I think we should start now.
“2 more minutes!” Yv said while gazing out of a tail igloo she had made and gotten herself in to.
You’ve been saying that for the past hour!
“Aww, you caught on. You’re such a softie, though.” Yv came from under my tails. Her face was a bit flushed and she flapped her blouse.
Why did you stay in there if it was too warm…you almost turned yourself into a baked rabbit.
“The comfort of the softness trumped the discomfort of being hot.”
Self-baking emergency food, eh?
“I’m not emergency food!” Yv used a panel to simulate some monsters and showed [Wind Rope]. “It’s flexible but weak.”
She whipped the monster with it, but the monster hardly took damage. She then easily bound it. “It could also be used for other stuff…fun stuff…”
Thank you for shattering this innocent image I had of you…maybe I attract weirdos… so it's like wires.
The mana inside of me converted to wind mana with difficulty and [Wind Rope] got formed, but it was a bit sloppy.
Guess I have to fight against my non-existent wind affinity.
I sat down and spent an hour focusing and making sure the [Wind Rope] actually looked like a rope. It was only partly successful as it was more of a wind thread. I could see it, but Yv couldn’t.
Wow I suck. It’s either a wind blob or a wind thread.
“Using magic outside your affinity normally takes months if not years to get decent results…”
Ha! That’s partly correct! If your mana control is excellent, you cut down a lot on that time. Control is king!
“Yes, but water and wind magic are the only elements that need a lot of mana control for basic skills, so it’s not very common…”
What are your affinities besides nature and wind?
“Water and mildly earth.”
Full on nature elements, eh? Have you gone into those yet?
“Not really, I want to get skilled at my rabbit mode elements first before I work on the others.”
I see, makes sense. Meanwhile, I'm not touching spatiotemporal or illusion magic a lot… it makes so much sense that I don’t do the same…
The wind thread turned into a thin wind wire and whipped around uncontrollably.
“Oh that was fast.”
Yv…you should put more effort in mastering this skill it's insane…
“What do you mean? It's on a similar tier as [Fireball].” Yv said as she cocked her head.
I don’t want to be mean, but this is what I mean with ‘everyone sucks at magic’
I got up. And showed my pathetic wind wires.
This is still incomplete as you can see but… maybe It's because I studied magic and have good mana control but… couldn’t I use this like my wires? In its incomplete state?
I tried manipulating the wind wires like I do with dragonbeard wires, but I lost control, it lashed into every direction and hit my face.
Ouch!
“You’re bleeding!” Yv ran over to apply nature energy, but I held out my hand and stopped her.
It’s fine. Just focus on my words. Yv you saw how this could act like wires, right? Wasn’t my first try, some shitty wind thread? Yv, you’re a designer…
“Oh! Wait?! It could be used like that?!” Yv messed around with her [Wind Rope] it took her a lot of focus to turn it into thread. “This is tiring…”
Yv worked her ass off to form the wind threads, while I worked my ass off to create [Wind Rope].
The day ended with both of us being exhausted and failed to reach our objective.
“Is this how you come up with those crazy magic skills?” Yv asked while laying on her back with her chest heaving
Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
I don’t see it as crazy, though. Oof I’m pooped.
All I did was trying to use a new skill and it created new ideas. Do people really not see this when using magic? Maybe they don’t have the mana control, time or knowledge to act upon it.
The problem I had with normal wires was that the control lied in the part that I was holding. To have a wire cut off a head I have to manipulate the part I’m holding to get the job done. With [Wind Rope] and its thinner versions, I could control every part independently, if my mana control allowed for it.
Yv could use the treads to weave a large wind teddybear and control it like a marionette but more…intricately, as if it was truly alive. It's highly theoretical and needs an insane amount of control but…it's theoretically possible. Maybe I’m the crazy one for coming up with it.
None of the other elements have an equivalent. Either wind is the only element that could do this, or nobody bothered creating equivalents. Nothing in my catalog of stolen magic could I find anything similar. I’d have to look based on magic similarities, but nobody has time for that.
“Hey sweetie, do you think any of us could ever be useful to you in combat?”
What a loaded question. Does she think they’re useless in combat?
Giana has demonstrated being ‘useful’ in combat.
I said while making air quotes.
There is no being useful or useless. It’s finding your niche. I have found mine, and I helped Deca find hers. You will have to find yours as the rest. I can help you with this, but in the end it's up to you. Your role is most likely Hawkeye right? They are the only role that truly shine outside battle. As for in combat, you could help those who are under pressure and I can’t help.
“Like your assistant?”
Uhh not really but you would be assisting me and the rest.
“But I become useless when there are no obstacles…”
You’re not useless… also Noelle and Greg can make pillars, so can Deca and I but they will be cold to your feet. Also, the [Accel Step] I gave you should help.
“I want more insurance.” Yv said and gave me a hopeful look.
Fine…it seems you found the aura that works the best on me…
“Of course! I will be coming straight for your heart!” Yv winked and made a cute pose.
Did your idol aura disappear?
“You’re talking to it!”
I remember it sounding differently.
“A tweak here and there, and it was done! It has to work well with you!” Yv suddenly had a lot of energy, and it made me even more exhausted than I already was.
I made excuses about being tired and wanted to get to my own room. We met Giana and Nilah on our way to our rooms.
“Hey, Deca. I gave Nilah the mana we collected. Also, don’t make it a habit to sleep alone. I miss you…” Giana blew a kiss and disappeared in her room with Yv.
Now I feel bad for sleeping alone…
Nilah leaped into my arms and I retreated to my room. I found a great spot and curled up. Giana and Yv would want some answers soon about what I’m planning. I don’t like revealing my plans as I will look like a fool if it fails, but maybe I should tell them, but my future self can deal with that problem.
The next day was spent making a skill for Yv. It would be a modified [Blender]. I ignored all her wishes and went for a fun skill. Now it wouldn’t be a real [Blender] nono! It would create a ball of rapidly spinning air. She can hop in and uhh has to hop out to get launched. Now she has to nail the timing for this, else she would get flung out in the wrong direction!
It sounds fun, but it might kill her in dire situations, so I should make it fun but relatively reliable. The randomness would make it more fun though… A dead Yv isn’t funny though…
It also needs a super cool name, as it might earn her an adventurers name. So [Fake Blender] or [Rabbit Launcher] is out.
“Would you be so kind to voice your thoughts while making this skill?”
Oof, that’s a question I haven’t heard before. A possibly important question. I can’t get away with adding random ideas now…
The skill I will be making ignores all your wishes and requests, it will be a rabbit launcher in function, but I will make it elegant and give it an elegant name. I think…
“You want to…launch me?”
Nono! You’re going to do that yourself!
“Why would I launch myself?” Yv asked as she crossed her arms.
Uhh, because it’s fun?
“Do you have any other ideas?”
Nope!
She frowned and placed her ear on my chest. “Now say that again, are you sure you don’t have other ideas?”
This is cheating…
“I’m waiting!”
Ok, instead of a rabbit launcher how about a rabbit rocket!
“Unbelievable…”
I decided on the [Rabbit Launcher: Name Tentative] after some messing around. Yv didn’t like that I called it that, so I shortened it and called it [RL:NT] and she hated it even more.
The week went by and my mastery of [Wind Rope]… was poor. Yv’s skill had been completed, and it was ready for her to showoff during the C-rank assessment. I would also pull some strings behind her back so that her adventurer’s name would become the name of that skill.
