“I’ve told you over and over, I can’t say anything to you right now.”
After the FBI officers had taken Emily and the reporter down to the base of the mountain, she’d been stuck dealing with them. At least she’d gotten the signal out. Both of them had been taken in just before the plane appeared and dropped the red lights around the mountain. Though it was beautiful to see, it stirred up a lot of panic. All the law enforcement had cleared the immediate area and created a perimeter around Sheep Nose.
Emily was placed in a big van where agents were questioning her, asking how she knew about the ship, but she wasn’t about to answer any questions for now. She watched through the window as the lights of the plane shone and landed at the top of the mountain. Even as the ship itself was out of view, the bright lights were still lighting up the entire area around it.
“Come on, Tess…” She said, watching it intently.
“Why did you go to a news agency about it? Why not law enforcement? Wouldn’t that have been a more appropriate response?”
Emily turned her attention away from the mountain for a moment, scowling.

“That’s exactly what I did! I reached out, and you know what happened? They said I was a ‘nutjob’ and hung up! I tried three different places and nobody would take me seriously! Thankfully, I ended up finding Eilene–lovely woman, by the way–and I told her I had something I wanted to show her. She was understanding and said she’ll take just about anything.”
Her focus went straight back to the mountain, the lights still fully visible. Right now, she was just hoping Tess could get on the ship and go.
“...and you said you came across this ship a few months ago? Why didn’t you report it then?”
“Ugh…listen, I…I’ll tell you whatever you want to know, but I can’t right now. We need to wait until we’re absolutely sure.” She said.
“Sure about what?” The agent asked.
“Sure about…that.” Emily said, pointing out the window.
The plane began to fly over the treetops once more, the lights disappearing from sight as it quickly zoomed overhead. A sonic boom bursted as the ship accelerated away from Sheep Nose. Emily sighed, giving a small, hopeful smile as she relaxed in her seat.
“Okay.” She took another deep breath, looking at the officers only once the ship had completely disappeared from view. “I’ll tell you whatever you want to know.”
