After talking with Dr. Fuji, I told Professor Oak about my plans to explore the abandonded Power Plant. “How long are you planning to be there?” Professor Oak asked. “We should only be there for the day, and we will be back before bedtime” I said looking at the routes we planned to take. “I was actually going to ask if you three would like to tag along?” I asked the trio of Oaks. “We can all go?” Gary asked looking shocked. “Sure thing! In fact, one of Daisy’s target Pokémon can be found on the way there too” I said with a smile. “Grandpa can we please go?!?” Daisy said with a pleading look in her eyes. “All right, we can go. I’m going to bring our recording devices though and my Pokémon team as well” Professor Oak said finally relenting. “Professor Oak, I forgot to mention who is living at the Power Plant” I said with a mischievous smile. “I’m afraid to ask now” Professor said in response. “If we are careful, we should be able to catch a glimpse of the legendary bird named Zapdos” I said still smiling. “I’m going to bring all of my equipment and my full team! We must take as much information about Zapdos as possible!” Professor Oak exclaimed running around the lab grabbing many devices. Gary and Daisy had gone slightly pale and were staring off into space.
After prepping everything to conduct field research, I went outside and got my team ready for bed. “Tomorrow is going to be a busy day team, we are going to be working the Professor’s Team, Jenny’s Mom’s Team, and Jenny’s Pokémon to protect everyone and keep everyone safe. The Power Plant is home to Electric Type Pokémon like Voltorb, Electrode, Pikachu, Raichu, Magnemite, Magneton, Electabuzz, and Zapdos the legendary bird. Rapunzel and Tremor resist Electric Energy attacks and Cha is weak to Electric so we need to make sure Cha isn’t alone without someone to help him. Any questions, comments, or concerns team?” I asked after finishing my spiel. “Licky Licky Licky Lick Lick Lick” Po said to everyone, and everyone roared and cheered in approval. Cha and Taco came back over and sat on me, and tapped on me over and over again. “Cha and Taco will stay close to me so they can observe, got it” I said in confirmation. “So you four are going to be our perimeter guards?” I asked them. “PINS PINS” Mrs. Mandible said as she extended her arms to Rapunzel and Po. “Okay, so you three will be the front and Tremor will be behind us?” I asked. “Tang Tang!” Rapunzel said nodding her head. “Awesome! Sounds like you all know your jobs and are ready to go. Time for bed then everyone, goodnight!” I said giving everyone a hug. Cha and Taco decided to stay with me and wanted to sleep inside.

When we woke up in the morning, we headed outside to feed everyone only to find Gary, Daisy, and Ash already prepping everything. “Good Morning to you all!” I said with a smile. “Good Morning Mr. Austin! We wanted to get started early so we can hit the road as soon as we are done” Daisy greeted back. All four of us worked together to get all the corrals fed and took our daily notes. “Okay, let’s get these entered into the system and we can start packing up” I said to the trio. “Where are you all going today?” Ash asked looking around curiously. “Mr. Austin is taking us to visit an abandonded Power Plant near Rock Tunnel past Cerulean City” Daisy said in response. “Awww I want to come too!” Ash said sounding disappointed. “Well, while we enter the newest measurements why don’t you go ask your Mom if you can come?” I asked Ash. “Yeah! I’ll hurry and run home!” Ash said excitedly.
About an hour later, I was outside the lab with my team getting them ready to ride Tremor. “Good Morning everyone!” Professor Oak said cheerily. Standing next to Professor Oak is a Tauros and an Arcanine who are both saddled and carrying the majority of Professor Oak’s equipment. “Wow Professor Oak! Are these two on your team?” I asked looking them both over. “Yes, this is Bull and Blitz my two fastest Pokémon, and also my trusted equipment and transport Pokémon. They have been on countless field research trips with me and are very experienced” Professor Oak said looking very proud. “Awesome! Nice to meet you Bull and Blitz, I’m Austin and this is my team. Introduce yourselves please!” I said to everyone. All the Pokémon talked to each other and were friendly. Daisy and Gary came out of the lab all geared up and ready to head out as well. Just as we were heading down the hill from the lab, Ash came running over all dressed up in his gear as well. “I’m here I’m here!” Ash called out still running. Professor Oak, Gary, and Daisy were riding on Blitz the Arcanine, and Ash and my team were all riding on Tremor.
