A Divine Calamity

Mo Fan stepped a few meters away from the examiner’s table, standing on the green grass where the spellcasting would begin.

Director Xiao leaned forward slightly, studying the youth, “Is this your first time attempting a summoning?”

Given Mo Fan’s simple appearance—no magical gear, talismans, or tools—It wasn’t an unreasonable question. Even though the boy was lucky enough to awaken the rare Summon Element at Basic Level, he didn’t look like someone who had any backing.

Most Basic-level Summoners needed external aids just to stabilize their contracts, let alone summon a creature.

Summon Element resources were expensive, and cultivating it without any family backing or financial support was borderline impossible.

Director Xiao couldn’t help but think to himself, _He must’ve scraped by on school-provided resources. It must’ve took him three years just to push his Summon Element to Tier 3… expecting a real summoned creature might be too much. As... And he was such diligent kid in his studies.._

Mo Fan, however, shook his head.

“I’ve already formed a Contract with an Elemental Beast,” he replied calmly.

That caused a ripple of surprise among the professors.

_An Elemental Beast?! Without any auxiliary equipment? And this broke-looking kid actually managed to form a bond?_ Director Xiao’s brows twitched in disbelief.

Elemental beasts were notoriously proud and hard to tame. Even normal magical beasts required specialized tools and resources to form a contract — and this boy, with nothing but his natural ability, managed to contract an elemental?

  Bullshit!

“Well, what are we waiting for?” said Professor Qiu Yuncheng, Head of the Summoning Department, his eyes lighting up with excitement. “Go ahead and summon it!”

Surely no one would dare lie at this stage. Perhaps the boy really did have some incredible stroke of luck.

  ...

On the side, the young master called Luo Song couldn’t stop himself from ughing. He said to the butler Li to the side, “Old Li, this person is quite interesting! He doesn’t have the money to study the Summoning Element but he cims to have an Elemental Beast as his summon beast! If he was to study any other Element, it’d still be better than the Summoning Element!”

Regardless of what, Luo Song was still raised in a big pce, thus, he knew quite a few things.

The Summon Element was the element that burned the most money amongst all Elements. The strength between summoned creatures varied greatly. The weak ones couldn’t even match up with dogs, and the strong ones could even fight against demons. So where did the strong ones come from? One aspect would be his own cultivation, and another is from burning resources!

“He has already started,” Butler Li coughed.

Luo Song no longer said anything. However, he was actually quite confused. Just how poor must a family be if they can’t even purchase a supporting item for the entrance exams. Were those things really that expensive?

  ...

Mo Fan nodded and raised his right palm.

Seven luminous stars fred into view — glowing softly with a moonlit sheen, they danced and spiraled in elegant precision, forming a delicate Star Orbit in an instant.

The entire sequence — from the formation of stars to the orbit — was done in less than a second. Swift. Smooth. Controlled.

  The examiners were stunned.

Not just by the elegance of his casting, but by the speed of it.

Even the best students from the main campus wouldn’t have been able to control their stars with such refined precision and pace.

_How could a high school graduate have such immacute control over his stars?_

_That casting speed… not even students from the Main Campus can achieve that!_

  THRACK!!

The Star Orbit pulsed — and a blinding glow surged from the spell, and a tearing sound echoed through the stadium — a jagged crack split open in the space before Mo Fan, revealing a white, frozen world on the other side.

A realm covered in white snow and icy winds. The chill could be felt even from the other side of the crack.

Professor Li Man adjusted her gsses, eyes narrowing. “A world of frost… Is your summon an Ice-Type Elemental Beast?”

  Mo Fan nodded. “Yes.”

Now that he thought about it… he hadn’t summoned Little Wolfy in quite some time — an entire month, in fact.

Ah crap… the little thing might probably be mad at me.

  he realized with a wince.

It couldn’t be helped, after all, Wolfy was still a 3 years old pup. Because of his extremely Royal Lineage, it’s growth rate was around the same Little Fme Belle’s.

If you kept feeding it Ice Elemental resources it’s growth will speed up, but if you don’t, then its speed is the same as that of a Human’s growth.

