05 The Cat’s Outta The Bag, Cook-Off!
The doorbell chimes, a guy with a mullet, shaved sides, black leather jacket with chains and spikes on it, enters the cafe. Anyone could tell that he looks really sketchy, he looks around the cafe with a smug look. He picked up the menu and saw the ‘Muscle mondays’ section.
“Haah! Muscle Mondays? What the hell is even that? I’ll get this service”
Why am I getting picked to serve this guy, and it’s my first customer for this service. I had no choice but to approach him, Kira’s ears perked up (how is she even doing that?!) She looked on guard at all times after his presence in the cafe.
“A guy? I thought a muscular maid will feed me or something”
“I am muscular and a maidservant. You got what you wanted, master.”
“I don’t like your tone pipsqueak, im gonna break you into pieces”
He stood up, towering over me pulling his hands back to throw a punch. The whole cafe once again, filled with unnatural heat. But this time, it’s way hotter, heat waves across the dining area, the plastics are getting softer. (AAHH, why is the floor so damn hot! I can’t stand!)
“OI!!, I CAN’T ALLOW YOU TO TALK LIKE THAT TO MY STAFFS! GET OUT THIS INSTANT!!”
The manager shouted at the Black jacketed guy
“Oh, so you’re the manager my baby told about”
The staff member who the manager chased out earlier was standing outside the cafe peeking from the window.
It seems he is that one’s boyfriend. Isn’t she such a baby? Complaining about these things to her boyfriend, and he actually comes to create problems because of her! Should I praise their love? Or should I think how pathetic it is. You reap what you sow, woman!!. But that’s not the point now, I'm in the middle of getting punched or giving a punch.
“Well aren’t you a babe, i’d love to have a taste of matured chicks like you”
“Shut your mouth before i beat the hell out of you, you piece of shit”
Those words came out of my mouth before I knew it. He was about to swing his fist to my face. The place is getting hotter and hotter, my skin is starting to burn, loud thuds coming behind the toilet. The toilet’s door is beginning to smoke. Is there a fire accident inside it?!
“GO AWAY BEFORE I CALL THE POLICE!”
The boyfriend hesitated after the manager mentioned the police, he turned back walk went to the exit
“YOU TWO ARE GOING TO GET IT FROM ME YOU HEAR?!”
He yelled and exited from the cafe, drove away on his motorbike with the staff behind hugging him tightly. The pressure calmed down, and the temperature came back to normal again. The customers and staff members still did not recover from the shock.
The manager and I went to the toilet to see what actually happened. The toilet bowl’s all melted, broken tiles with extreme burn and claw marks, the sprinkler is spraying all over the toilet. It’s a total mess.
“Wh-what happened here?”
We spoke at the same time, we went to check the security camera footage. It’s moving too fast! It’s hard to identify what object is, it looks like a person but does not have human-like features, and it’s too blurry no matter how clear she makes it!!
“We should continue our job Toshiro-kun, we can’t let the customers wait!”
Kira walks into the security room breathing heavily, searching for me.
“Ooh, what are you two doing alone in here~ sorry if i interrupted you guys hehehe”
“S-stop it Kira-chan!~ i-it’s nothing like that!”
It’s good to see her cute self again. Her eyes returned into her normal round and sparkly again.
“How did I do Toshiro-kun! Was I commanding enough?”
“Can I call your name now?”
“Y-yes Toshiro-kun…it's only us three in here so… It's alright..”
I held both her hands and started to weep
“It’s so good to see you again Akane-san!”
Her face was beet red but did not resist.
“C-can i call you T-Toshi like Kira-chan does?”
Her words was like music to my ears
“Yes you can Akane-san”
Kira grabs my head with one hand
“But ‘Toshi’ is a nickname that i gave him”
