from that it didn’t seem physically that special compared to any other coffin or sarcophagus. That feeling though, it still nipped and implored me to look closer and closer, and without realizing I was reaching for it.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

I was able to stop myself before touching it which was a relief to me personally because the elemental has gone from suspicious and worried to looking to be ready to cut my arm off. I pulled the offending limb and had to run through everything that happened over again. There was something weird going on here, like every instinct I had wanted me to do something. My body was drawn to….the gem? Inlaid on the top of the stone casket like a brilliant marker of some divine or glory won right to rule. It took me focusing to even keep myself from moving again but I was just able to get my mind together enough to stop peering just with my eyes but with mana sight.

The shear energy caused me to stumble back a little from the gem, no, the core. As I finally understood what was going on beyond a shadow of a doubt. The dungeon was far more clever then I had given it credit for, even despite me seeing evidence of it from the moment I first entered. The dungeon had crafted a brilliant little ruse that had fooled everyone who has come in here and I feel stupid for having fallen for it myself.