After our quick 15 minute ride to Viridian City, we picked up Jenny and her Mom. Jenny’s team joined Ash and me on Tremor which had plenty of room. Jenny’s Mom chose to ride on Fire Fang and was ready to go when we got there. “Okay everyone, we’ll be heading directly to Route 3 where we will stop so Daisy can catch a Jigglypuff and then in Mt. Moon to grab some Moon Stones for Queeny and Daisy’s Pokémon. Finally, we will head straight to the water at the edge of Route 9. Once there, we will ride our Water Pokémon and head down Route 10 to the Power Plant. Any questions?” I yelled out. Everyone agreed with the plan and off we went for Route 3. We got a lot of funny looks as our group zoomed through Viridian Forest and Pewter City, but we never had to stop moving and arrived at Route 3 after about 2 hours. I had snacks and water ready for all the Pokémon who were working and carrying people and packs. All of them were grateful for the break, and settled under a tree except for Tremor who decided to check the hills around Route 3 for new minerals and soils to eat. “Okay Daisy, you are up! Let’s explore the grass and look for any Jigglypuff that would be interested in joining your team” I said with a smile. “Starshine and I are ready!” Daisy said giving us a thumbs up. I followed Daisy with Jenny, Gary, and Ash while Jenny’s Mom and Professor Oak waited with Blitz, Fire Fang, and Bull under the trees. Cha, Rapunzel, Po, and Taco all split up and branched out through the tall grass looking for signs of Pokémon. After about 10 minutes of walking, Cha came back and started chirping and pointing his wings towards the direction Po went. We all followed Cha until we reached a tree grove surrounded by berry bushes and plants. In the middle of the clearing sat Po surrounded by about a dozen Jigglypuff who were bouncing on him and eating berries. “Well, looks like Po managed to win them over before we even got here!” I said with a chuckle.
We all spent some time playing with the Jigglypuff and letting them get comfortable while the rest of my team came back. Daisy and Starshine were trying their best to find one of them that would be their new best friend. When it was time to head back, Daisy and Starshine had finally found their new team member. “Everyone this is Puff and she will be joining my team!” Daisy said introducing her new team member. Everyone clapped, including the Jigglypuff, and we all said our congratulations. Daisy tapped Puff with her Pokéball to officially catch her and add her to the team. “Okay, part one of the journey done! Next is Mt. Moon and the Moon Stones!” I said to our band of Trainers and Adventurers. Ash and Gary both ran up to Daisy and talked with her the whole way back about how cool her Pokémon are and asking how she chose Puff. “How did it go Daisy?” Professor Oak asked when we emerged from the tall grass area. “Go Puff!” Daisy said throwing her Pokéball up in the air. Out popped the puffy pink balloon Pokémon and Puff slowly descended all the way to the ground. She gave a twirl and struck a pose to show off her moves. Professor Oak and Jenny’s Mom clapped and whistled. “What a wonderful new Pokémon friend you made Daisy!” Professor Oak said patting Daisy on the shoulder. Po and Cha went over to the hill where Tremor had disappeared and started calling out for him. After 5 minutes, everyone was ready to go including a very happy and dusty Tremor who was covered in sparkling dirt.