“Actually, my parents and friends also call me Toshi”
Kira hits me on the head. Why do I always get beat up for no reason! We returned to doing our jobs as usual, the manager goes back to Manager Mode once again. The woman from before(please refer chapter 4) slammed the cafe’s door and entered. “I’ve come again! my Toshiro!”
“My Toshiro?! Oh- the one from last week”
She has straight milked tea colored hair, long eyelashes, with office attire, not to lie, she actually looks kinda beautiful but older than me. “I want the Muscle Mondays service please!”
“Anything for you, my queen. I remember my master loves cappuccino with less sugar”
I leaned to her ear
“But only for you, I'll add a little love from me”
She blushes and starts adjusting her hair “y-you remembered~ what about the service?”
I winked and went inside the kitchen and did some push-ups real fast to get some pump going on while the barista makes the cappuccino. I placed the cappuccino on her table and poured the cream while flexing my biceps. It’s really hard to pour it in this pose!
“Now, for the service-”
I sat beside her and gently placed her head on my shoulder
“Is it warm my master? pour all your worries on me. Your humble and dearest maidservant is here for you”
She was chatting with me and told me how her worklife is. I'm glad that somehow I could lighten other’s worries this way. She had a huge smile on her face and waved back at me while exiting the cafe. Finally, it’s closing time! But now, there are extra staff members who are helping us with closing. Akane-san seems to be gone, she’s the one who always does this.
I walked around searching for her, she’s not in the kitchen, staff room, dining area nor the office. Kira was still cleaning the dining area. I went outside the cafe and heard bike sounds and laughing coming from the alleyway beside the cafe. Potholes, puddles, rusted pipe smells, water leaking sounds, trash thrown everywhere, rats scratching the road while running. I stood from the corner and looked, it was that ex-staff member’s boyfriend! And his other two friends? I guess?
“TOSHIRO!!!”
I heard a woman screaming, the voice was so familiar to me. Then the scream was muffled, they were surrounding something and struggling. I ran at them and what I saw made my whole body freeze. Akane-san, her clothes ripped and torn, her face all red from crying and struggling. Such a cheerful and innocent woman now looks terrified, her face sunk in the dirty puddle, blood dripping from her head, thrown away like a roadkill, her once pink soft fingers clawing the rough road, her nails are broken and filled with blood… her whole body screaming for help. This made me blackout. Rage and agony blinded my eyes. My throat burns screaming from the bottom of my stomach, tears flowing from my eyes unstoppably.
“It’s the self proclaimed muscle maid! Let’s see what your so-called muscles can do princess!”
My fists clenched so tightly, blood dripping from my palms
“W-what’s happening…why ... .why…why can’t I move…”
Why can't I use my legs…I'm feeling very rageful, her trembling body and hands… I can't tak- BLEUUGHHH- vomit forces it out from my mouth. Their cigarette smell… It's heavy. I can hear them laughing, enjoying everything they’re seeing right now
“Move..MOVE!!”
I kept screaming
“AAAAHHHH I'M GONNA KILL YOU!!”
“KILL, KILL, KILL HNGGGGGHHH AHHHHH!!!!”
“I'M GOING TO RIP YOU OFF INTO PIECES!!!!”
watching her like this is making me paralyse, only my mouth was moving. I want to jump on him so badly, the rage…it’s too overwhelming… She’s crying, desperately screaming for help, I need to help her…Akane…everything went blind, I couldn't see anything, I lunged at them before I knew it. My fist landed a punch on someone’s face.
“NOW YOU’VE DONE IT!”
One of them shouted, Both my hands were held, I could hear something metal hitting the ground, scratching the rough ground. Whip of air enters my ear-

