Chapter 40: Grace Loses Her Temper

Her roommates offered words of comfort one after another, and Cynthia's gloomy mood from the past few days finally cleared up at this moment.

However, someone soon sensed something off.

"Wait a minute, Cynthia. So many main actors were announced, but why wasn't the actress for Daisy mentioned? Daisy is at least the third or fourth female lead, right? The third and fourth male leads were all there. Chloe wouldn't be playing Daisy, would she?"

Hearing this, Cynthia couldn't help but let out a cold laugh, her tone certain: "Impossible. I specifically checked the online rumors. The role of 'Daisy' has only ever been discussed with Linda. It's definitely her!"

"But Linda wasn't at the press conference either!"

Cynthia looked at them and asked, "Then she must have had other work and couldn't make it. Between Linda and Chloe, who wasn't at the venue, who do you think is more likely to play 'Daisy'?"

The roommates looked at each other and said in unison, "That would definitely be Linda."

Cynthia smiled with satisfaction. "Then that settles it."

As long as Chloe wasn't playing an important role, it ultimately didn't matter who she played.

Scarlett had classes today and wasn't in the dorm, so Grace watched the live stream of the press conference alone. Seeing that the two-hour event was almost over without a single appearance from her sister, she directly called Jones.

As soon as the call connected, Jones greeted Grace cheerfully: "Hello, Miss Grace."

"I am not!" Grace's opening line was a direct accusation. "Mr. Jones, I'm asking you, why didn't my sister go on stage at the pre-production press conference today?"

Jones's tone faltered upon hearing this; clearly, he was also unaware of the situation. He then responded with shock, "That's impossible. I've seen the press conference plan, and I remember your sister's name was on the list of the main creative team. How could she not have gone on stage?"

Grace's voice turned slightly cold. "I watched two hours of the live stream. The press conference is almost over. Weren't you, as the producer, present at the venue, Mr. Jones?"

As if sensing Grace's displeasure, Jones hurriedly explained: "It's like this, Miss Grace. I had another important project to discuss today, so I wasn't at the venue in person. But we have a very professional team on-site. In principle, such a low-level mistake shouldn't happen. There might be some misunderstanding."

"Please don't be angry. Give me five minutes to make a call and get to the bottom of this. I'll call you back in five minutes."

After hanging up, Grace took a deep breath to calm her anger, then called her sister instead.

"Sorry, the number you have dialed cannot be reached for the moment."

Grace's delicate brows furrowed. She tried several more times, but still couldn't get through, which made her grow anxious.

Just as she was about to head out to the venue, her sister called back.

"Sis, I left too early, and my phone died. I just borrowed a power bank on the street and saw your missed call notifications."

Chloe's voice sounded fine, but Grace still caught the key point: she borrowed a power bank on the street, meaning she wasn't at the press conference venue anymore.

"Wasn't today the press conference? Didn't you go?" Grace asked.

There was silence on the other end of the line. After a moment, Chloe said, "I went. I just came out. There was a bit of a situation at the venue; I didn't go on stage. Sis, you watched the live stream, right..."

"What on earth happened?" Grace heard the unspoken meaning in her sister's words, and her heart ached.

But Chloe only said, "To be honest, I don't know what happened either. Anyway, I just didn't go on stage."

She truly didn't know what had transpired.

Grace's eyes darkened slightly; she seemed to have guessed that her sister had likely been treated unfairly. Controlling her emotions, she said, "Don't wander around. Go back to school first."

"Okay, sis, I'm fine. Talent Agent Faye said that for a newcomer, exposure too early isn't necessarily a good thing. It would be even better if I could captivate the audience at first sight with my role on screen. I think what she said makes sense," Chloe said, feigning nonchalance.

Hearing this, Grace go with the flow and said, "It's good that you can think this way."

However, even if these words held some truth, the fact remained that her sister had been treated differently. She couldn't just let her sister suffer this injustice without consequence!

After hanging up, Jones's return call came. Answering again, Jones's voice had also turned grave: "Miss Grace, I'm sorry. I've just looked into the situation. There were some issues with the on-site arrangements; it was an oversight by the staff."

Grace responded with a cold laugh. As an investor, she could be polite to Jones at all times. But as Chloe's sister, she wasn't planning to swallow this anger. "Mr. Jones, do you believe your own words? Such an important press conference—how many times are the run-throughs rehearsed in advance? How many times are the details confirmed?"

"And in the end, no one noticed a person missing from the stage, and you tell me it was an oversight by the staff? Is my sister a stray thread or a spare light stand? Is she something that can be overlooked?"

"That's not what I meant, Miss Grace. I'm truly very sorry. Please calm down," Jones urged repeatedly, trying to appease her.

But by now, Grace was furious. The anger burning in her chest was immense—this was the angriest she had been since returning to the age of twenty!

"Mr. Jones, let me tell you this: the only reason I invested in your drama was entirely for my sister. Even if this series of yours flops and I lose every cent of my ten-thousand-dollar investment, I, Grace, wouldn't even blink. But if I spend my money only to have my sister mistreated, then I will absolutely not let this rest!"

"I'll be at the press conference venue within an hour. The press conference may be over, but this matter isn't! You must give me a satisfactory explanation. Otherwise, I'll withdraw the investment on the spot and be done with this!"

Grace finished her tirade in one breath and hung up directly, giving Jones no chance to explain.

She was so angry her heart was pounding. She turned around, changed her clothes, and headed out.

On the way, a belated sense of regret washed over Grace. She should have accompanied her sister to such an event today. She had thought it was a done deal, never expecting such a hiccup to occur.

Truly worthy of the entertainment industry.

About forty minutes later, Grace arrived at the press conference venue. The event had already "concluded successfully." Related reports were already trending on social media, with every actor having one or two hot search terms—a great opportunity for exposure.

Most people at the venue had already left. The stage was mostly dismantled. Grace was about to call Jones when she didn't see him, but he arrived belatedly, jogging over with sweat on his forehead.

"Miss Grace, I'm sorry. I came from the Carlisle District," Jones said apologetically, genuinely nervous inside.

After all, from his previous interactions with Grace, the impression she had given him was one of calmness, composure, and decisiveness. He had never seen her this angry before.

Especially when Grace mentioned withdrawing the investment on the phone earlier, he was so scared he dropped what he was doing and hurried over.

"Mr. Jones, what brings you here?"

Jeff, who was handling the post-event matters, saw Jones and walked over with a look of surprise, then said with a hearty laugh, "You're only coming now that it's all over? Don't worry, Mr. Jones, it went exceptionally well and smoothly!"