15 minutes later, we arrived at the Pokémon Center that sits right outside the entrance to Mt. Moon’s cave system. Since we all had Pokémon to carry us, we were able to head straight in and move quickly. Jenny’s Mom had called Bolts out and had him riding on Tremor’s head so he could zap any Zubat that came too close. Bolts ended up having his work cut out for him as we must have aggravated at least a hundred Zubat throughout the cave. Finally after another 15 minutes of exploring the caves, we came across an area full of unique minerals and odd formations. “I think we are close to where the Moon Stones should be” I said dismounting Tremor. “Okay, let’s all start looking then!” Professor Oak said. Spitz, Tremor, Fire Fang, Starshine, and Blitz all started smelling and sensing around for unique stones that might be Moon Stones. Everything was going fine until Starshine suddenly started glowing. “Starshine! Are you okay?!?” Daisy exclaimed. “Well it looks like we found some Moon Stones I said. Professor Oak had his camera on his shoulder instantly and powered it up aiming at Starshine. “Here we have live evidence of Clefairy interacting with Moon Stones and evolving” Professor Oak said to the camera. Starshine grew taller and taller and her tail grew and grew until out of the blinding light emerged a shining pink Clefable. “Clefable Clefable!!!” Starshine cried out. She looked down at her foot and picked up a greyish stone that looked different from the others. “Starshine! Are you okay?” Daisy asked as she approached cautiously. The newly evolved Starshine stood tall and focused on Daisy. She gave Daisy a big grin and shot her a peace sign saying “Clef Clef!”
We gathered up a bunch of similar looking stones that must have been Moon Stones. Starshine kept trying to steal them all so I assumed we were right. “Now when Queeny evolves she can become a Nidoqueen right away, and Puff can evolve whenever she is ready as well” I said to our group. Everyone was excited, and Ash and Gary even took some additional potential Moon Stones for their own teams they said. Once everyone was resaddled and ready to go, we headed for the exit towards Cerulean City. It only took 20 minutes with Tremor and Bolts leading the way. As we emerged, it looked to be around Noon and it was a beautiful sight. The sun was shining, the Pidgey and Spearow were flying around, and the air smelled of salt. “Not too different from Pallet Town is it folks?” I asked the rest of the group. The adults laughed and the kids looked confused. We made our way down Route 4 headed for Cerulean where we would stop for lunch and let the Pokémon have a break.

Once in Cerulean City, I took a minute to take in the sights of the new city. Everything was blue and themed around water. You could tell the city took pride in their gym and being close to the ocean. We chose a restaurant near the East side of the city that was known for their seafood according to Jenny’s Mom. Everyone had a hearty lunch of fish, rice, salad, soup, and vegetables. The Pokémon ate a special lunch I had created for them that was packed with additional nutrients and vitamins to help keep them going on our crazy day trip. Everything we ate was fresh and delicious and the kids all had a blast. Once we finished eating, we checked out the Gym and saw some battles going on where the practice fields were. After about 45 minutes of resting, everyone was ready for the final stretch of our journey to the Power Plant.
Tremor got us a lot of attention even as we were leaving the city, but no one stopped us. Unlike the game, we were able to head East directly from the city and entered Route 9 without any incidents. There were a lot of trainers on Route 9 all making their way towards Rock Tunnel, and every single one stopped to stare at our band of travelers. We saw some trainers battling each other too, with one battle being between a Beedrill and a Mankey. Ash kept pointing everything out to me and Jenny as we flew along. Ash and Gary seemed to be having just as much fun as I was. Jenny closed her eyes looking as beautiful as ever letting the breeze blow through her blue hair. What a time to be alive I thought to myself as we neared the water at the end of the Route.
What came next surprised everyone as we prepared to cross the water. “Come on out Rage!” Professor Oak called out, throwing his Pokéball towards the water. Out came a huge scarred Gyrados with shining white fangs and bloodshot eyes. Some of its fins had bites out of them making it look like an old grizzled soldier. “Rage has been with me for over 60 years and was one of the first Pokémon I ever caught” Professor Oak said proudly. Rage raised himself up in the water and let out a loud roar that could probably be heard for miles. He then lowered his head right next to the Professor and closed his eyes. “Yes Rage, you are a very good boy! I know you are excited to go on an adventure. Let’s have some fun on the way to the Power Plant” Professor Oak said giving Rage some face rubs and scratches. Jenny, Jenny’s Mom, Ash and me all boarded on Arm’s back, and all of the Oak family boarded Rage.
