After Vi’s confession about murdering her brother, I met up with Syd and gave her the breakdown of everything. With the case wrapped up everyone that wasn’t involved with the case was free to go. Syd joined me outside as I was giving my statement to the police.
Thankfully with because of Vi’s confession they didn’t bother asking how exactly I was so sure and if I had any evidence. I wasn’t sure if it was acceptable to take pictures of people without their permission.
“That about wraps up all our questions, is there anything else we should know?” the bald officer said.
“Nope that’s about all I’ve got” I said. The officer gave me a wave goodbye and then joined his partner in the squad car. Syd and I watched as he drove away. Before I could say anything, I noticed a man approaching us.
“Hi detective, do you have a quick moment?” The man said approaching up whe was in a tan overcoat with a blue polo and black slacks. What stood out the most was his grassy green eyes. “I’m a journalist for a local news station and I was wonder if I can ask you some questions about the murder that just happened.”
The man extended his hand and shook Syd’s hand and Syd kindly shook his hand then he reached for my hand. Something in my core was telling me I needed to get away from this guy. Behind those green eyes lurked something devious. It was like this conversation was being watched by another party and I didn’t know how.
A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
“I have no comment, I’ve already told the police everything that I know. Have a great rest of your night.” I said wrapping my arm around Syd and walked past him to the garage where our cars were parked.
“That was really rude of you not to shake his hand.” Syd said as we walked.
“Yeah, well let’s call it a gut feeling that we should not trust that guy. But I actually need to get to Karlo’s place to drop off his things.” I said standing in front of my car.
Syd stood on her toes and gave me a kiss. “Okay don’t keep me waiting too long.”
“Of course, what kind of gentleman leaves a lady waiting.” I said.
Walking to Karlos apartment the lights were turned off and the condo appeared to be empty. I felt my phone in my pocket vibrate. Someone must have died to call me at this hour.
Too soon?
I set Karlos things on the table and grabbed my phone, it was Karlo. "What’s up, Luana is asleep I’m assuming” I said flicking the kitchen light on and sitting on one of the stools.
"Hell yeah, thanks for getting my stuff from her place. What'cha got planned for tomorrow?" Karlo said.
"It's my day off, so nothing in particular." I said.
"Perfect! I’m cashing in on one of those favors. Can you go over to one of my clients tomorrow and update all their security software for me? Tomorrow is going to be a big day; I’m finally getting my freedom.”
"Oh wow, big day indeed. Don’t die in the process.” I chuckled. I moved to the fridge and grabbed a water bottle.
"Honestly if I need to continue doing this streak, I’d rather die. That’s why I have to leave tonight if I am going to get to Ghost Chatter HQ.”
"I got you bro just send me the location and I’ll take care of it." Taking a sip form the water bottle.
"Thanks so much buddy! I'll give you 50% of the pay." Karlo said. As he hung up the phone, I closed the door to his apartment and locked it behind me.
