14-Pain is Good

Moving my body I found that there was no pain but I did struggle to get out of the covers at first as it was kept tight to me and the bed. I got up just enough to reach my bag. My team would wait, there was something else I needed to do.

Taking the bag I looked for the letters to find them tucked under some extra clothes that were torn to shreds. Thankfully I wouldn't hear from grandmother about how I got them destroyed in under a week. I thought of something and looked around, nothing stated what time it was so I didn't know how long I was out for.

I got back on the bed, ying back down to rest and read the first letter I picked out. If almost dying didn't count as a time of great need then I didn't know what was. My grandmother's voice had reminded me of her letters, it was time to find out what they were about

The top was marked with my grandpa's name and a title Pain is Good

The title is a little off but it fits well enough. I don't remember where I heard about this line of thinking but pain is good for you. It tells you where you hurt, what is wrong, and if you can still feel pain then you are still living.

Living is all that matters, like we have for the many years we have settled this area. No one has ever come to help us, only new people to add to our situation, but we have lived.

I pause and think back to my dream, he's right. Back in that vision, no one came, it was all on me. I continue reading.

You have to keep fighting and breathing because once you stop there is no coming back. I have known many good people who failed to understand this and died when they could have lived. That's just how it goes. On a brighter note, when you have grown up, you will be ready for this journey. I grew up in the city and had to be saved by Patty in one of the wild areas in Povaglia. I hope that you will be strong enough to fight your own battles and decide what you want to do beyond family. You are your own person and have every right to do what will make you happiest.

That's all I will ever ask of you. I love my wife, son, and all three of my grandchildren dearly so I hope that you turn out alright and will be happy in the life you lead. Now, I have been itching to share a theory I have with my next grandchild in one of these. Patty has been telling me about her past and how she trained her fighters. The interesting part though is that her sayings about names and words having meaning are true. I never understood that for some reason until she showed me some applications. Fighting may be our name for the type but it represents multiple aspects of the world, it is an imperfect name but to do better you will need to research more. While I could include some of my own findings I haven't encountered anything more than your grandmother will impart with better words than I could.

On another note, if you ever get a fighting Pokémon, which I bet you will at your dad and grandmoms insistence, then I want you to try to choose a Pokémon with a strong will. Like psychic types, fighting types rely on a strong force of will to keep going and be vigorous. Then, get them to enhance the air around them with fighting type energy. Absolutely infest it. If I'm right then it will manifest a spirit of competition in other Pokémon to get closer and in any type of up close fight, I'd take a fighting type any day of the week. Your grandma could kick my ass even though she hasn't worked out in years and I'm like twice her size with a bck belt in karate. Food for thought but think about what you could do with other types as well and learn more about their aspects as well.

From here I wish you the best of luck, love ya Gramps!!!

That was a nice letter, half encouraging half advice. I set it down, I'll read it once more tonight or whenever I go to sleep again and then I'll burn it. I could hear grandpa's voice as I read it, his voice dripping in an animated way to convey emotion and seriousness. I then pick up and was about to release the 3 pokeballs when someone quickly raps on the door and opens it.

A nurse is entering with a Hattrem. I growl at the Pokemon and it reacts with anger as well, readying an attacking move before the nurse recalls it. "Sorry about that, you must be feeling very emotional for Mary to react like that. We usually use her for unconscious patients so please forgive her reaction and congratutions on waking up."

"How long have I been out and how am I physically" I ask.

"Oh not long, a couple days actually. You were healed up quite nicely by our surgeon and his Ditto. A young woman kept you alive long enough such that we could get you here to repce the damaged organs and bones" she moved to grab something from a drawer and pulled out something that she fshed in my eyes. "Now look at me, is there anything wrong with your vision? Do you know where you are?"

"No, some hospital I guess. I am at least in Blossom city as far as I knew" I started scratching Fly's head. I moved on to scratching her neck as Hannah did it and it looked like she enjoyed that area.

"Good, and yes to the second question. We contacted your folks but they kept ending the call quickly when we tried speaking. In the end friends of yours did it before they left. They said that they would come back this way after they tried getting the badge in Darkuf since we didn't know how long you would be out. Our scanners told us you were experiencing hallucinations and the doctors haven't had any experience working with humans hit by Z-moves so it was a very novel occasion" Most companies 'don't do business in the forest' so we hung up on anyone we didn't know. The main people we actually received calls from were my brother and sister, sometimes my mom's sister, and construction companies that eagerly called someone in the vilge once a day to see if we needed them to come out again to rebuild a building in the vilge.

