Ch 6 - The First Tame

Kat, who was already waiting at entrance of the station, saw the Hiroshi come with some awkward steps, getting accommodated to the uniform.

Unlike her open design, his was much more full body suit in comparison.

"Alright, Yasuda. Today we will be taking patrol in the city's park. Simply put, we will keep guard of possible wild monster activity and if any fosters need help. Also, there has been reported sighting a wild werebeast during the weekend, so we are to get any info we can get about it. understood?" she said sternly, but clearly.

"Didn't expect you call me by my surname." noted Hiroshi, as it has been long time since anyone has done so.

As saying it, he could feel stare with daggers coming from her. "That's because I only give dignity of first name to those worth my time. If you want, I can call you maggot instead." with intention for him to stop asking questions that didn't matter to her.

"F-fine. I won't question it." he stuttered out, letting her take the lead on their patrol out to the park.

The walk was filled with awkward silence for most of the way. The silence didn't stay for the whole way as Hiroshi couldn't help himself, and proceeded to ask some questions.

"You know, I have heard Werebeast to describe mostly humanoid animals, and demibeasts to those who have minor details, like ears and tails." He started off, making Kat wonder where he was going with the line of dialogue.

"But seeing you are neither, and your kind is just called 'harpies'... it just feels weird, you know." he finished his sentence as she took some time to process it, before going for the answer.

"There is classification in between them unofficially. Kobolds in east, kin in west. But most of these species were known to humans even when monsters were majorly in hiding, thanks to them being unable to blend into wilderness or other humans, leaving them to get unique naming in mythology before the classification we know of came to be." she spoke with clear mind.

"Huh," noted Hiroshi, as seems one of the questions at least got eased from his mind, and it was nice to see she had calmed down.

Upon arriving at the park, Hiroshi got to see what was essentially a forested area with walking paths in middle of the city. He didn't get much time to look at his surroundings before Kat turned to him.

"Alright, before we separate for our patrol, I will run you through your gear, which you would have gotten to know if Edith had given you a proper test like everyone else." she said with mild venom in her voice.

Taking the radio off of the belt, she started to explain. "First will be your radio. Usually it would be connected to dispatch to give and receive information, but yours is currently attached to mine. Just hold the button down on the side to speak into it."

As she put it back, she moved tapping the pouch attached onto her belt on left side. "This has gowns, just in case you happen to be dealing with a wild monster that is naked. They are disposable, so don't mind tearing parts off to make it fit better."

Next she took out a set of handcuffs with slightly smaller design than normal to his knowledge. "You have set of cuffs with unique key for them. Use these if the monster is too feisty. They are made out of adamant, so they can withstand much more than your usual cuffs." and as she demonstrates, the design was made so it could be closed with huge range in sizes.

Lastly moving to her right belt side, with a holstered gun. "You currently don't have one as a trainee, but we are given a 9mm pistol with rubber bullets. They are meant for last case situations, even if they aren't lethal. And if you dare even take it out without proper cause, say your ass goodbye for the job." she said with clear threatening tone towards him, as with it, she finished the brief.

Hiroshi made sure he had all as she stated, before nodding in understanding.

Before he could forget, he quickly spoke up before departing. "Oh, I just want to inform. Nata might call me time to time, so please don't be surprised to see me on phone." he spoke apologetically.

Kat gave a stare, leaving him with barely any notion to attain from her look, but after short while, she simply said "Fine, but don't get too stuck up chatting." before starting to walk off.

Leaving Hiroshi stew in his own awkwardness, leaving him questioning how he is able to withstand such hardheaded woman.

Taking stroll around the park, It was hard for him to consider it to be normal. If you'd take photo, you'd have hard time realizing it was from middle of the city than in midst of the woods, if it weren't for the concrete paths, benches and few stalls strewn around the park.

He got some time to enjoy the sights and views of the forest, as there were couple squirrels and birds in the trees and shrubbery.

on the walk, he got to greet and see multiple people going around, be it for jogging, gathering or overall enjoying the Finnish forestry.

His calm time went for a while, before a familiar ring came from his pocket, as he dug his phone out.

"Hiroshi speaking." he said, answering the call.

"H-how is work?" Nata's voice came from other side, mixed with excitement and anxiety.

"Pretty calm honestly, just patrolling the park. I hope you are doing fine." he happily answered.

If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

"Yeah, I am playing some of the games you showed." as she sounded much more excited now.

"That's good to hear, and try not to eat dinner too early." he reminded her.

with a light "Yeah" hear from her, it seems she calmed down enough for now, so with it the call was over. "If only she had someone with her." he muttered to himself, feeling bad leaving her all alone at home.

Continuing on the patrols, as first hour started to go by, he wondered if anything was going to happen today, or would it be really just wandering as there hasn't even been clues on the supposed werebeast.

But as if luck struck on the right moment, Hiroshi could notice a man going around looking into the woods with a worried stare. Knowing there is nothing to lose on asking, he approached the worried stranger.

"Hello, what might be the problem?" Hiroshi asked calmly, getting attention of the man, who was quite jumpy, and seeing him got some cold sweats.

he gave a defeated sigh, as thought through what to say. "Alright, I hate to say this, but me and my wife are brand new fosters, and we got a werecat to foster month ago. When we were having a walk on sunday, we were taking shortcut through the park and something scared her off into the woods, and we have been trying to find her ever since." he stated, with his mood getting apologetic afterwards

"We are sorry, we should have contacted Hamilton immediately, but we feared there would be an punishment for such mistake. Please help us find Sarah." he begged, clearly having lost hope after so much time.