Everything's gone black, I was hit by a metal bat on my head

“T-TOSHIRO!! NOOO!! STOP!!!”
Akane-san’s screams were raw, her voice cracking, crying and devastated…

Their laughter echoed in the alleyway, enjoying themselves. One of them spat on my limp body.
“Ha! This fool is all talk, you ain’t no hero buddy! Oi, let’s not let that bitch’s sexy body go to waste! We should reward ourselves, don'tcha think?”
I could hear them speak, no…they’re going to rape her. I can’t wake up. Why… I'm so useless…so…useless…AAAHHHHH…i promised myself i will protect her…please someone..anyone!!
The sun is on the verge of setting fully, the whole alley falls silent all of a sudden. The environment's shifting into something different. Again, the temperature rises like before, it’s incredibly hot! I can feel my skin sticking on the tar. The air…it’s heavy, suffocating…i- i can’t breath. sound of heels slowly placing it’s steps, the road, it’s burning, im trying to roll away from the heat
“Who is that!”
They’re yelling at the silhouette walking towards us. I slightly opened my eyes, streetlight bulbs are flickering like crazy, the more it comes near the bulb exploded. It’s growling, shrieking, scratching its head and face with both hands feverously. It goes on fours, its eyes dilated into slits. Akane-san screams in pain as the puddle boils. I woke with using every single drop of my strength, I grabbed her and pulled away from the water.
The boyfriend and his friends were too stunned and terrified watching that some kind of devil transforming and ripping its own flesh. I held on to Akane-san tightly and crawled my way further from the occurrence. The pipes bursts and sprays out steam, that devil is secreting some kind of substance, it reeks metal
BOOM!!!
White flame bursting and surrounding that devil, it’s like seeing a dying star about to go supernova, its red eyes locked on them like a predator looking at its prey. Bloodlust reeking all over it. I can’t help but tremble, the death itself standing in front of us.
“RUN!! RUN!!!!”
They held their chest as they screamed for life, it splatters the boiling silver metal-like substance all over the place as it zipped straight to them. One of them swings their metal bat at it, it melts away before it reaches it. The devil’s claw covered with its white-hot substance, its whole body glowing terrifyingly.
Its hand reached out with its scythe-like claws from its own smoke grabbed one of their neck, his skin sizzling and bubbling away, RIIPPPPP it pulled out his trachea. His trachea on its hands getting fried, getting evaporated. Unable to scream in pain, he wriggles like a headless chicken. The devil ripped off his arm, it plunged the sharp broken bone of his arm in his chest. It dug its claw easily into him as the devil’s molten metal was flowing through inside him and tearing him apart.
It sees the other too running away, it shrieks till the sound barrier breaks. But they are behind us, the ones who are clearly in front of us are me and Akane-san. Its red eyeballs rolled towards us.
The more it gets near, the more my skin burns, every part of me is screaming. I covered Akane-san with my body like a shield knowing we’re going to be part of the horror show.
The devil avoided and jumped over us, it attacked his second friend. It grabbed his back and peeled his flesh away, his ribs and spine visible, he writhes in hellish pain, his scream tearing away his own throat. The devil got a hold of his spine pulled out with his head attached, his blood spraying everywhere, the air is covered with the stink of burning flesh and blood mist. Finally, the boyfriend- the devil throws his friend’s head-attached spine at him. He looks at his friend’s brutally burned face, barely recognisable, the spine dangling on his hands.
“NOOO!! D-DON’T COME NEAR ME! AAHHHHHHHH!”
“PLEASE! PLEAASE! LET ME GO!!! I BEG YOU PLEEAASEEE!!!”
His voice was screeching. The devil slowly walked to him, it stopped and standing on two feet in front of him, like the god of death, towering at him, it looked at him as if judgement was unavoidable, it’s red eyeball with black slits piercing directly at him, sucking his soul away just with it’s gaze. He lost his sanity, hope, the will to live. It’s burning in bright white flames bursting through the alleyway, its boiling molten metal secreting floods the ground.
The devil held both his shoulders and leaned down to him face to face. His eyes spread wide as if he could not believe what he’s seeing.
“Y-YOU’RE..”
The devil spoke its first words after its first appearance with rough deep voice
“YOU…NOT…WORTHY..TO LIVE”
The devil ripped his crotch, his guts falling down from the opening, it sticks its hands inside it, filling his body slowly with molten silver like a creampie, his organs vaporizing . His eyes, ears, nose leaks out the metal. It shrieks very loudly, it opens its mouth, its insides getting brighter and brighter, the devil’s hair flaring upwards, its whole being becomes like the sun. It pinned his molten body on the ground and fired an incredibly high temperature and high pressured molten silver burning with white flames directly at him. It creates a hole very deep till it reaches to the crust of the earth.
The whole alley gets pin drop silent except the sizzling sound, the devils stayed still, did not move a muscle.
What did i just witnessed…it’s beyond human understanding… my rage blinded my humanity, i can’t help but think ‘they deserved this’. The other side of me is thankful Akane-san fell unconscious and did not see any of this. fast steps coming from the mouth of the alleyway, sword unsheathing and the devil screams in pain. Rei-sensei cuts the devil’s back- targeting its spine, but the cut is not too deep. It shrinks back but it’s normal size still seems big.
“What have you done…Kira”
“Kira?!...”
My adrenaline rush finally gives off and i was slowly falling unconscious
“Why do I always have to drag you all home”
Her voice fades off as I completely lose consciousness.

