XVIII: CONFORM

“DEXIUS! DEXIUS… HELP!!!” Princess Ashanna cried out as her protector awoke from his much needed slumber.

Having slept on a cot outside on the back deck to the Castron’s Cabin, Dexius slowly started to open his eyes.

Princess Ashanna then cried out Dexius’s name again… IMMEDIATELY triggering the Blue Guardian to rise from the cot and go see what was going on

“Ashanna?” Dexius breathed out in confused-concern as she called out his name for a fourth time.

In a split-milli-cycle, Dexius picked up his Pulsar Auto-Rifle with his left hand (which was standard ED-17B Heavy Pulsar Auto-Rifle, manufactured by PulsCorp Enterprises) from resting against the side of the cot and took off in a full-on SPRINT to where the Lady-Princess’s cries for help were beckoning from.

“MY PRINCESS!!! WHAT IS IT?! ART THOU HURT?!” Dexius asked manically after BURSTING THROUGH the front screen door to Lord Lakarias’s Log Cabin with his Auto-Rifle at the ready to fire.

“Thuh-That,” Princess Ashanna stuttered fearfully as she then pointed out her right index finger towards ‘the thing’ that had filled her with such great fear and froze her stiff as a statue.

Tracking the Lady-Princess’s point, Dexius caught full view of ‘the creature’ and, upon seeing ‘it’, his eyes widened in fear as well.

‘It’... WAS A DEER. A ‘baby’ deer. A ‘Fawn’, specifically speaking.

“WHAT IS THAT THING?!!!” Princess Ashanna cried out in terror as the Fawn nudged its nose upon the mildew laden grass whilst nibbling on a few blades.

“I… I do not know, Princess,” Dexius replied as he quickly raised his Auto-Rifle back upward and steadied its aiming sights on the Fawn’s furry forehead. “STAND BEHIND ME INCASE IT ATTACKS YOU! Return to Lord Lakarias’s Dwelling, Ashanna! I shall ‘do away’ with this… This BEAST!”

Nodding to the battle-ready warrior, Princess Ashanna started to back away towards the cabin whilst Dexius prepared to fire upon the poor, defenseless Fawn.

  “LIUETENANT, STOP!!!”

Confused, Dexius kept his Auto-Rifle’s aim on the Fawn as he looked back to see that Castron had just called out to him from up on the Cabin’s wooden porch.

“Stand aside, Lord Lakarias! TIS NOT SAFE,” Dexius informed whilst Castron strangely glared at him.

“Lower your weapon! NOW, LORD-GUARDIAN!!!” Castron intensely ordered, striking more confusion within Dexius’s vessel (body).

“MY LORD, this wretched creature attempted to harm the Lady-Princess’s life-cycle!” Dexius stated sternly. “As her protector, I MUST dispose of it! Tis my duty to do so! NOW, STAND ASIDE!!!”

“Dexius, it did not try to ‘harm’ the Princess… And it most certainly is NOT a ‘wretched creature’.”

Stepping down from the porch, Castron hobbled over towards Dexius and walked past his right.

Approaching the Fawn, Castron bent down and reached out with his right hand, causing Dexius to shout, “LORD LAKARIAS, STOP! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!”

Ignoring the Last Guardian Warrior, Castron went to place his hand on the Fawn’s forehead, but it quickly scurried off back into the forest.

Eyes widened, Dexius scolded, “Lord Lakarias… You let it get away!”

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

“IT WAS NOT A THREAT TO THE LADY-PRINCESS’S LIFE-CYCLE, DEXIUS,” Castron stated firmly whilst locking eyes with the Blue Guardian. “It was just a baby deer… A FAWN. One of the most defenseless and HARMLESS life-forms that roams across the Earth’s soil. It simply just wanted to eat some of the grass here, Lieutenant… NOT HARM THE PRINCESS.”

With Dexius’ brow now scrunched, Castron seared, “Put your firearm away! We CANNOT risk any of the locals seeing such ‘advanced technology’.

Nodding in agreement, Dexius slung his ED-17B over his shoulder.

“Grand. Thank you… Now join me back inside the Cabin… BOTH of you,” Castro requested whilst glancing over at a still ‘spooked’ Princess Ashanna. “I have made us all some breakfast.”

“As you wish, Lord Lakarias,” Princess Ashanna nodded whilst Castron nodded back.

As Dexius brood for a few milli-cycles longer, Princess Ashanna pried from the old Scientific Explorer, “Lord Lakarias… There is something that I must ask of you.”

“Yes, Your Majesty?” Castron asked the Princess.

Eyes widened, Princess Ashanna asked in all seriousness, “What is… ‘breakfast’?”

“STARBLAZES!!! THIS IS AMAZING!” Princess Ashanna erupted as she ate away the stack of chocolate chip pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon that Castron had made for her and Dexius.

Inspecting a piece of cut up, maple syrup-soaked pancake that he had stuck a fork into, Dexius asked, “And just what is this called again, Lord Lakarias?”

“Chocolate chip Pancakes doused in Maple Syrup, Lord-Guardian,” Castro replied whilst sitting back in his rocking chair with a mug of freshly brewed coffee in one hand a new copy of ‘The Daily Gate City’ Newspaper in the other.

Still inspecting the same piece of pancake that he had on his fork, Dexius said, “Chocolate chip pancakes??? Maple… SYRUP? Hmm… Interesting.”

Castron smirked at this from behind the top edge of the newspaper as the Last Guardian Warrior continued, “Well, whatever they may be there is one thing for certain... They are truly grand. More than I expected. You have done well with the crafting of this prendekumous meal, Lord Lakarias. Grand thanks.”

“You are welcome, Lieutenant,” Castron smirked before carefully sipping from his cup of coffee.

As Dexius went back to eating the rest of his food, Princess Ashanna asked, “So, my Lord, what are we to do today?”

Folding the newspaper backup and setting it down on the top of the wooden dinner table, Castron replied, “Well, Your Highness, during the ‘night-cycle’ I was figuring that if you two are to truly stay upon this world permanently then you must ‘conform’. Starting with your… clothing.”

“Is there a disturbance with our robes, Lord Lakarias?” Princess Ashanna asked with a scrunched face. “If so then I shall have you know that they are the most prendekumous on ALL of Guardinas!”

“We look… respectable, my Lord,” Dexius said more quaintly.

“Yes, yes. That you both do... ON GUARDINAS,” Castron stated sternly. “But since you are both now on Earth if any of the local humans see you in your rather... ‘questionable’ clothing then they will start to wonder ‘who’ you are as well as ‘where’ you are from. Due to recent and current ‘circumstances’, we simply cannot risk that happening. Do you both understand?”

“Yes. I understand, Castron,” Dexius nodded. “We must ‘blend in’ with Aeshlaran… HUMAN society.”

“Yes. That is correct, Dexius,” Castron replied. “Blend in, you and the Lady-Princess must.”

The Blue Guardian nodded once more whilst Princess Ashanna asked with a mouthful of chewed up pancake, “And how are to do that?”

Giving the Princess a slightly distasteful glance, Castron replied, “Easy. We shall go to the Mall.”

Dexius and Ashanna then looked to each other in confusion as Castron remained sitting back in his chair.

The two young alien refugees then looked back at their Guardinian Elder and asked in unison, “WHO IS ‘THE MALL’???”