  A few seconds passed.

The huge crack in space remained… empty.

  No beast came through.

The professors began exchanging puzzled gnces. Some were frowning now. Others gnced back at Mo Fan.

Mo Fan on the other hand started to panic. _Shit! The little thing is blue-balling me right now!_

He immediately extended his spiritual sense into the Ice Spirit Realm — the world where his summoned beast resided.

There, amidst the snow and cold, y a small, white-fluffy furred pup — his Snow Frost Star Wolf. The little furball was curled up with its back facing the entrance on a bed of ice, sulking with a gloomy aura.

“Wolfy! I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to ignore you!” Mo Fan immediately rushed over, crouching beside the dejected fluffball.

“I know I haven’t summoned you at all tely, but I was genuinely busy! Things got hectic!”

  Awuu...

The little puppy let out a sad whimper, not even lifting its head. It was clearly upset — its tiny heart hurt from being ignored.

Its emotions were clear: You abandoned me again… you don’t love me anymore.

  Mo Fan’s expression softened.

He realized this wasn’t just about one month — it was the trauma from when he was in a coma for six months. This little puppy had spent all that time alone in the cold world, waiting. Hoping.

Mo Fan winced. _Man, my coma really messed with his head…_

“I didn’t mean to neglect you,” Mo Fan whispered. “I swear I’ve missed you too. I just… didn’t get the time. I promise, I’ll summon you everyday from now on. You’re my partner, right?” he softly started coaxing the little thing.

The little white furball didn’t respond.

Mo Fan smiled gently, rubbing his head. “Come on out now… I need you, buddy.”

The wolf’s ears twitched. It’s fluffy tail which was curled, softly started wagging again. It’s glistening eyes peeked up at Mo Fan for a moment.

Then, slowly… it stood reluctantly like a little kid who was still angry but was willing to listen to their parents.

“Atta boy!! That’s my Wolfy!” Mo Fan said ruffling his fur even more!

  ...

  Awuu!”

The little white wolf pup gave a soft cry as it slowly rose to its feet, finally stirred by Mo Fan’s heartfelt apology. With a small shake of its fluffy body, it turned toward the dimensional rift.

With slow, reluctant steps, the smol pup padded toward the rift in space that connected its world to Earth.

Mo Fan’s consciousness returned to the physical world, and he opened his eyes with a subtle, confident smile on his lips.

The professors were puzzled. For a moment, they thought something had gone wrong. But when they saw his expression—and the shift in the rift’s energy—they turned to look at the tear in space.

From the shimmering white crack in space, a pair of soft white paws appeared—followed by a majestic, adorable head.

And then, in its full glory, emerged the Snow Frost Star Wolf—in its infant form, but carrying an aura that caused the atmosphere to still.

  A collective breath was held.

Emerging in full from the crack was a creature so adorable, so unusually majestic, that the examiners found themselves temporarily speechless.

The tiny creature was absurdly cute.

It had a pristine coat of snow-white fur, so soft it looked like clouds spun into silk. Its icy blue eyes gleamed with intelligence and depth far beyond its age, and delicate cyan hieroglyphs shimmered across its petite body like sacred runic tattoos, if someone didn’t have any knowledge they might think that they are runes.

A thick mane of white fur framed its face, almost like a lion’s, making it look even fluffier and regal. Its paw pads were an inviting pink, fluffy and delicate like a plush toy. But what truly stood out was the crystalline crown embedded on its forehead—cyan in color, softly glowing, and pulsating with a chilling, overwhelming force.

With every step it took, a thin sheet of frost spread beneath its paws, freezing the grass in its path. The elemental energy it radiated was enough to make even seasoned mages shiver involuntarily.

The little wolf looked around before locking eyes with Mo Fan, and immediately trotted over, and nuzzled against his leg affectionately. Its dainty paws left a trail of frost behind it, as if the very air bent to its presence.

  Awuu~

Mo Fan bent down and scooped the little wolf into his arms holding it like a treasured child. The pup let out a contented sound, nestling itself comfortably against his chest.

  The examiners were speechless.

