Chapter 137: The King and The Demigod

  Saki

“So.. What is happening?” I asked as casually as I could. She looked up at me, surprised I was there again.

“Oh, well that Neko girl and Drake destroyed a major part of the arena and then they both passed out. Then some little girl rushed over and.. Did.. something? To her. Then the neko girl got up and left the arena like she hadn’t taken any damage. She must heal fast! Your eyes just turned purple?”

In shock, I quickly closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I can’t believe this is happening right now. What was Anna thinking?!

Turning I rushed to leave, but was stopped as someone entered the Inn. For a large city, Trissaile had like four inns and they were all mostly empty. I had a feeling guards were turning people away at the gates due to the plague.

The man that entered wore a bowler hat and was rather pale. I recognized him instantly and my eyes went wide. “Ah, lass, you work here? It seem’s there be an issue with me wife. They say she caught something, but I told em it’s just me natural charm.”

I stared at him for a moment before asking “What?” My tail curled around me and I felt a chill down my spine. This man gave off terrifying vibes. He seemed calm, almost cheery. But his presence was like I was trying to stare into the abyss.

“Sorry lass, I didn’t mean to confuse ya. Me names Rodrick, I am here for the coronation of the princess? I need a place to stay for the next week.” He took off his bowler hat showing a wave of red hair that looked like my siblings fur coats when I was a child and I gaped. Now was not a good time.

I pulled up an illusion.. And it failed. I paused in shock as my illusion just.. Didn’t happen. I tried again and my illusion simply didn’t appear. I stared at him in abject horror and he tilted his head. “Do ya not work here or?”

I turned, and ran back up the stairs to Lyran. I made it halfway up the stairs when I ran into him and stumbled back down the stairs. I sat up and rubbed my head as Lyran, who had fallen down the stairs with me, looked at his still healing arm and winced.

“Are you okay? You ran away rather quick-like. I don’t mean to scare ya. It’s me good looks isn’t it?” He said in a frankly far too charming voice. I was like ninety-nine percent sure he had to be using a charm skill of some kind. I grabbed Lyran and pushed him in front of me.

“Um, no!” I said quickly, making a point not to look at the man. His aura was overwhelming and I needed a shield. It seems Lyran didn’t notice it. Then I paused and realised what I was doing. I was a royal advisor, running from the king of another country like a toddler!

I forced myself to my feet and pulled Lyran behind me right as he was about to shake King Rojier’s hand. I took it instead and forced my heartbeat down. I didn’t need my illusions, I had this.

“Ah, you ain’t runnin no more. So.. about that room?” He asked curiously. I swallowed and stood tall. King Rojier had a personality and a type of people he preferred to work with. I needed to at least pretend I could pull it off.

I smiled at him sardonically and pointed to the lady at the front desk who had watched the entire scene unfold and was looking at me like I was mental. “You know the lady who handles check in’s is there. Which means you just did this to tease me!” I snapped with bravado I did not feel.

I felt my heart pounding, but King Rodrick’s smile widened and he patted me on the shoulder. “Aye lass, Couldn’t help meself.. Rare to see someone so in tune with Aura’s though.” He smirked and then quickly pulled up a barrier. Within seconds, a high heel seemed to almost pierce the barrier and hit him in the head. “Youch!” He started in irritation. “What was that for!” He cried out.

A Nekojin girl with dark black hair and dark black eyes stepped from the doorway, missing a shoe. She raised an eyebrow and said “You know what that was for. Now get over here.” Her glare put mine to shame and even I almost apologised for causing a scene.

I turned back to Lyran who was looking at me sheepishly. “You okay?” He asked seriously as he looked me in the eyes.

I gave him a quick nod before saying out loud. “We need to go find our friend.” I made sure to say it to Lyran and not use Tama’s name. I turned back to see a third Nekojin had entered the picture. She held some kind of warhammer like she was holding a doll and she stared at the king intently.

I decided that was enough insanity for today and I had to go find Tama. I grabbed Lyran’s untouched arm and dragged him out of the building. Only once I was down the street did I take my first breath.

Which is when my second problem entered the room swinging. I didn’t know where Anna took Tama. That caused me to pause for only a moment before I quickly pulled Lyran into an alleyway. He seemed very confused but didn’t resist. “You know Saki, we could have just stayed in bed if we..” He started and I actually blushed.

“It’s.. no its..” After a moment I shook my head and opened the map. I found Anna and Tama in the royal palace. It seems Anna had taken her back there. I closed the map and said “We have to go get Tama because of an incident.

Lyran instantly looked serious. “What happened? Can I help?” He leaned in and tried to grab something out of his back. But his arm wasn't healed. So he tried using his left arm and I watched in amusement for a few seconds as he tried to go through his bag with his off hand. “If I can just get access to my..” He trailed off. I just took his arm and he paused to look at me.

I leaned in and kissed him on the cheek. “Don’t worry sweetie, I know where we are going. Come on.”

We obviously had to reach Tama. But as angry as I was at Anna. What she had done had made sense. Whatever mess Tama had caused, Anna was trying to fix it. That meant there was only one place the water spirit would take her.

That meant we had time. So, instead of going straight to the castle, we took a detour and found an Earth church. As I walked inside, there were two people arguing. A tall lanky man that looked kind of like Lyran, and a short Nekojin with blonde hair and blue eyes.

“For the last time Tina! I didn’t think the golem’s would respond in that matter to resonation frequencies. How would one even check for those?” Even as he said that. The man talking to, who I assumed the Nekojin was, Tina? He took on a ponderous glance and suddenly created paper and a pen out of thin air!

Tina, the obvious priestess, as she was wearing the robes. Sighed and shook her head. “All I am saying is that you should be careful! You hold great power and causing such destruction, even if not directly, is really bad!”

I looked between the two, genuinely at a loss for words. Golems? Resonation frequencies? I turned to Lyran who looked deep in thought. “Actually, scanning for resonating frequencies isn’t very hard. I believe if you have a built-in power source, the capacitor should definitely hold more than enough excess energy to run it purely on battery.”

The man and Tina both turned to look at us. The man’s frown deepened, but after a moment shook his head. “No, the frequency emitter and receiver would need to be able to travel great distances. This isn’t short range travel.”

Lyran nodded sagely “Ah, that is a more complex problem, might I ask what the end goal for this device is?” Lyran had leaned in, his arm completely forgotten.

The priestess seemed to take notice of Lyran’s arm however and she quickly rushed over. “Oh no! What happened?!” She asked in alarm as she began to re-attach Lyran’s arm.

“Honestly, I am not sure, definitely a communicative frequency problem like I said.” The man answered her. She wasn’t even talking to him and I instantly knew him and Lyran were the same type of person. After a moment he seemed to notice the arm and asked “What happened?”

“Who are you?” I asked instead, my patience thinning by the moment. I didn’t know why, but this guy irritated me. It bugged me so bad, I did something I normally avoided, I opened his full status.

I blinked a few times to make sure I was reading that right.. He had an intelligence of over 400?! And that Wisdom?! At level 40?!
