Turns out I did not need to worry about how the giant was going to be removed from my ship. Even as I am thinking about what to do, the Aegis begin to make their move.
The one who is at the vanguard of this group is Anthony Greyvoid. (It is rare for the captains to be so proactive in a guard troop.)
His sword is so charged with mana that I don't even need my sensory formations to sense it. I don't know how exactly the man can control so much mana. I am surprised that I did not notice this. That is a pretty significant amount of mana. I would not have ignored that so easily.
The man stabs out with his sword, and the mana on his sword flies at the creature like a beam. It hits the creature like an airship has crashed into it. I am not even surprised, as the force of the strike is enough to cause the abomination to fly away. (The damn thing is double the height of Lauren and at least five times her weight. To make it fly is no mean feat.)
Sadly, most of the force of the attack was used up in throwing the creature away from the ship. If it had been focused on one of its limbs, it would have been enough to destroy that limb. (I want to see if it would have healed from that.)
Even as it lands, I take the opportunity to shoot my cannons at it. The creature senses it as it blocks it with its hands. How in the hells did it do that? No undead can react that quickly.
I don't know how exactly the necromancers provide intelligence to their creatures. I have to assume that it is similar to how golems are created. If that is the case, it takes months to create an intellect capable of movement like that.
The cannons do affect it, though, as three streaks of magic hit it. The force of the strike is enough to cause holes to appear in the creature's arms. Though much like Lauren's strikes, the creature repairs it on the spot. How in the hells is an undead able to pull off such precise mana control? Again, such a control core would be very costly and hard to make. Something these necromancers don't have the time for.
Speaking of Lauren, she is right now on the bow of the ship. Eric and John are carrying her back into the ship. She is pretty injured at the moment. I am not too worried about her, though. She has healed up from even worse injuries before.
As my cannons are charging back up, I prepare to fight. The damn creature is walking towards us even now. I could take off right now. The problem with that is it would damage the propulsion formation. (Let's just say our landing was not as perfect as I hoped it to be.) It would be easily fixable, but that would take time that we might not have.
Just as I am confused about what to do, the Aegis enters into action. The axe wielder is the first to jump into the battle as his axe glows with mana. He seems to be a martial mage. Even as the creature punches at him, he jumps to the side.
This leaves the creature exposed to the two swordsmen's attack. Much like their leader, the two streaks of light cause cuts on the creature. Theirs are naturally not as strong, but they still leave a couple of cuts on the giant. It is already healing, though.
The spear wielder stays back, looking for an opportunity to strike. There is quite a bit of mana gathered at the top of his spear. Whenever he attacks, it is going to have quite an impact.
As for Anthony, the man is right now gathering mana onto his sword. Such a powerful attack must require a long time to charge up.
As for what the giant is doing. The undead have begun to move towards Anthony. Good, because if the creature was interested in the ship, things wouldn't have been pretty. I can see the fear on the man's face at this, though. He had not expected this. He continues to send mana into his sword resolutely. (Not that they will ever admit that is the case.)
The axe wielder attacks the legs of the creatures as he braces for an attack. The axe enters deep into the creature's bones. The damage is not too great, though, as the bones shuffle their position. Normally, that should have been enough for the undead to shift its focus to the axe wielder. This one just ignores him as he comes towards Anthony.
The axes wielder is caught off guard for a few moments, but he again charges towards the creature. This time, he just focuses on attacking the creature as mana flows into his axe. This is purely meant to cause damage, not attract the attention of the creature.
The two sword wielders also join, and so does the spear wielder. His attacks have some effect as he stabs into the giant, and that part of the creature explodes. I think the man cast a fireball through his spear. That leaves a hole in the creature that is still there. It has begun to fill up, but it is slower than before. Looks like the creature does have limits.

With all four of them attacking at their full force, the creature finally stops. It begins to divert its attention to the troops. The four people are circling the undead while attacking it from all sides. The attacks are enough to cause minor scratches to appear on the creature. There is no lasting damage to the creature.
Well, the creature has also not managed to cause much damage to the troops. Its attacks are very strong, but they are very slow. Dodging it is pretty easy. Throughout this happening, Anthony has been charging mana into his sword. He has stopped pushing more mana into his sword, so he must be ready. He shows no inclination to attack yet, though.
At the moment, I have my cannons ready again, but shooting them with so many people close by is risky. Cannons are not precise at the best of times. Friendly fire with the Aegis would not lead to anything good. They already barely trust me as it is.