To a casual observer, this might’ve looked like a simple, heartwarming scene between a young kid and his adorable pet.

But for the seasoned mages watching—mages who had long transcended the realm of innocence—this was anything but ordinary.

Every single one of them was a High level Super Mage—each with decades of magical experience. They could feel the suppressed power emanating from the small creature.

This wasn’t some average Summoned Beast. This was no low-grade monster. No, this was something else entirely.

The magical aura radiating from the pup was overwhelming, despite its infant form.

Professor Li Man was the first to break the silence. “What an exquisitely rare creature… I’ve never seen anything like it in my entire life.” she murmured, mesmerized by the creature’s beauty.

“I agree,” Professor Wen Yue added, her voice still caught in awe. “This summon… it’s definitely one of a kind.”

“Don’t be fooled by its size,” Professor Zhang Jianguo, more grounded in magical theory, narrowed his eyes as he analyzed the creature and spoke next. “Even as an infant, its elemental force is immense… Even that crown—it’s unmistakably descended from a Wolf Royal Bloodline. If I’m not wrong, this wolf beast pup carries the potential to grow into a Ruler-Css Monster in its Mature Phase.”

The words struck everyone like thunder.

He then turned to the others. “Monsters evolve through five stages: Infant, Youth, Mature, Adult, and Completion. Most creatures pteau at adulthood, but this one—if nourished well—has the potential to reach Completion Phase.”

The Infant Phase was where most creatures started. As they grew and cultivated, they would reach the Youth Phase—equivalent to adolescence. Upon entering the Mature Phase, the true power of their bloodline began to awaken. The Adult Phase meant complete control over their abilities.

And the rarest of all was the Completion Phase, a state where a creature surpassed its natural limits to become a being of supreme might.

Very few ever reached that final phase. It required exceptional health, abundant resources, and most importantly—unimaginable potential.

And judging by what they were seeing... this little pup had it all.

Professor Qiu Yuncheng’s eyes lit up. “I think I know which lineage it belongs to! It’s not just any Ice Wolf—it’s from the Por Wolf King’s bloodline!”

Professor Wen Yue raised a brow. “Wait, I thought it resembled a Por Gcial Wolf...”

“No,” Qiu Yuncheng shook his head, pointing at the creature’s forehead. “Look at the crystal on its forehead... It’s the shape crown! That’s a Royal Crest. It’s the Insignia of the Supreme Ruler Css Bloodline of the North, the Por Wolf King!”

Excited voices overpped as the professors began debating, specuting, and gasping over what they had just witnessed.

Only one of them hadn’t moved.

Director Xiao sat silent and stiff, staring at the pup in Mo Fan’s arms like it was a ticking time bomb.

He didn’t speak. He didn’t blink.

  He simply watched.

Unlike the others enthusiasm, his expression was grave. His gaze had never left the small creature nestled in Mo Fan’s arms. He didn’t share their enthusiasm.

  No—he was unnerved. Deeply so.

The other professors might be high-ranking Super Mages, but Director Xiao was in a league far beyond. His insights pierced deeper than anyone else present.

They’re all wrong…_ Director Xiao thought, adjusting his gsses nervously.

This isn’t a mere descendant of a Royal Bloodline… This creature… it’s a divine camity camoufged in an infant form._

The aura radiating from the crystal crown didn’t belong to any mortal lineage—it was ancient, absolute, and utterly abyssal.

There was something dormant, something sealed deep within the pup that defied logic and common sense.

As if sensing something, the wolf pup turned its head—locking eyes with Director Xiao.

  For a moment, time froze.

Everyone and everything vanished and turned bck.

In that single gnce, Director Xiao felt something primal grip his soul.

He felt a paralyzing chill crawl down his spine. His hot blood turned cold. Those blue eyes—so seemingly innocent—looked into the deepest corners of his being, and what they reflected wasn’t a pet, nor a summon, but a godlike presence. A being so ancient, so terrifying, it defied logic.

  It saw me…

  His breath caught.

The sweat on his back soaked through his robes.

He adjusted his gsses shakily and swallowed hard.

  He gulped. Once. Twice.