“EVERYONE WAKE UP!!”

“Eh, EH!!!??? T-Toshi-kun?!! We’re together in bed!! I-it’s not what you think!!”

The image of Kira’s transformation keeps flashing in my head. It terrifies me to the core just thinking of it, and here she is sleeping like a sack of potatoes. Ah, Akane-san’s injuries! I cupped her forehead and lifted her bangs to see her wound, I held her arms and looked at the tip of her fingers. I was too relieved to see her doing fine. I brought her head to my chest and hugged her tightly.
Her face, all beet red
“W-WHAT ARE YOU DOING TOSHI-KUN?!!”
She slaps me continuously but surprisingly, it doesn’t hurt at all.
“Im glad”
“You’re doing okay”
“Akane-san!”
“Im sorry for”
I stopped her hands flapping at my face
“Doing this even though you’re married!”
“What! I'm not married yet”
Both Kira and Rei woke from their beauty sleep quickly
“YOU’RE NOT MARRIED!”

I kicked Kira out of the bed

Everyone sitting in the living room, the green tea Akane-san made for us, on the table, letting out gentle steam. Kira stays bowing down on the floor till her forehead hits the ground while the three of us surround her.
“What happened to the bodies?”
I asked Rei-sensei
“I threw them into the hole Kira created, the time it took to hear a thud is about 30seconds”
“Oh god, even I feel sorry for them now. Would you mind giving me your sheath Sensei~”
She took off the sheath from her blade and gave it to me. I smacked Kira’s head with it.
“A LITTLE MORE DEEP AND YOU COULD’VE BROUGHT MAGMA TO THE SURFACE!! DO YOU WANT THE CITY TO GET BURNED TO DEATH!!”
“I’M SORRY!!!”
Kira rolls on the ground in pain.

I placed my hand on her head

Akane-san’s teacup clutches at my words “
“Ha! I should’ve brought some snacks enjoy this drama”
Rei-sensei controls her laugh behind. Kira’s eyes opened wide, she gives a gut punch to me, her face turned red.
“AFTER ALL THIS TIME YOU’VE SPENT UNDER THIS ROOF! OF COURSE IT’S SAFE! IDIOT!!”
Her fists hurt like hell, Rei-sensei wrapped her arm around my neck.
“And now! The curtains will open! I’ll introduce you…”
Kira continues her line
“I'm Kira Nekoyama, and I'm not from here. I'm from the place called The Sacred Land, these things are real”
I guess even spirits and vampires are real at this point, there goes my normal life…why am i not too surprised.
“T-Those ears are real Kira-chan!!!”
“Wait, so the damage happened in the toilet at the cafe..”
Akane-san’s tone changed. She turns into manager mode.
“HOW ARE YOU WILLING TO COMPENSATE FOR THAT KIRA-CHAN!!”

“I was pissed off at that guy when he was trash talking you, so my powers may leaked a teensy bit, i had to hide somewhere~”

“Don’t worry Akane, just tell the owner some guy threw the cigarette bud in the trash can, besides, trash in toilets are filled with tissues isn’t it?”
“That’s actually a smart lie, as expected Rei-sensei!”
Kira stretches her body in a more cat-like way, she wiggles her tail left and right.
“Ahhh… now I can finally rest easy, I don't have to clench my tail muscle to stay still all the time!”
I wish i did not hear that, so many truths getting poured within these few hours, it’s information overload to me! I sent off Akane-san in a taxi, and Rei-sensei went to her room to continue her sleep.

