The Servant of The Conquest. (IV)

  The rain withers.

  Only my soul sees.

  “Raise the life of many.”

  It’s grey.

  The sky.

  Sad?

  Sad?

  Sad?

  Sad?

  “I too am a living.”

  “Fire!”

A cacophony of lead enters everyone.

  “Haha.”

  What is the fire.

  “Hahahahahahahehahehaheha.”

  “Second line fire!”

  “Hahaha…” I can’t. “WE’RE ALL FOOLS! AHAHAHAHAHAHA!”

  Run to it.

  Be blinded by your glory!

  Savor it!

  SAVOR IT.

  RELISH IN POWER!!

  All of it.

  “THAT’S WHAT’S ENTERTAINING!!!!!”

  I feel it lightly.

Not the rain on my arms.

  Not the callous nature.

  In my heart.

  I am correct.

  Righteous.

  I am the world.

Beneath me on this wall are fools with complacency.

Mere rabble with the intention of an easy victory.

  Unfortunate.

  So very unfortunate.

  Where I stand.

  Only a smile is spread.

For This Servant will not permit.

  “I’ll see to it.”

  How merciful.

The bite will be much more than a single one.

My smile is what will be left.

  Hello!

It’s been a few days since last time!

  And today's the day!

  W a r !

On the outskirts I can even see their camp.

The horizon has never been so green.

  “Alright. So.”

  “Defense is our only way.”

  Yeah I figured.

We actually got the ten thousand fleet regiment!

  Barely over ten thousand men.

  Are they all trained?

  …Uh….

  Nevermind that!

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

  Our job is to defend.

  I mean I won’t.

What do you take me for?

Some kinda I’ll do it myself guy?

  “Massive…!”

  “So it is.”

  Uneasy faces spread among leadership.

  Skepticism high.

  “Hold this wall men!”

It wouldn’t be better on the soldiers.

  Praying.

  Despair stricken.

  Fear.

  Ah.

Then it is time for Judgement.

  “None shall take it.”

  I loaded in the bullet.

  “I’ll see to it.”

  As far as this goes.

  — —

It goes without saying but the Barlindos kingdom is finished.

  Beyond finished.

  Non-existent.

A day after the message of their refusal, many took it as foolish.

  Was pride worth that much?

Nonetheless with the Barlindos kingdom standing tall, the military had to get to work.

  Predictably, it was a breeze.

A good live combat training for their army.

Glory and honor as easy as stepping on grass.

Despite barely any fighting, even any was practically one sided.

On the day they marched out, it was full of laughter and ease.

After crossing into the kingdom they were already within a day's march of the capital.

  A testament to it’s size.

On the outskirts the skies greyed.

“The weather doesn’t seem to be too great, Cap.”

  ‘Cap’ looked up.

  Merely sighing as his answer.

“How long do you think it’ll take to take the city?”

  “Two hours.”

  The friend exhaled.

  “Why?”

  “Don’t need to explain myself.”

‘Cap’ sat down and drank from the wineskin.

  “Aah… that’s good.”

A bright languid smile appeared on his face.

  “All of you! Get ready!”

“I just sat down…” ‘Cap’ got up.

  “Get into formation!”

  “Sigh… Able.”

  “Here’s your spear.”

  “Thanks.”

  They walked among others.

Into what would be rows of metal.

“Warriors of Igrend! Heed the call to crush her enemies! Rush onward to glory!”

The man on the horse raised his sword.

  “Charge!”

Under the fire of archers and mages they threw everything to prevent them retaliating.

Even if the force was small, safety was better than none.

The walls were now within stride.

  Nothing.

  –Crrrrack!

  “Soldiers! Bring–”

  The horse kept running.

  The man's arms went slack.

  “What…?”

The noise fizzled out as if it didn’t exist.

  Time started to slow.

Suddenly the man's wobbling body fell. The sword loosely touching the gauntlet.

  The man's face was punctured.

No face from earlier could be found.

Chunks of flesh barely held on the remaining head.

  Visceral fluid leaked out.

A pinkish kind of flesh could be seen.

The man's lower jaw was pristine. The tongue torn as if something hit the roof of the mouth. Unscathed was a single blue eye. Touched by the dark red blood and brain fluid.

  “W-What is this?”

  “Fire!”

Men in front of ‘Cap’ fell as if they were puppets without strings.

Droplets of water fell from the sKy.

Only a few meters and their rush slowed.

  “Second line fire!”

Even moRe met the ground. Delayed screams of pain shot into the air.

The tiny droplets became light rain.

  Slowly being heavier and heavier.

The mInds of those behind had a creeping fear.

  “Keep going men!”

Another officer on horseback ran alongside the slowing tide.

“Some may fall, are you going to run in sh–!”

The same ear piercing Shriek like before.

  ‘Cap’ saw it.

The officer gutted in the side. Pushed by an invisible man. But on the wall. A man loosely holding a long pole with a sharp end.

The rain fervently drenched the field.

  “Third line fire!”

No longer was it the unknown.

  “Sorcery!”

  “B-Black magic!”

More men cut down in a single spear throw unseen.

The man with the long pole was laughing.

Under the rain, they held their arms wide. Purely looking at the grey shadow above.

They placed their leg on the Parapet.

The pole barely held in their right hand.

Too far to see but their clothing was–

  “First line fire!”

  “Second line–!”

Shouts with so many running away. Order broken.

  ‘Cap’ found Able.

Like the man who led the charge, Able was missing it.

  His head.

‘Cap’ could see a colour like the sky surrounding the laughing man.

  “That’s what’s Entertaining!!!!!”

  Grey.