  I couldn’t see through it… Even at my level… I couldn’t see anything._

He stared at Mo Fan, still cradling the creature in his arms like a proud owner.

_How in the hell did that young man manage to summon a being like this?_

  He wasn’t just surprised anymore.

  He was afraid.

His thoughts turned dark. _Right now, it’s weak. But in a few years? Not even I might be able to stop it..._

  The idea took root.

Perhaps it would be safer to eliminate it now… while it was still small. Still vulnerable.

Luo Song sat stiffly in his seat, fists clenched, veins bulging on his forehead. His round face flushed red as he watched the professors crowd around Mo Fan, practically drooling over that stupid little white wolf pup cradled in his arms.

He simply could not understand what was going on!

Beside him, Butler Li folded his hands behind his back, his old face twitching slightly with helplessness.

“Xiao Song,” Butler Li leaned down and whispered, “it appears that Dean Qiu Yuncheng from the Summoning Department… he’s taken a liking to that kid.”

“What?!” Luo Song’s voice cracked like a chicken.

He jumped up from his seat, his bulky body wobbling with anger.

“Why the hell would they want him?!” he screeched, attracting the attention of a few nearby students. “All he did was summon a... a stupid furball! It’s just a tiny puppy that can’t even bite properly!”

He stamped his foot with frustration, the ground shaking a little beneath him.

“How dare they even think about taking him instead of me? Me! Luo Song! I’m from the Luo Cn! I’ve been trained by famous mages, have the Earth Element as my main element, and have a rich cultivation background! That damn broke peasant doesn’t even have a magic item to his name!”

He spat on the ground and, before Butler Li could stop him, leapt over the short railing and down onto the stadium field.

“But young master—” Butler Li reached out helplessly, but Luo Song was already gone, a waddling ball of fury.

The old butler could only sigh deeply and shake his head. “Trouble, trouble... when will you ever learn some restraint?”

On the ground, Luo Song, whose round body was shockingly agile, nded with a loud thud. Immediately upon impact, he activated his magic.

“Earth Ripple!” he bellowed, his chubby hands weaving a set of star trails through the air.

  GDDRR!

With a rumble, the once-firm ground turned soft, rippling like waves. The magic carried Luo Song forward on the shifting earth like he was surfing a muddy wave, charging straight at Mo Fan and the examiners who were still gathered around admiring Little Wolfy.

Meanwhile, among the examiners, the competition for Mo Fan had already begun to heat up.

“Director Xiao!” Dean Qiu Yuncheng decred excitedly, stepping forward and puffing his chest out like an eager rooster. “My Summoning Department formally requests to recruit this student! He’s a perfect candidate for our department. His summoning abilities are exceptional for someone of his age!”

Director Xiao Bingsen, who had just been pulled out of his grim, terrifying thoughts about the true nature of Mo Fan’s summoned beast, frowned slightly but said nothing yet.

Dean Zhang Jianguo, standing nearby, narrowed his eyes. A smirk tugged at his lips.

“Director Xiao,” Zhang Jianguo spoke up, his voice smooth like flowing silk, “if I may interject... Considering that his summoned beast seems to be heavily affiliated with the Ice Element, wouldn’t it be far more suitable for him to join my Elemental Magic Department?”

The words hung heavily in the air.

Dean Qiu Yuncheng’s face turned dark. He turned to gre daggers at Zhang Jianguo, his lips curling in an ugly sneer.

_You damn old vulture!_ Qiu Yuncheng cursed in his heart. _Always trying to poach my treasures!_

Zhang Jianguo smiled smugly at him, his expression clearly saying, _Too bad, old man. Did you think I’d let you have the good stuff without a fight?_

The atmosphere grew heavy with tension between the two deans.

Just when Director Xiao was about to raise his hand to mediate, a loud rumbling and the sound of someone rapidly approaching disrupted the moment.

He turned his head just in time to see a plump figure surfing the earthwave, barreling toward them.

  Sigh.

Here comes trouble... Director Xiao thought, pinching the bridge of his nose.

“STOP RIGHT THERE!” Luo Song shouted at the top of his lungs as he crashed into their circle.

