Chapter 112: What an end this Is

A white shield as big as a mountain was formed in front of Zirnitra. It was inlaid with black and golden runes which resonated with the earth’s mana.

The glemorax chief aimed to distract the wyvern and deal a critical blow to Zyrus, but from the looks of it, his plan had failed miserably.

Not only was Zirnitra not lost in rage, the earlier provocation had made him even more determined.

The battle between the glemorax army and Zyrus’s summons was in a similar stalemate as well. Most of the aliens’ fierce attacks landed in the air. The ophidian warriors were fighting like slippery snakes whereas the amargs and drakes guarded the portals. This harassing tactic was rather effective on the glemorax army.

In the sky, the white shield and the red spear finished their transformations at the same time. The hundred-foot-long spear was like a toothpick compared to the enormous shield, but still, Zirnitra wasn’t lax in the slightest.

He was feeling firsthand how sharp and penetrative that spear was. Just like Zyrus’s various concepts, the spear also contained the concepts of sharpness and penetration.

It was just that compared to Zyrus, the glemorax chief’s usage of it was crude to say the least. He had no hope for further progress as he meddled in too many concepts. For the time being though, he had an absolute advantage against opponents at the same level.

The glemorax chief chanted in an unknown language. Neither Zirnitra nor Zyrus who was casting a spell knew what it meant. Nonetheless, both had their senses alarming them of danger.

A total of nine eyes appeared on the spear’s shaft. Despite them being closed, it gave the feeling as if all of their defenses were seen through by those eyes.

The eerie red spear shot forth like an arrow. A spatial rift was left behind its trajectory as the spear soared towards the wyvern’s heart.

  “Sanction: Shield of Amaic.”

The smaller shield manifested by Zirnitra’s claws moved towards the central shield. They took the shape of a ten diagrams formation. Ten shields were circling the central shield, moving towards each corner along with the sky and the earth.

All of this happened in an instant. Barely any time had passed before the red spear clashed against the shield formation.

  *Craak*

The little shields shattered like glass upon the first impact. The red spear seemed to ignore the concept of defense itself as it lunged at the flying wyvern.

The glemorax chief was about to launch his next attack on Zyrus, when all of a sudden his expression took a drastic change.

So far, only he and Zyrus were able to use the powers of origin. The glemorax chief knew very well that he was inferior to the latter when it came to the source of origin. It was one of the many reasons as to why the lord had ordered the summoner’s execution.

But now, there was a third entity who used a source of origin. What caused the glemorax chief to doubt his knowledge was the fact that this entity was someone else’s summon.

  *Clang*

Zirnitra was fundamentally different from everyone else. He didn’t just inherit the spells and knowledge of sorcery upon his evolution. He also possessed a source of origin just like Tauranox and Camazotz.

Zyrus had a surprised yet pleasant look on his face. To be honest, he didn’t have total faith in the Zirnitra’s ability after seeing the nine eyes on the spear. The only reason he didn’t stop his spell casting was because unlike other mages who suffered a backlash upon interruption, he had no such limits.

Even after losing most of his powers, he was the most knowledgeable arcanist alive. He could wield mana however he wished.

Zyrus continued his casting while keeping an eye on the battle below. Neither the glemorax chief nor Zirnitra could afford to shift their focus. They weren’t like Zyrus afterall. One went all out in attack while the other was completely focused on defending.

The disadvantage of such high-level moves was evident at this moment. If not for the fact that the glemorax chief was wary of Zyrus’s various means, he wouldn’t have used such a method. It was to his advantage to grind them down by using kiting tactics.

  *Krrrsshh*

Screeching sounds resounded across the mountain range as the spear and the shield grinded against one another. Neither of the two could last for more than a minute, but still, the aftershocks of their clash were strong enough to flip the land and shatter the sky.

It was a clash of concepts and willpower.

The glemorax warriors and Zyrus’s summons stopped their battle and focused on defending. Even the portals formed by Zyrus were destabilized under the impact of the battle above.

