Chapter 64 – Fluffy vs. Lola (Part 2)

The arena floor was already scarred from a dozen fights—craters, scorch marks, shattered tiles. But when Fluffy and Lola squared off, the air itself seemed to hold its breath.

Fluffy’s blades rang in a storm of slashes, trying to crowd Lola’s reach. But the assistant’s stance never wavered. Calmly, she drove her spear into the ground. Runes flared along its shaft, illuminating her determined expression.

The stone split. Mana surged. Spears of earth erupted upward in jagged spikes, each one glistening with an energy that crackled in the air.

Fluffy’s eyes widened. “Too late!” she shouted, adrenaline coursing through her veins.

She leapt back, but one spike caught her boot, a jolt of pain driving through her foot. She tumbled, rolled hard, and came up panting, grit mingling with determination in her gaze.

“Ow ow ow—okay, that smarts!” she hissed, shaking her leg. But her grin never faded. “Nice trick, Lola. You almost had me.”

Setting her stance anew, her twin swords gleamed, energy bubbling in her chest. “Almost.”

Lola twirled her weapon with an air of quiet confidence. “Rushing headlong into reach is foolish. Adapt or yield, Fluffy.”

“Yield? Ha!” Fluffy lunged again, her blades a blur of motion.

Steel met steel in a storm of sparks. Fluffy’s speed was dazzling—slashes at Lola’s flank, her legs, her back. Each strike was met by the cold precision of the spear shaft, a dance of desperation and skill.

Seven leaned forward, jaw tight. “She’s so fast… but Lola’s not even sweating.”

If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

Raven’s eyes narrowed, her mind racing. “That’s the difference between instinct and mastery.”

At last, Lola found her opening. Her spear darted for Fluffy’s ribs, its tip glinting wickedly. With a last-second twist, Fluffy evaded, boots skidding protectively across the cracked stone.

“Still not enough to pin me!” Fluffy laughed, her tail swishing defiantly as she launched herself into a new attack.

Fluffy’s mana flared, igniting her will like a wildfire.

“Bunnybound Reflex!” Lavender-blue glyphs sprung to life around her wrists and ankles. Her reflexes sharpened, her body moving almost faster than sight. She blurred, zigzagging around the arena.

“Safeguard Bloom!” Golden petals shimmered across her chest, forming a protective sheen that gleamed in the harsh light.

“Sweet Step!” Pink sigils lit beneath her feet, each step bursting her sideways like a comet skipping across water.

The recruits erupted in cheers as she danced between Lola’s thrusts, twin blades a whirlwind of shimmering steel.

“Hop Guard Counter!” she shouted, her sigil pulsing with power, deflecting a sweeping strike and sending a shockwave crashing back at Lola.

The assistant slid a half-step to the side, cloak rippling elegantly, her calm mask never breaking.

Then, in a surprising twist, Lola tossed her spear into the air.

“What—?” Fluffy blinked, her confidence faltering for a split second as she hesitated.

Above, the weapon spun, runes burning bright. It multiplied—one became three, then six, morphing into a storm of phantom spears cascading downward like a deadly rain.

The arena shook with impact. Dust exploded outward, obscuring everything.

Inside the haze, Fluffy’s mana shield flared brilliantly, warding off the worst of the storm. She ducked and weaved through the chaos, pink footprints trailing behind her like fleeting fireflies.

When the dust cleared, determination surged through her as she charged, blades raised high.

  “Gotcha now!”

The recruits roared; unity echoed in their cries as Fluffy closed in, twin blades slicing through the air toward Lola’s chest.

For a heartbeat, it looked like the veteran was wide open—unarmed, defenseless.

Then Lola raised her hand, her voice steady. Mana coalesced instantly, a brand-new spear snapping into existence mid-thrust.

The impact was deafening. Swords and spear collided with a thunderous clash, mana flaring bright enough to blind. The ground beneath them cracked and gave way, fissures spidering out in response to the force.

  Neither yielded.

“Enough!” Ripper’s voice cut through the explosion of noise like a knife. “That’s a draw.”

As the light faded, Fluffy panted heavily, her blades trembling but still in guard. Lola stood tall, spear steady, her expression unreadable yet fierce.

Both fighters lowered their weapons in unison, sharing a moment of respect forged in the heat of their battle.

Lola inclined her head slightly, a rare glimmer of satisfaction in her eyes. “You’ve grown, Fluffy. Five months ago you’d have been skewered.”

Fluffy grinned through her gasps, the thrill of the fight still racing in her veins. “And you fight better than you write reports.”

The crowd erupted in applause, a thunderous roar that filled the arena, echoing long after the final blows had been struck. Even Miss Hopps, silent on her balcony, allowed the faintest curve of a smile, a testament to the bond forged in struggle and triumph.
