Chapter 72 - New Beginnings
Chapter 72 - New Beginnings
Steam and Hunger
As Seven reclined in the inviting warmth of the steaming pool, he felt the last remnants of his day’s fatigue melt away. The rejuvenating heat enveloped him, soothing the muscles that had endured the rigors of training and sparring. Nearby, Arne floated with abandon, arms outstretched, his infectious grin lighting up the moment.
“Wow, this definitely outshines training any day!” he exclaimed, letting out a blissful sigh. “Hot water and great friends… if only we had a feast to top it off.” His stomach rumbled dramatically, drawing hearty laughter from Hopper.
Seven couldn’t help but smile. “After everything we devoured during drills? You’re really still hungry?”
“Always,” Arne replied with a cheeky grin before he splashed water playfully in Erik’s direction. “And you, Mr. Stoneface? Do you have room for more food?”
Erik, typically reserved, tilted his head slightly, his usually stern expression softening as he admitted, “Honestly, food sounds fantastic. I’m really hungry.”
Arne beamed, clapping his hands in excitement. “Aha! Even the quickest blade in the guild isn’t immune to hunger!”
Seven stretched, feeling the familiar tug of scar tissue where his arm once was. The thought of a hearty meal brought a rush of anticipation to his stomach. “Alright, count me in! Let’s grab some food before Arne decides to start munching on the bathhouse walls.”
This sparked a wave of laughter, even from Erik, as they emerged from the steaming pool, ready for their next adventure.
Among Giants
The chow hall buzzed with energy as they entered, an impressive sea of towering figures filling the spacious room. The rich aromas of roasted meats, fragrant spices, and fresh bread enveloped Seven, making his mouth water in anticipation before they even reached the line.
Among the War Rabbits surrounding him—each one a testament to rigorous training, their ears perked with interest—Seven felt a touch small, more of an observer than a participant. Yet, walking into the hall alongside Erik, Arne, and Hopper brought a newfound sense of comfort; it felt more like joining a spirited community than entering a den of predators.

They settled at a bench midway down one of the long tables, excitement buzzing in the air. Glorious platters moved along the line, brimming with succulent cuts of magical beasts, vibrant greens, and thick loaves glazed with butter and herbs.
Just as Seven got comfortable, Arne leaned in across the table, his eyes sparkling with mischief, ready to share in the camaraderie of this delightful feast.
Arne’s Question
“So, rookie…” Arne leaned in, lowering his voice to a playful whisper just loud enough for half the bench to catch the excitement. “Who’s caught your eye among our charming lady rabbits?”
Seven paused mid-bite, wide-eyed and surprised.
“Come on, don’t play coy with me,” Arne encouraged, his grin broadening. “Every new recruit notices someone special! You mean to tell me you haven’t even thought about it with so many lovely long ears around?”
Caught off guard, Hopper blinked, while Erik stiffened, his ears twitching as he shot a fierce glare at Arne.
Seven cleared his throat, glancing between them, sensing the hall quieting down as anticipation filled the air.
“I… haven’t really noticed anyone,” Seven finally admitted, a hint of sincerity in his voice. “I’m focused on surviving training!”
Arne erupted in laughter, slapping the table. “Oh, that’s fantastic! A classic deflection! You’re good!”
Seven sighed, trying to stay earnest. “Or maybe I just prefer to keep out of your gossip circle.”
“Trust me, just ignore him,” Erik muttered.
Laughter bubbled up around the table, easing Seven’s discomfort, and even Hopper managed a chuckle. It felt like a warm moment of camaraderie, full of good cheer and shared experiences.
Seven seized the opportunity to shift the focus, jabbing his fork into his plate with a grin. “Alright, let’s talk about what really matters—food! That’s why we’re here, right?”
Arne raised his mug in playful defeat. “Okay, okay, you’ve got me this time, rookie. Food it is!”
With that, they dove into their meal with enthusiasm. The chow hall offered a culinary delight—succulent cuts of beast meat, perfectly seared and infused with herbs that danced with a hint of mana, vibrant vegetables developed for frost-drenched farms, and bread so rich it brought back warm memories of a home Seven scarcely remembered.
For a while, the initial awkwardness melted away. Laughter echoed as they debated over the finest cuts, sharing mugs of steaming carrot-ale with contagious joy.
Seven savored each bite, occasionally tuning in to Arne’s cheerful banter. Just months ago, he would have watched giants like these from a distance, feeling like prey in their shadow. Now, here he was, still small and marked by his past—but undeniably among friends and not alone.
The walk back to the barracks seemed to stretch on forever. Seven felt the satisfying ache in his body from sparring, each muscle reminding him of the countless strikes he absorbed today. The halls of the War Rabbit Guild were tranquil at this hour, resonating only with the subtle footsteps of patrolling guards and the gentle creaking of lantern chains.
Upon entering his quarters, he found Fluffy already nestled in her bunk, cocooned in thick blankets, her ears twitching softly with each rhythmic breath. The sight filled him with a warm sense of comfort.
Moving quietly, Seven laid down his gear and slipped into his own bed. The mattress embraced his weary form, and the guild's gentle hum of mana channels vibrated through the walls like a soothing lullaby.
He whispered softly, almost as if sharing a secret, “Goodnight, Fluffy.”
Exhaustion swept over him quickly. As his eyes fluttered closed, his mind replayed the day’s highlights—the duel, the springs, the camaraderie over meals. He realized he had navigated yet another challenge—not through sheer strength, but through resilience and connection. For once, sleep came with a heartwarming sense of accomplishment.