We sailed down Route 9 until we crossed over into Route 10 and could see the Pokémon Center in front of the Rock Tunnel entrance. Rock Tunnel looked like a giant pile of rocks with a tunnel cut through it. Nothing but shades of gray, black, and white as far as the eye could see. We started to see Pokémon floating on the surface of the water, “Watch out for Tentacool floating on the surface!” I called out to everyone. Arms and Rage were experts though and we evaded them no problem. On the shore of the water way we could see more water Pokémon like Krabby. Eventually, we started to see less water Pokémon and we started to feel static building up around us in the air. Jenny’s hair started to stand up a little bit, and I could feel my skin starting to tingle a little bit. “Okay gang, I think we are coming up on the Power Plant now so get ready in case there are any Pokémon waiting on the shore” I said as a warning. Luckily, no Pokémon were waiting on the shore as we approached the shore. There in the distance we saw it, a hulking broken down power plant with downed wires, shattered windows, fading paint, and a hole in the roof. The Power Plant was everything I had imagined it to be from the outside, and the Electric Energy in the air put everyone on edge.
Arms and Rage were returned to their Pokéballs to keep them safe from the Electric Pokémon, and all the other Pokémon were let out. My team assumed their pre-discussed positions, and Bolts joined my team in getting ready to form a perimeter. Professor Oak brought back out Blitz and Bull both still loaded with their gear. Jenny brought out Spitz and Queeny, and Daisy brought out Starshine. With all the Pokémon out and ready we started to make our way towards the entrance. Every step closer to the building built up more and more charge in the air, and we all felt the immense power of the Electric Energy building up here. Rapunzel and Bolts were the first to enter together, as the doors had been blown off long ago it seemed. Behind us, Tremor must have felt odd being in a building for the first time in who knows how long if ever. All around us we could hear Voltorb, Electrode, and Magnemite roaming about and communicating with each other. The inside was decimated and the internal structures looked like they were barely holding, and had been abandoned for quite some time.
Once everyone was inside, we started to let Rapunzel and Bolts scout a little bit while everyone else stayed close together in a group. Nothing too exciting happened until a group of Pikachu approached Bolts and started talking to him. They started rubbing cheeks together with Bolts and showing signs of friendly socialization. Professor Oak was filming everything using the gear from Bull’s saddle. “Very interesting, here you can see wild Pokémon recognizing one of their own species and wanting to communicate and socialize. Furthermore, this Raichu happens to be from Viridian Forest and has never been to the Power Plant before. These Pikachu don’t seem to care, and instead are treating Raichu with respect and friendliness” Professor Oak said quietly to the camera as he zoomed in on the group. “I hope I can get a Pikachu someday!” Ash said nodding his head. (Oh kid, you have no idea) I thought to myself.
After talking with the Pikachu for several minutes, Bolts turned around and pointed towards the back right side of the Power Plant. The Pikachu group and Bolts were walking in front with Rapunzel slowly following behind as we headed to where the Pikachu were taking us. An angry looking Voltorb rolled up in front of the group, but after some angry noises from Bolt it rolled away quickly. “Here we can see Raichu establishing itself as one of the strongest Pokémon in the area using displays of power and communication. Even Pokémon from other species recognize Raichu’s power” Professor Oak said to his camera. Everyone else was walking quietly trying not to attract attention to the group. After about 5 minutes of walking across the Power Plant floor, we ended up in the offices area. As we got closer, we started to hear sounds of fighting and electricity being discharged. From my given knowledge, Electabuzz was known as a competitive and aggressive Pokémon that can be territorial about sources of electricity.