"Don't worry about that, its fine, they have their own journeys ahead of them... Even if mine may have almost ended. Do you have a pay phone for me to call them with?" We were used to this sort of thing in the vilge, 5 kids within a couple years of us died while we were still in Forestree. Taking a journey was one of the greatest chances us Forestreers had to get out of the vilge. No one was allowed to leave except trainers 14-19 years old. That is why our vilge, despite the horrible location, was still there. For some reason, ACE trainers brought back kids who tried to explore a wider part of the forest. The adults that tried were mostly new to the vilge and they also were brought back, only their head though. And they always find the runaways.

"Ummm, I'd have to ask around but I'm sure we can figure something out. I could let you call on my phone if you wanted instead" she offered.

My eyes widened "Actually do you know where my pokedex is? I have the call feature added to it, I forgot."

It was broken but she then told me where to get money to repce my stuff from the company(Neo Grounds Services) that protected that area along with minor help from the police force that was supposed to cover my losses. Since it happened on their watch, they were liable and I had my hospital bill covered by the league since I was registered to the circuit so I would be financially ok.

"Also about your energy manipution. It was fixed, for the most part, but the lingering dark energy is interfering with any unnatural movements as it circutes. What this means is that you won't be able to teleport or get any aura powers from the connection like normal. You won't be able to control it on your own without extreme pain and it is recommended that you not try to until it is worked out of your system."

"Well how long will it take for that to happen?" I asked, that sounded bad.

She gave me a look of pity "We don't know for sure but most likely a long time, never even."

I looked down at my feet, trying to get her to leave at this point. She did after a couple more tests and calling in an Comfey and doctor to check me out. She then told me one st time where to go and to check out at the front desk before leaving.

When she left I started where I left off and opened the pokeballs to find my trio silent as they watch me. "Ok guys, that was a bad experience to say the least but hopefully won't happen again. I still have the same pn to keep going and get stronger, I hope that you'll join me."

I gave them some time to think but Ian's response was immediate "As a soldier, I would rather stick with an unlucky but good leader than a bad one. Let my bde continue to be yours kid" Ian pledged in a more formal way than I knew him to be.

Fly jumped up and started yapping loudly as she put her paws up on my leg wanting help up onto the bed. I smiled at her and her easily loyal attitude before helping her up. She sat in my p as I started stroking her fur and around her rge head, getting shocked in the process.

Puff was the st and took much longer than my oldest and newest companions. She watched me, thinking something in those beady eyes of hers. She closed them for awhile as I groomed Fly. She shrugged before opening them again and nodded. That made me over the moon, I had done something right such that Pokemon were willing to follow me.

"Then we set out now, lets go team."

Leaving them out I grabbed my bag and stuffed the cards from a couple people into it as best I could. There was one from Zac, Hannah, some girl named Chloe, Stew, and even Henry Johnson with his phone number. I realized I had a hospital gown on so I switched into something they left on a tabletop with jeans and a white cotton shirt.

We then checked out of the hospital to go to the company and get the money I was promised. I talked with a desk clerk before getting a meeting within an hour. I received 10,000 pokedolrs which wasn't much but they also gave me a keystone. It was worth around 700,000 to 800,000 in of in itself in addition to the luck it took to find them. Both Puff and Fly could mega evolve, so I would have to choose one day between them and gather the funds for the matching mega stone. This would save me a lot of time and/or money rather than searching for or buying a keystone if I ever made it to my 7th or 8th badge. I dreamed of being able to get one of every type of 'gimmick' one day and now it was even more possible.

I exited the city after shopping(NEW Manectric and Altaria key ring figures added to the Tyrantrum and Aegissh ones!) at a pokemart to pick some stuff up. I noticed quickly how I had gained an annoyance towards every Strange Forest species my home had had the displeasure of being attacked by. Puff noticed somewhat and distracted me with some hair pulls. It was greatly appreciated despite the pain and the workings to fix my mohawk.

I didn't look back as I made my way more eastward than Darkuf's route 8. There was a more rugged trail but still better than what I started on since it was also a designated route. I hadn't really cared enough to note it, but the paths got better the closer I got to Blossom. The same was true here, they got worse and worse until it was only a dirt road with many pot holes from stray moves from wilds. Route 9 was not the greatest but not the worst pathway I'd traveled before.

Fly was nipping at my heels until I carried her, and Ian hung over my shoulder with his ribbon, resting himself. Puff was still nesting on my head so I was weighed down by my entire team as I trudged away from the beautiful city of Blossom.