Her eyes narrowed and her ears pointed upwards

Despite her small figure, she climbs on Kira like a mountain and strangles her. Kira tries to get her off, but she’s scaling all over her like a spider on it’s web.
“Alright, alright! I won’t do it!”
We finally managed to pluck the landlord off from her. After that, Kira shows one of her fingers, should i call it paw perhaps? But, never mind that, she creates a white fire on the tip of it
“ you see Toshi, this is my Pyroclasm attribute”
“Aren’t fires supposed to be yellow-orange?”
“Hehehe, those are puny fires. This one, is the hottest you could ever see in your life. Do you know The White Dwarf?”
“The star?”
“Yes! It’s that much hot!”

She pulls her sleeve, a silver-like metallic substance secretes from her whole arms like sweat.
“This! Is my metal affinity powers”
“So you sweat metals? Kinda gross”
“Don’t put it like that!”
It’s true, combined with her pyroclasm, the metal affinity can be a terrifying one. If I said that to her, she'd start talking big. She grows her nails longer and covers it with her metal, y’know what- let’s call it silver- she covers her nails with her silver, shining deadly.
“Is this gross, Toshi?”
“Nope mmhm, definitely not!”

She ends the call, Kira immediately creates a group call which includes Rei-sensei and Akane-san.
“Yooo! Toshi’s parents are dropping by tonight! Come over!”
“Toshi-kun’s parents! I’ll come!~
“Hehehe i wanna ruin his image in front of them, cus it’s fun”

“I COULD HEAR YOU SENSEI!”
The sun settled down, Akane-san arrived first, dressed not too formal but with slight elegance, black dress and rose pink pearl earring, braided sides tied behind her bun. Is she going on a date with my parents or something?!
“Is it too much? Toshi-kun~?”
“Not at all Akane-san, you look captivating. (I can only count on you Akane-san!!”
Kira enters the living room wearing a big white and red T-shirt that has a baby chick breaking out of a mochi illustration in the middle, and shorts.
“Let’s do this Toshi!”
“What are you going to do about your…special assets”
“Don’t worry about it! I got this!”
She shows a smug thumbs up, Rei-sensei is not here yet…the longer her absence is, the more I'm getting nervous about what she’s going to do. Akane-san cooks little appetisers and snacks, Kira swipes the dust on the floor with her tail. I need to show my parents that I am an independent and responsible man!
the doorbell rings, maybe Rei-sensei is finally here. I opened the door, Mom! Dad!
“Toshi!!”
Mom jumps, hugging me and rubs her cheek on mine, meanwhile dad- he’s chill, he waves from the back with a smile. I hugged them both tightly
“aaahhh it’s been so long!!! Mom! Dad! Come in! Come in!” (it’s only been one and a half month)
Kira stands tall and spreads her arms wide, while Akane-san bows politely
“Welcome Kaname-san!”
Mom and dad look up at her Towering form like watching a skyscraper from below. Mom pokes my hips with her elbow
“oooh , you never told me you’re living with two beautiful girls~!”
“I'm proud of you son!”
My father whispers to me.
“It’s not like that!”
“ These are my friends, Kira and Akane-san. She’s my roommate and she’s my manager”
Kira leans down shaking both of my parents hands without controlling her herculean strength. I stepped on her tail to remind her to have more control.
“Oh, such a strong woman!”
My father gets impressed by Kira’s strength. He's one of the reasons I was into working out, he’s the one who trained me when I was a kid. My mom was more drawn to Akane-san because of her polite and feminine demeanour. They settled down on the sofa. They scanned Kira with their eyes head to toe.
“Thank you for being friends with little Toshiro~Is my boy treating you all alright?”
“Ah he’s a gem! He treats everyone with respect and kindness”
Akane-san replies
“Hehe…yeah..sweet little Toshiro”
She accidentally wiggles her tail in nervousness.
“Kira-chan , did your costume just move?”