By the way, all of this is happening about half a mile away from the ship. (Yes, Anthony's attack did manage to carry that living pile of bones that far away.)
Finally, the man attacks the giant. This time, I managed to see the attack properly. An entire wave of mana is ejected from the sword, taking the shape of the sword. I think it is called sword projection. I don't have much idea about it since it is something that foundation mages are usually not capable of.
The sword completely bisects the undead's right arm into two. It also managed to make a decent gouge into the creature's chest. With this, there is finally lasting damage to the undead. Not that it looks particularly affected by the attacks.
I take the opportunity to pepper the creature with my cannons. One hits it on its face, one on its chest and the last on its arms. This time, the damage to the creature remains as holes appear on the creature wherever they are hit. Compared to the size of the creature, though, those holes look like pinpricks.
I shouldn't have done that. That reminds the creature that I am there, as it again begins to move in my direction. The creature is not much of a threat, but we must not fight it near our ship. It would be able to do quite a bit of damage to the ship.
Anthony finally joins the fray as they try and hold back the creature. The five of them keep circling the creature as I keep shooting it with my cannons. There is an edge of desperation in all of our attacks. I wonder whether I should just launch the ship. I can fix the propulsion formation with time. Physical damage will take way more work. (And carpentry) I decide to leave it for now. If the creature gets too close, I will launch the ship.
The damage begins to accumulate on the creature but we don't manage to slow it down significantly. It is suddenly desperate to get to the ship. While the creature is slow, every single attack it holds quite an impact. Even Anthony is barely able to block those attacks. Things would have been very different if Lauren had been down there.
Maybe if Anthony could pull off another sword projection. If he could target the creature's legs, we could immobilize it. That seems pretty unlikely, though. Looks like the man has reached his limits. We will be able to destroy the creature, but not before it reaches my ship.
As I am recording all of this, I have been attacking the creature with my cannons. I am now focusing all of my attacks on the creature's legs. The troop attacking the creature is doing the same thing.
The creature is about a quarter of a kilometer away from here now. It will reach the ship in about a couple of minutes at its present pace. I begin to prepare the propulsion formation for a launch. As I am doing this, an arrow streaks from the top of my ship.
It hits the creature's legs with enough force that it pauses for a second. Just as I turn to look for its source, the arrow explodes. The force of the explosion is so great that I can almost feel it on my skin. The creature finally collapses to the ground as I shoot my cannons at it.
I don't even need to look for long to find the source of the arrow. Looks like Eric has been quite busy ever since I left the sentinels. I have never seen the man shoot that far (his crossbow packs a punch, but it never had much range.)
The man looks pale enough that I don't even need to guess that he has emptied his mana core to do this. Still, the shot has managed to destroy the creature's legs completely. That is why it was worth it.
The remaining two sentinels have also entered into action. It is John who reaches the creature first. He quietly joins the attacking troop as they focus their attack on the creature's other leg. There is a silverish glow on his sword as the bones of the creature part like butter to it.
His attacks are not as powerful as Anthony's sword projection. Still, they do end up causing quite a bit of damage to the creature. (They are significantly cheaper in terms of mana, too.)
Behind him, we have Emilia, her dagger flashing and biting into the creature's legs. She does not have much effect (she is not good at direct combat, especially against non-humans.), but the seven people keep up their attack on the creature.
(After ten minutes.)
Well, I would like to say that something impressive happened here. The creature was as good as destroyed the minute its legs were shot. After that shot, the two troops carefully attack the creature. They have been slowly but steadily attacking the creature, stripping it of its mass.
It seems almost like the two troops are slowly dismantling the creature bone by bone. It takes me a bit to realize why that is the case. Looks like there is somebody inside the giant. A necromancer who is piloting the giant. They want to capture them without hurting them, it looks like.
That certainly answers many questions about the creature. Things such as how it was able to show such intellect. It is easy to behave like a human when you are a human.
Well, I can now safely ignore the giant. The two troops have it well under control now.
I have more important work to focus on. After all, we will have gained a prisoner. Holding a necromancer does tend to be pretty hard due to their death mana. Death mana tends to be pretty corrosive by nature.
I will need to arrange a place to hold this necromancer. Thankfully, I had expected something like this might happen. I already have an idea, though that would require me to get started on it. Let's just hope I have enough time to implement it before the people here start hounding me. I will speak about it in the next log.
