Chapter 28 - Stupid

Stupid sat in the corner, idly poking a barrel labeled Explosive with her broom.

She sniffled a little and wiped away a big tear.

“Stupid wanted to go with Beeg,” she mumbled.

It felt like her tears were stuck in her throat, and she just couldn’t get them to go away.

“Oh stop whining,” one of the cloaks from Aisle Two hissed as it floated past.

Big meanie, Stupid thought. Why did the cloaks have to be so mean all the time?

They were mean to Beeg, too.

That made Stupid smile a bit - thinking about Beeg. She liked Beeg. He made her heart feel warm and fuzzy. And he was funny!

He tried so hard and kept messing things up - but that was ok! Even when he messed things up, he made Stupid giggle!

Beeg used to be mean sometimes too—but not to hurt her feelings.

Now he was mostly nice. She liked that.

Stupid really, really liked when Beeg patted her head.

It made her feel safe and warm!

Stupid got up and skipped off to Aisle Three. She had to be super careful to protect Beeg.

He was always getting into trouble. She had to save him a lot.

  But she didn’t mind.

Beeg was her friend! He said so!

As she skipped down the aisle, she stopped to peek behind a Philter of Mending.

Stupid just called it pink goo. It was so much easier.

And it made more sense too.

The spider that had tried to eat Beeg glanced out at her in terror.

“You stays there and no hurt Beeg, ok?” She whispered, giving her biggest smile.

The spider nodded and shrunk back.

“And you keep all the bad bugs away - ok? Or Stupid will have to sneeze right at you,” she finished seriously.

She smiled again and got up to continue skipping - she liked skipping - down the aisle, checking behind nooks and crannies.

Yep, she had to keep poor Beeg safes!

  “Oh Mageeeeek~ Store” she sang.

  “Stupid, stop shrieking!” Boss yelled.

Stupid giggled. She wasn’t shrieking, she was singing. She had a very pretty voice.

Mama goblin told her so herself.

Stupid felt her heart squeeze for a second, thinking about Mama Goblin.

“Oh!” She said, jumping up. “That was sadness! Stupid felt sadness!”

She was very proud of herself for knowing what it was, so she sang to the Mageek Store again.

The Old Man Store groaned. Stupid understood - he was old.

  And tired.

But he always woke up to say hi to Stupid.

Stupid liked the Store. He was nice. He made Stupid feel safe too!

“How are you today~” she sang, quieter though - so only Old Man Store could hear.

He groaned softly, his shelves creaking.

Stupid nodded. “Yeth, you right! It lonely without Beeg!”

She reached out and patted the floor. Old Man made a chair appear next to her.

Stupid squealed in delight and clapped her hands.

She loved when he did that! Giggling happily, she hopped onto the chair.

She liked the chair a lot. It was small, just like her!

So she could sit in it and her feet still touched the floor!

It made her feel big and important.

  Like Boss!

She wanted to be like Boss. He was super mean sometimes.

But he was also super nice!

She didn’t want to be mean as much as Boss though. Stupid didn’t like when she saw sadness.

She knew what sadness felt like. She didn’t want to make others feel it too.

So she tried to sing a lot so they could be happy!

Old Man Store knew she liked the chair a whole bunch, so he kept it for whenever they chatted.

“We has to keep Beeg safes,” she said, pulling out a cursed shoe to feed to him.

He happily opened a hole in the floor for her to drop it in.

She giggled when he ate it up.

“He is so clueless, but he eez so nice!” She exclaimed.

She knew he agreed, because he *never* tried to protect anyone.

Except Stupid! He kept Stupid safe all the time!

And now he kept Beeg safe too!

That was because Beeg was really nice.

  And her friend!

Stupid yawned. Sometimes, thinking so much made her so tired!

She happily curled up in her chair for a nap, her ears wrapped around her to keep her warm.

The store creaked quietly around her.