How am i gonna survive this! Akane-san quickly takes the teapot and pours them tea, Mom takes a sip-

Suddenly scratching sounds coming for the door followed by a weak knock ‘master…master’ someone with a weak breathy voice calling out. Filled with confusion, I twisted the door knob and saw who it was. I wish I never opened it in the first place.
“Wrong person, don’t worry about it”
"Master!...Don't punish me master!”
She pleads from outside.
“Who is it Toshi? Why is she calling you master? Open the door before i smack you”
My mom does not understand, I was willing to show them but not in this way! I opened the door, Rei-sensei wearing ragged clothes, crawling while entering inside, carrying drinks and snacks in a bag.
“Master! I brought what you asked! P-Please don’t hit me! Even if you have broken my legs, I- i’m willing to serve you master! I-i’ll be a good slave..”
“YOU HAVE A SLAVE TOSHIRO!! HOW COULD YOU, AND YOU BROKE HER LEGS!!!”

Serving while having a slight grin on her face, Akane-san!! You’re getting influenced by these two mischievous women!!
“Ah! It tastes so good! Your husband must be very lucky!”
Akane-san gets flustered, Kira on the other hand, wanted to score some praise from them as well
“You’ve never eaten my cooking before!”
“Heh, is it even edible?”
Rei-sensei teases Kira
“It’s wayyy better than yours!”
“Huh? You wanna go at it cat? Mine is much tastier than yours or Toshi’s!”
Bringing shame to my culinary skills is something I can't allow.
“What! Who was the one devouring my fried rice that day!?”
“Now, now~ fighting in front of Toshi-kun’s parents is not good you know~ my cooking is the one they liked after all!”
“Well aren’t you talking big Akane”
“IT’S SHOWDOWN!!!!”
Kira announces a war cry, my parents are just sitting and watching everything happening in front of them in confusion.
Mom suddenly stands
“ONE WHO SUCCEED WILL WIN OUR HEARTS. NOW, TO YOUR COUNTERS!”
She’s enjoying it a little too much, this is not a competitive cooking show!

Dad joins in sitting with mom on the judges table.
I wanted to make a simple seasoned katsu sandwich, I know what my mom loves, hehehe I'm at a big advantage here. Kira is still digging inside the fridge. Akane-san choosing the ingredients carefully and her face shows she knows what she’s doing, I should watch out for her. Rei-sensei, She’s not here… She kicks the door open with a big tuna on her hands she brought from her home. She ties a white cloth on her forehead, she’s really getting fired up!.
I started mixing the seasonings and bread crumbs in a plate for the crunchy and flavourful layer for the pork. Kira is…mixing something in a bowl… oi don’t hide them! It’s not a writing test! Rei sensei’s cutting the tuna with precision, look at her plucking all the bones like it’s nothing! Akane-san’s using two pans at once! She means business.
Only I know mom is not a heavy eater and dad likes meat, this sandwich will get through both of them! Kira sees Akane-san as a threat to her challenge, she must sabotage her in some way to catch up to her. She sneaks behind her counter and overheats her pan using her white flame. She does not stop there, she goes to Rei-sensei’s counter, we know what kind of person Kira is. Kira saw Rei’s hands were ready to unsheath her sword which was latching on her hips, and Kira backed off. She turned my way and came to me, but since it’s just a sandwich, I finished cooking and spectating her whole cheating efforts. Talk about abuse of powers!
If those efforts were poured in her dish she could’ve at least won a consolation prize. It’s time up! Kira rolls in regret while Akane-san and Rei-sensei hold their dish proudly. It’s tasting time! Everyone placed our dish on the table

“She just threw in a couple pieces of fish on the plate! Ahh! She’ll get too smug after this!”
Kira is suffering a mental meltdown.
“If only you done something than cheating Kira”
I tried to console her, Akane-san heard Kira’s previous scheme that brought her to failure
“Was it your fault my chicken burned Kira-chan~ and you didn’t say anything Toshi-kun even after you saw her doing it~”
Shivers run across our spine, turning back would be a bad decision.
“Ha! Kneel down before me you amateurs!”
Rei-sensei stands tall with hands on her hips. Before we knew it, we forgot about Mom and Dad’s presence and started fighting.
They just stood there and smiled.
“He’s made such good friends, our boy looks so happy with them”
They exchanged their words with each other.