Sure enough, as we got closer to the battling sounds we found an Electabuzz battling a Magneton. The Electabuzz was holding some wires that were hanging from the ceiling and the Magneton was trying to take the wires. “It looks like Electabuzz is defending its power source from Magneton” I said to Professor Oak. Electabuzz was spinning his arms around and around until he started to glow blue. “Electa BUZZ” it shouted and unleashed a huge bolt of blue lightning at the Magneton. The Magneton took it head on and went flying across the room and smashed through a wall. “I think it super charged a Thunderbolt attack” Professor Oak said to me. “It swings its arms like that because it is still young. When it is in its first form as Elekid, that is how they charge up power, but now as Electabuzz is doesn’t do anything” I whispered back to the Professor. At hearing that, Professor Oak let out a laugh and turned towards the camera and repeated what I had said. “Austin, I think that’s the Electabuzz I want to try and add to my team” Jenny said tapping me on the shoulder. “All right, let’s have Bolt and Tremor get ready to help secure the area and then you can talk to Electabuzz” I said giving her a thumbs up. Bolts and his group of Pikachu ran across the room while Electabuzz was facing the other way, and then my Pokémon surrounded the room. Tremor decided he would watch the door to keep everyone else out.
“Hello Electabuzz! My name is Jenny, and these are my Pokémon Spitz and Queeny. Would you like to join my team?” Jenny said standing in front of the young Electabuzz. “BUZZ BUZZ” Electabuzz yelled back holding on to its wires still. “No, we don’t want to take away your power source. We want to buy you your own generator so you don’t have to fight here anymore” Jenny said. “Buzz Buzz?” Electabuzz asked tilting his head. “Growl ruff” “Nid Nido” Spitz and Queeny responded to the young Electabuzz. “Elcta Buzz!” Electabuzz said dropping its wires and walking in front of Spitz. “I think it wants to battle to see how strong your team is” I said to Jenny. “Okay Electabuzz, we’ll show you how strong we are! Go Spitz” Jenny called out. “Spitz use Agility into Flame Wheel!” Jenny called out. “Growl lithe!” Spitz called back as he began to turn into a blur of fur. Electabuzz started shooting Thundershocks at the afterimages of Spitz, but never came close. Right as Spitz finished and was getting ready to use Flame Wheel, the Electabuzz’s hands started to glow blue with electricity. Spitz started to roll with flames as Electabuzz started to charge straight at Spitz with Thunder Punch. Thanks to Spitz’s Agility, he was faster than Electabuzz and managed to get moving and dodge Thunder Punch. “Chip it Spitz!” Jenny called out. Spitz started to angle his Flame Wheel for hit and runs. Electabuzz looked confused with what to do as he took the first hit and tumbled forwards. Before it could reach its feet, Spitz hit it with another Flame Wheel. Electabuzz was sent rolling the other direction. It was starting to look angry as some of its fur had been singed by Spitz’s Flame Wheel. “ELECTABUZZ” it called out and sent a wave of electricity out. “It’s using Shock Wave!” I called out. “Spitz, you can’t dodge this one so try to time the hit with Flame Wheel!” Jenny called out. In a flash of blue electricity and red flames, Spitz collided with Electabuzz right as Shock Wave connected with Spitz.
A huge dust cloud had bloomed where the two attacks had made contact. None of us could see what happened, but Jenny was smiling at having such an exciting battle. When the dust started to clear, we could see Spitz standing over Electabuzz. “Spitz you did it! Great job buddy!” Jenny said as she ran to Spitz. “Are you okay boy?” Jenny asked as she checked Spitz all over looking for injuries. “Growl Ruff” Spitz said wagging his tail. “Looks like Shock Wave barely did anything to him” Jenny’s Mom said as she patted Jenny on the back. “Congratulations! Looks like Electabuzz will be joining your team!” I said giving Jenny a side hug. “Here it goes!” Jenny said while tapping Electabuzz with her Pokéball. A flash of blinding light and the Pokéball turned red and started to shake back and forth. One shake, two shakes, three shakes, and finally with a loud plunk Electabuzz was caught. “I caught Electabuzz!!!” Jenny said holding the Pokéball up in the air while striking a pose.
