Laiko found himself spinning wildly through the dark before crashing into the wooden floor of a building. Moments before he was standing by his sister’s grave paying his respects.
It was nighttime and the moon was only a sliver, but from what he could make out, the building was some kind of barn except it was empty. He went outside and found himself in tall grass that was taller than he was. Instead of trying to aimlessly wander, he started to climb to the roof of the barn and get a better view.
When he got to the top, he looked out to see an endless sea of the grass to the North, another to the East, and another to the South. To the West was a forest that looked way too dark to traverse at night, so he decided to climb back down into the barn and sleep until morning. Unfortunately, the barn was old and when he went to take a step, the roof fell beneath him, and he fell through.
To his surprise it didn’t hurt him, which seemed odd, but he wasn’t sure why it wouldn’t hurt. Only one thing could make him tougher that quickly and he was still a month away from getting his class. At the thought of the word class, a screen opened before him.

He blinked and rubbed his eyes to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating from exhaustion. When he was done, the status screen was still there. Somehow the System had chosen a class for him. Perhaps it was his only option?
His first two skills were self-explanatory. The first would allow him to instantly understand any language and with some exposure he would be able to speak it fluently. Internal Navigation brought up a map of his local area, the local time and date, and the current planet he was on which currently wasn’t Motholo. His final skill, however, was interesting.

Touch of Time (Legendary): Turn time back or push it forward 5 seconds for any object you touch. Increase the possible time variance by leveling this skill.
This skill didn’t sound that impressive right now, but it could become extremely useful later on. Time skills were extremely rare, and he had never heard of a time class.
Laiko was panicking a bit at the situation he found himself in, however, he was glad that the System didn’t make him pick because he honestly had no idea what kind of class he wanted. In fact, after he learned his sister died, he hadn’t thought of getting his class at all. Now he was on an entirely different planet with a class that he didn’t pick, and somehow it made him feel a little better. After checking through his screens, he fell asleep.
Waking up the next morning, he only had one task and that was to map a little of the forest and hopefully find some signs of life. With the sky clear and the weather perfect, he set off through the tall grass and into the forest.
When he got into the forest, he realized it wasn’t much of a forest. All the trees were dead and decayed. A sense of dread permeated the air and every fiber of his being screamed at him to run. Instead, he told himself he was a class chosen now and it was his duty to press on which he almost instantly regretted.
An echoed growl alerted him towards the approaching bear except when he turned around, he was met with a massive, decaying monster with fungus growing from its eyes. Talons longer than his body slashed out, and he barely got out of the way. His eyes started to water as the stench of the beast caught up to him. One look at the sores riddling the body oozing puss made him want to get sick right there, but instead he took off in a stumbled run.
Gnarled roots impeded his progress as he attempted to backtrack to the safety of the barn. With his map he was able to escape the forest without getting lost, but something was still wrong. Looking down he found a tiny scratch on his arm that smelt like death. Infected blood was bubbling at the surface, and he started to panic.
Running back into the barn he ran smack into a figure in a white cloak. Stories ran through his head of the grim reaper and how he commanded death. Had a tiny cut been enough for a visit from him so soon? That was when the figure pulled the hood back.
“Hey Kid! I was sent to find you and look, I found you!”
“Min…nily? What are you doing here?!”
“Like I said, I came to find you. They were all worried and I got a new class as a reward in the dungeon that revolves around finding people, so here I am!”
“Well, I’m gla…” Then he passed out.
Hours later his eyes shot open. A fire was crackling next to him and there was a pale of water close by.
“You had a nasty infection. Luckily, one of my new skills had a curing ability.”
“Thank you.” His voice was weak.
“No thanks necessary. I would have kind of sucked at my new class if right as I found you, I allowed you to die. Right?”
“Where did you get the water?”
“There was a well with that pale hidden in the long grass out back. I barely found it. We will probably have to wait for your class day to attempt a walk out of here. I’m not sure you could make it as of right now.”
“I have my class. For some reason the System gave me a class early. I didn’t even get to pick.”
“Weird. I’m sorry you didn’t get a choice. Was it at least one you liked?”
“I never knew what kind of class I wanted. This one sounds interesting. It’s a time class. Traveler of Time and Space.”
“Oh interesting! Sounds like you will get to explore a lot. Wait, so did we travel through time?”
“Not that I can tell. We are definitely on a different planet though.”
“I figured that when I saw the ten moons in the sky. We will have to find some kind of society until we can get you a high enough level to get us back. Hopefully that will be an option at some point or else we will need to find some other way home.”
“Well, I suggest we don’t go through the forest. There was this crazy bear thing that was rotting, and one tiny scratch gave me that infection.”
“That’s terrifying. I took a step in there earlier and immediately turned around. My intuition was screaming at me. It sounds like the monster is somehow confined to the woods though. I didn’t see anything following you earlier.”
“Perhaps it’s just waiting for the opportune time to strike.”
“I like more optimism. Look, why don’t you get some more rest. Tomorrow we will start going North and while we walk you can practice your new skills to level up.”
“That sounds like a good plan. I’m glad you’re here.”
Minily smiled at the comment and then walked away to let him rest. She knew it wasn’t going to be a quick trip back, but that was the sacrifice of her class. The lost often took time to find.
Morning came and the daylight felt refreshing. Laiko was feeling as good as he could feel, and he was excited to get moving. The faster they found civilization, the faster he leveled up, and the faster they got home. He couldn’t leave his parents without him and his sister.
Minily led the way as they pushed through the long grass and towards the unknown. An unlikely duo working to get home.
