Episode 25 — Echoes Within the Night
Sometimes the greatest battle is not the one in front of our eyes… but the one inside us.
The metallic corridors of the great ship were already alive with movement when morning began. Agents crossed from one sector to another, holographic panels flickering beside them, yet one figure moved faster than the rest.
Lara walked quickly, pretending to analyze floating reports as she changed directions every few seconds. Each time she noticed Darian approaching from afar, she would turn into another hallway.
From the opposite side of the corridor, Leon watched quietly.
He didn’t call her.
He didn’t move.
He only observed, a distant expression in his eyes.
Something inside him felt restless.
Training Hall
The training chamber was enormous, its reinforced walls covered in scars left by countless battles. The floor bore marks of past impacts, melted metal, and deep cracks from overwhelming force.
Lee tossed a training wrap toward Leon.
“Tie this around your hand.”
Leon obeyed, tightening it around his knuckles.
“Today,” Lee said calmly, “is about control. And about not letting your mind lose before your body.”
They took their stances.
The first exchange began instantly.
Leon attacked first. Flames ignited around his arms, bright orange light illuminating his determined face. He lunged forward, striking fast — but the attacks lacked precision.
Lee sidestepped effortlessly.
A pivot. A single movement.
Leon was on the ground before he realized what happened.
“Distracted,” Lee said. “Again.”
Leon stood up, breathing harder.

The second round was faster. Leon landed three consecutive blows, forcing Lee back a step — but then he hesitated.
For a split second, Lara’s image crossed his mind.
That was enough.
Lee intercepted his arm, redirected his balance, and slammed him into the floor.
Lee frowned.
“What’s happening, Leon?”
Leon avoided his eyes.
“I didn’t sleep well. That’s all.”
Lee stepped back and raised his guard.
“Then prove it. Third round.”
This time Leon moved faster.
Fire merged with wind, spiraling around him into pillars of heat. He leaped, spun in mid-air, and crashed down with a shockwave that vibrated through the chamber.
He retreated, preparing a lightning strike.
Then his eyes shifted.
Through the observation glass…
Lara and Darian were talking.
The energy destabilized instantly.
The lightning burst in his own hand, burning his palm.
Silence filled the hall.
Lee slowly closed his fist.
“That’s enough for today.”
“But we just—”
“Today isn’t a good day.”
Leon lowered his gaze, unable to argue.
Recreation Area
Lara sat on a bench, reviewing a holographic report, trying to focus.
Darian approached with a restrained smile.
“You’ve been avoiding me.”
“I’ve been busy.”
“The wedding won’t postpone itself.”
Before she could respond, Lee appeared.
The atmosphere changed immediately.
“Lara. Did you finish what I asked?”
“Yes. I was about to—” She glanced at Darian. “I have to go.”
Darian exhaled.
“It’s hard enough to talk to my fiancée. When I finally can, you interrupt.”
Lee stopped walking.
Slowly, he turned.
His eyes shifted — golden, with the narrow pupil of a wolf. A red aura expanded around him, distorting the air itself.
“Don’t ever address me like that again.”
The pressure crushed the space around Darian. His breathing faltered. His legs weakened.
When Lee finally walked away, Darian collapsed onto the bench, sweating and gasping for air.
The Night
Leon lay in his bed but couldn’t sleep.
His breathing accelerated.
Dark veins crawled slowly across his arms.
A faint black mist began to escape his body, spreading silently through the corridors.
Across the ship, people stirred in their sleep.
Agents trembled.
Some murmured.
Others woke with sudden fear.
Nightmares overtook them all.
Yellow eyes in darkness.
Claws tearing through a door.
A whisper echoing in their minds:
“I will return…”
A deep, distant growl resonated.
Only glowing eyes remained in the darkness.
The Morning After
The ship woke in unrest.
Everyone spoke about the same dream.
Lee awoke sweating. Lara held her chest, shaken. Even veterans looked uneasy.
Laura approached Lee.
“Director Doria told me you attacked his son. And Lara has been avoiding him.”
“He was disrespectful. If he keeps insisting, I’ll end it.”
Laura’s expression softened with worry.
“Lee… you’re changing. I feel like I’m losing both of you.”
Doria entered the room.
“Lee. Do not repeat what you did.”
“Then tell your son to stay out of my path.”
Second Training
Lee dragged Leon back to training that evening.
They exchanged rapid strikes, the sound of impact echoing across the chamber.
Night fell again.
And once more…
Dark energy leaked from Leon.
This time, however, something else appeared.
A shadowy silhouette stood in the corridor, watching from afar.
Then it vanished.
That night, the ship slept again.
Everyone… except Leon.
His eyes opened slowly.
For a moment—
they reflected the same yellow glow as the creature.