"Just calm down. We will." Hiroshi noted to calm them down. "It would be best if you join with your wife and take a break for now, and let us handle this."

With the man going off to find resting place and his wife. Hiroshi took the radio and turned it on. "Hey, seems the reports were true. Werecat by name of Sarah. Last night the foster family was with her in the park, and something disturbed her to flee into the woods."

As things got silent, shortly Kat spoke from other side "Understood. Let's meet up at the park center for better coordination."

Arriving at the Park's center, which was easy to spot thanks to open sky, with plenty of room with stalls and peculiar large tree in the middle, appearing larger than any other trees in the area. Hiroshi didn't have hard time finding the harpy that was waiting on him nearby.

He gave detailed report what he got and seen in so far. "So, I presume you are talking about Morse family. If i remember right, Sarah is still a teen, so expect her to be extremely wild." she brought up, as she kept eye on her surroundings. "That would explain why I feel like I was being stared at." she muttered to herself

Hiroshi hearing her whisper, he got lightly concerned "Then shouldn't we stick together? Would be bad if you ended up surprise attacked alone." after all, she was partly an bird, so Sarah hunting her wouldn't be out of question.

She quickly turned to stare daggers at Hiroshi, before she seemed to calm down. "Thanks for the offer, but I can handle myself. If she gets the encouragement to bounce on me, it would be easier to catch her that way. We will split, if nothing comes up when clock hits 1 pm, we return here for break." she noted, having thought further ahead than he was considering.

Splitting again, this time taking more time to look in the woods. stepping on the grass and moss across the dirt to look deeper in the woods.

The search went for good while during which Hiroshi was losing his confidence as he kept on searching, he could barely see or hear possible movement of an werecat, however it didn't help that they ended up being just wildlife in the park, and no doubts Kat had more likelihood to attract the cat, bringing his motivation down as well.

During the hunt, one moment he could tell he was near, he saw orange ears peaking out of a bush, but his misfortune struck as suddenly his phone got a call, alerting the werecat, making her sprint off with barely any queue where, and way faster than he could run.

With a one disappointed call with Nata that was eating her meal, he took it as a sign that it was time for an break, so with heavy feet, he lumbered back to the center.

Upon arriving, he could spot an angry harpy sitting by a bench, with a pretty clear scratch mark left on her cheek. Able to guess from what, he didn't pry on it, as he sat next to her.

He wasn't able to take much of a break before she handed him 5 euro bill. "If you don't mind, I'd like mincemeat pie with sausage." as she pointed to grill kiosk not too far away from them.

Pocketing the bill, he went order some food, himself ordering fries with sausages. And before he knew it, he had hands full before coming back to Kat, handing her own meal.

Enjoying the meal under a clear sky with calm forestry near was quite an experience he hasn't experienced yet, but it was much more lovely than he expected. And letting the silence wash over them, it felt nice. Unlike Nata who was constantly on him on whatever she could imagine, Kat relaxing next to him felt nice connection.

Slowly finishing with the meal, he could sense someone staring, and before anyone could react, with a look behind them, he could see piercing yellow eyes staring at them.

Kat was about to take last bite of her food, before getting quickly pulled by her wing as Hiroshi rushed them off the bench before an short orange werecat pounced right over it, having been directly in line to tackle the harpy.

"What are you doing?" she blurted out in anger before herself taking note of the werecat, now stanced up and ready to pounce again with hungry eyes. An orange cat girl, dirty clothes on her, and pretty skinny even for werebeast.

Hiroshi being the goalkeeper between the two, he quickly dug up the bill she handed to him, before handing it back to her. As Kat took note of it, she understood the assignment and rushed to the kiosk.

Harpy taking run, Sarah went for another pounce, which got blocked by Hiroshi, taking the brunt and taking the opportunity to grab her waist to stop her from fleeing.

She started to scratch all around with hisses and angry meows. He tried to avoid them, but he couldn't help but get couple scratches on his face, arms and chest thanks to her nimble limbs and long claws.

Fight lasted for good couple minutes, before she seemed to start to tire out, giving Hiroshi some time to breath, but he kept his guard up.

After about 5 minutes since leaving them behind, Kat came rushing in with plate of plain cooked chicken wings, and started to offering them to Sarah.

Couple feisty hisses and strikes later, she seemed to calm down enough to start eating. Giving him time to finally rest after the wrestling match with plenty more claw marks on him than Kat by now.

As Sarah got her fill in chicken meat, Hiroshi took rest on a nearby bench as he checked the wounds and marks left on him, and cleaning any blood and dirt off them.

"here, you can keep it." Kat said, as she handed him a bottle of painkillers. "I have plenty at home, and you should as well."

"Thanks." Hiroshi noted before taking some and alongside Kat, proceeded to escort Sarah back to the foster family.

As the parents noticed the cat being in good condition, they nearly could have started to cry, as they hugged her, and even to Hiroshi's surprise, Kat decided to let them off without trouble.

With them thanking and leaving the park, he took note that Kat was giving a light smile and wave to them, but as she noticed him staring, her pokerface returned with mean stare at him. "What?"

"Nothing." hiroshi said, as he couldn't help but smile, as they returned to their patrol.

Nata was relaxing, playing an intense FPS game, before getting surprised by front door opening.

She quickly paused the game and came bolting from the sofa to meet Hiroshi. "Welcome home, Hiro!" she shouted out, before getting surprised with a light scream coming from her seeing him with face full of claw marks, as he was casually carrying a small box with him.

After some medicine applying on the wounds, and him comforting Nata that it wasn't a problem, they enjoyed some shortcake.

He couldn't help but admit it, Edith was right. It does taste better on special occasion.
