“Mmmmm!”
“Is it good?” Taylor asked.
“Yes,” Ever said, nodding at his colleague. He took another bite of the ‘E’ cupcake, chewed and swallowed. “But I’ve got a question.”
“Uhuh?”
“You called this white stuff on top of the cupcake icing - why isn’t it cold?” Chaos glanced over at him, holding his “V” cupcake daintily between his thumb and index finger.
Taylor was momentarily lost for words. “Dude, are you high?”
“High?” He looked up.
“You know what, don’t worry.” She said, shaking her head before putting her index finger up. “Before I forget, you can have today off.”
“Off?” Ever said. “You mean not work?”
“Yeah, I was going to give it to you anyway again as thanks for slogging through the last month with me and giving me that time a couple weeks ago to study. But seeing you break down like that, I think you really need the break.”
“I’m already here though.”

“Yeah, and the day’s just about to start, but I’ve got Chaos so we should be OK.” The primordial being cosplaying as the eccentric old man popped over Taylor’s shoulder again, hand making an ‘OK’ sign.
“Take the break, it can’t be easy working two jobs,” Chaos said.
Taylor spun around and looked at the newest team member. “What?” She turned back to Taylor. “Another job? You didn’t tell me this.”
Ever gave Chaos a reproachful look, extending his arms forward, before remembering the usual body language and crossing them.
“What’s your other job?” Taylor persisted. She shifted towards him, a glint in her eye.
∞Go, Death’s Apprentice.∞
Ever walked aimlessly, wandering through the city of Melbourne. Since arriving on Earth and nearly being hit by a car while practising how to walk, he had a greater appreciation and understanding of road rules. For the most part, it was pretty easy: people tended to wait together at the three-eyed lights, taking turns to cross.
Ever craned his neck up. The structures were so tall here, stretching up and seeming to disappear into the sky itself. What purpose did people have standing amongst the clouds like that?
The crowd started moving and he moved along with them. He put his hand in his pocket and pulled out the extra notes from last week. He frowned, looking at the squiggly numbers in the corners but eventually made out yellow ‘50’ notes and orange-red ‘20’ notes amongst them. It was Chaos’ money. He always left his own pay in the bag he got from the corner shop when Taylor had asked him to buy sprinkles weeks ago. It was stuffed into a corner in the back room back at the ice cream shop.
Chaos clearly didn’t want it, but why give it to him? If he held onto the money and kept accumulating it, the bag wouldn’t hold it all. He might as well spend it. Wait, that's what he would do - buy a bag. He looked around - question was, where in this place of concrete towers would he find a shop that sold bags?
