I encountered this world's first inhabitant entity as my torch ticked past the twenty-two-minute mark.
"Appraisal!" I requested politely, keeping my tone down.
The night hadn’t passed yet. It was still dark. And I had zero interest in attracting something like a giant, icy, demon-goat-chimera-bear-with-griffin-wings-and-multiple-snake-tails to hunt me to the end of the world.
I still hadn’t fulfilled my wish of getting a girlfriend, after all!

I moved slowly to an open space, keeping eye contact, and stabbed the torch into the dirt, angling it to flood the area with light. My surroundings had yet to change; still a redwood forest with towering trees and nothing unique to stand out. Actually, perfect place to begin combat!
I gripped my spear with both hands, it was a two-handed weapon after all, and I faced the creature with respect and anticipation.
The thing growled as it stared back at me, but never made a move.
I steadied my breathing and took my stance.
"Well, Mister Rabbit,” I said quietly, “I’m sorry.”
Then charged towards the horned hellspawn rabbit.
The wooden spear wasn’t sharp, so a clean stab was out of the question. My only strategy left was to aim it at the creature's neck to make up for the poor materials.

I forced myself onwards, opting for speed since I lacked force.
If I couldn’t make it clean, I could at least make it as fast and painless as possible.
The creature reacted instantly, springing to avoid my thrust, but I’d expected that. Mid-charge, I adjusted my grip and lifted the spear to match the height it jumped at.
The wooden head slammed into its throat.
It didn’t pierce.
It caught.

I wasn’t willing to gamble on a fair fight and risk to get bitten by the thing. Whatever a curse is, I won't let it get to me! Especially not in an unknown forest.
So I kept running with a monster dangling on my spear.
Each step faster than the last.

The rabbit writhed, drool and blood alike splattered around. It snapped its fanged mouth, lunging towards me, trying to bite—then changed strategy, jerking to escape—then returned to its bite attack.

There seemed to be some kind of math behind the XP progression. If I were right, then I'd be looking at 32XP for Level 7, and a ridiculous 256 for Level 10!
Oh, and that ridiculous amount is just the easy part. Because after that? Only hell awaited.