  *RUUMBLE*

It was a cataclysmic scene to behold. Layers of atmosphere were ripped apart by the spear and shields' collision, making the outer space visible from the ground.

‘I didn’t expect the glemorax chief to be so rash, but I’ll gladly take the gift.’

Zyrus chuckled without worry and hastened his casting. The environment had become favorable for what he had in mind.

Although Zirnitra was slowly edging towards defeat in this collision, Zyrus wasn’t the least bit concerned about it.

Zyrus he knew a lot about incantation and conjuring magic, but he wasn’t an expert in either field. The same went for summoning, elemental, and many such branches of magic. His fame as a dimensional mage was attained after the fourth ring.

Dimensional magic wasn’t a child’s play. Lv 100 was the minimum requirement to dabble in this field. Before that, Zyrus was the example of a textbook mage. He wasn’t specialized in any magic, but at the same time, he didn’t have any limitations either.

‘I remember I won the flag march by using this spell.’

Zyrus had a reminiscent smile as he spent the last traces of mana. Nine hundred ninety-nine magic circles appeared in the torn sky. Neither a second before, nor a second after. All circles manifested at the same instant.

Such control was impossible to attain, even for the likes of Aurora and Anansi. This was the power that belonged to the one who stood at the peak of arcana.

Zyrus didn’t have the time to practice all the skills he learned before regression. One had to achieve sufficient feats to be recognized by the sanctuary. Although Zyrus knew a lot of spells, he couldn’t use them without getting achievements. His situation was like a veteran soldier who was playing a shooting game. Even though he had the knowledge, he couldn’t use it in the game without sufficient programming.

“That being said, I can just go wild on earth,” Zyrus shook off his nostalgic thoughts and brought down his hands. On earth, his sheer willpower allowed him to make up for the lack of mana.

Time slowed down and the space became even more unstable. It was as if the entire sky was collapsing along with his hands.

As a matter of fact, it was.

Just like the fireball was a novice spell that marked the beginning of a mage’s journey, there was also a spell that signified the apex of spell casting.

  [Meteor Blast]

The shield and the spear started sizzling like oil on a frying pan. At Zyrus’s current level, this spell could at most affect the radius of a hundred meters. However, this wasn’t the sanctuary. This was Earth, a world that was tethering on the brink of destruction. The space in this region was even more fragile due to Zyrus’s portals and spatial rifts left by the spear.

To add more fuel to the fire, the atmosphere was shredded in this area as well. Thus, what fell from the sky wasn’t a meteor’s projection made by mana.

“Did you forget what I told you last time?” Zyrus spoke and pointed at the falling meteor. The yellowish-red object engulfed whatever was remaining of the sky.

“I said that it would be the end when I return.”

And was there a more fitting end than a natural catastrophe that could wipe out civilizations? Both the spear and shield’s projections broke apart under the searing heat.

Thousands of glemorax warriors were roasted alive at each passing second. What else could they do? Even their chief didn’t fare any better against the cosmic object.

The glemorax chief cackled in madness. He knew that going back was futile. Even if he survived this attack by a miracle, his lord wouldn’t spare him after repeated failures.

Zyrus didn’t wait for the glemorax chief’s last words. Talking during battle was only advantageous if he wanted to probe for information or stall for time.

But now, why would he waste his time on someone weaker than him?

Zyrus clapped his hands and the meteor split in half. One of them descended on the flying glemorax chief whereas the other fragmented into thousands of rays.

The glemorax chief saw the yellow beams of energy piercing the brains of his kinsmen. And before long, he too was consumed by the same burst of thermal energy.

“Still not showing up huh,” Zyrus muttered as he stared at the far horizon. He knew that there was a ‘lord’ behind these four-armed aliens. Unless their lord was dumber than an orc, he wouldn’t just sit there and send waves of resources in his way.

The only possible scenario was that something was restricting his movements. And since that was the case, he would take this chance to improve his strength once again.

The verdara beetles and glemorax race were wiped out for good. Now, it was time to reclaim the sole continent on earth.