Everyone turned in surprise, watching the fatty awkwardly stumble off his moving earthwave and stomp up to the judges, breathing heavily from the exertion.

He pointed an accusatory finger at Mo Fan, who stood holding Little Wolfy in his arms, looking bewildered.

“You can’t pick him!” Luo Song yelled, his voice cracking in indignation. “This is unfair! He just summoned a useless, weak little puppy! What’s so special about that? It’s not even fierce! Look at it! It’s soft and squishy! It’s just... just a stupid stuffed toy with fur!”

He gred at Little Wolfy, who blinked back at him innocently with his big blue eyes.

“And what about me, huh?!” Luo Song continued, jabbing his thumb into his own fat chest. “I’ve trained for years! I’m strong! I have Earth Element Tier 3 Magic! I have connections! Wealth! Influence! What does he have? Huh? Nothing! Just a damn cute feminine face and a poor background!”

The professors looked at each other awkwardly.

“Femi-?!” Mo Fan felt offended by those words! He had the most handsome face in all of Humanity!

He stood silently and calmed down. Little Wolfy tilted his head in confusion at the angry fat man shouting at them.

“I demand a reconsideration!” Luo Song decred, stamping his foot like an angry toddler throwing a tantrum. “You can’t give my spot to some broke brat with a fluffy ice rat!”

Butler Li, standing at the edge of the field, covered his face with his hand in sheer mortification.

Dean Qiu Yuncheng cleared his throat awkwardly. “Student Luo Song, the decision is made based on potential, not wealth or status. Mo Fan’s summoned beast has... exceptional potential.”

“Bullshit!” Luo Song shouted, scandalizing even the hardiest professors. “Potential? What potential? It can’t even attack right now! It’s just a glorified snowball with legs!”

  Awuu!!

At that moment, Little Wolfy let out a growl as if sensing it was being insulted.

A sudden gust of cold swept across the stadium, causing a yer of frost to creep up Luo Song’s boots.

“Ahh!” He yelped and stumbled backward, slipping and nding ft on his ass.

Mo Fan smirked and rubbed Little Wolfy’s soft fur. “Good boy.”

Director Xiao Bingsen watched the dispy with narrowed eyes, wondering just how much of that cold bst was accidental.

Meanwhile, Luo Song scrambled back up, face red with humiliation and rage.

“I’m not accepting this!” he shrieked, pointing at Mo Fan like an enraged chicken. “I challenge him! Right here, right now!”

Gasps echoed from the gathered crowd.

Director Xiao’s gaze grew cold. “This isn’t a dueling ground,” he said sternly. “This is an official examination.”

“I don’t care!” Luo Song screamed. “If you think he’s better than me, prove it! Let’s fight! I’ll crush him and his little snow rat under my Earth Element!”

The professors began murmuring amongst themselves. A few chuckled. Some were genuinely annoyed.

Mo Fan, meanwhile, gnced down at Little Wolfy, who blinked up at him with innocent eyes.

  He shrugged.

“If the judges allow it... I don’t mind,” Mo Fan said nonchantly, as if Luo Song’s tantrum was no more annoying than a buzzing fly.

Dean Zhang Jianguo ughed under his breath. “A practical demonstration might not be a bad idea.”

Dean Qiu Yuncheng, meanwhile, looked furious at Luo Song for causing such a scene but also curious. It would be good to see more of Mo Fan’s capabilities.

Director Xiao sighed heavily again, rubbing his forehead.

“Fine,” Director Xiao said finally, his voice low and filled with warning. “But remember, this is a friendly duel. No injuries allowed. Understood?”

“Yes, Professor!” Luo Song shouted excitedly, thinking he finally had a chance to crush Mo Fan and take back what was rightfully his.

He grinned evilly at Mo Fan.

“I’ll send you and your stupid mutt packing back to the slums where you belong!” he taunted.

Mo Fan only smiled zily, letting Little Wolfy nuzzle his chin.

It was a smile that made Luo Song’s stomach turn.

He had no idea that he was about to be humiliated beyond imagination in front of every single professor at Pearl Institute.
