229. The Underworld (3)

It has been five years since Diva and I trained inside this laboratory. We were bought by a woman scientist named Anna. She has been taking care of us properly without ever doing us wrong, even once. She gave us food and shelter, and those already felt luxurious to me.

During the entire five years, we have been diligently doing the battle simulation every single day without a break. She has been paying attention to our growth in combat, and thanks to that, our Faith powers have also gotten significantly stronger. We were also subjected to various other kinds of simulations that provoked our emotions, though for this simulation, Anna warned us extremely about the severity of the simulation.

At first, she only had us go through the bare minimum, but we both insisted to her that we want to get stronger quickly, and these simulations are the perfect opportunity to develop and build our mental fortitude. Those simulations were horrible, as she has mentioned. She quickly comforted us every time after the simulations, but we decided to keep going. And the result satisfies us nonetheless.

I used to be able to swap places with any of my gadgets within only a 10-meter radius around me. But now---

  *BANG*

  *DAHK*

  “Phew!!”

I just shot someone with my pistols who was 100m away from me and swapped places with the bullet. I immediately dropped down and did my spinning axe kick on him and planted his face deep into the concrete floor below.

  *BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPPPPP*

“Alright, Eissen! Your training’s over for today!!”

The simulation turns off as I take off my VR headset. I quickly walked out of the simulation room, and Diva was already waiting for her turn outside.

  *Bump*

  “Good luck in there!”

  “Thanks, Eissen-kun!”

I quickly ran up the stairs to watch Diva’s simulation. She has been participating in a sniping simulation, where she is placed in a specific lookout position in a randomly generated environment, and she must kill a large number of ‘people’ inside their home base far in the distance.

At first, she only had to kill about seven or eight people without a time limit, but as she kept doing more simulations, the stakes and difficulty were raised. Now, she has to kill about 200 ‘people’, who are also actively trying to shoot her from a distance, within a 10-minute countdown.

  *BANG BANG BANG BANG*

Diva just shot ten consecutive shots that immediately landed on ten different enemies’ heads at the same time.

“Wow, Diva-chan is so good, now!”

“Correct, Eissen-kun! She’s so different compared to the first time!”

“These battle simulations always felt so real, and that kinda encouraged us to take every battle simulation seriously as if they were the real deal.”

“Well, of course! These enemies that you have fought are actual real humans’ data that we got officially and legitimately. These enemies behave the same way as their real-life counterparts down to their simplest gestures, physical habits, attack patterns, and even mindset. Sometimes I see one of these ‘replicas’ doing something that their real-life counterparts never even attempted previously.”

“That sounds so impressive, Anna-san! How on earth are you doing that? How powerful is this simulation?”

“Well, it is a case of how expensive the hardware is that makes it so powerful. Thankfully, we are a government-funded facility, so money is not a problem!”

  *!*

“Government-funded? So does that mean it was the government’s intention to salvage me and Diva through that illegal auction?”

  “Uum. . . about that. . .”

  *BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPP*

  *!!*

“AH! DIVA-CHAN IS DONE!! WOHOOOOOO!! Let’s greet her, Eissen-kun!!”

“(Eh? Why is she avoiding the subject?)”

We both walk down the stairs and greet Diva outside the simulation room.

  “Great job, Diva-chan!!”

  “Thanks, Eissen-kun!”

  We both fist-bump one another.

“AAAAHHH!! I am so happy seeing you two together like this!!”

“Isn’t that just everyday?” said me.

“Not only is Eissen-kun so handsome, but Diva-chan is a diva just like her name! You two really make a great couple!”

  “Well, we are dating.”

“But it’s contractual! So, we’ll break up once our contract is fulfilled.”

“EEEEEEHHHHH?? ISN’T THAT A LITTLE BIT SAD??? WHY NOT JUST DATE TO MARRY? YOU BOTH ARE CLOSE AND KNOW EACH OTHER PERSONALLY TOO!!”

“Oh, c’mon! Leave us be, why don’t you!” said me.

“Anna-san! This is our own decision! Please respect us!”

“Ugh, what else can I say when you put it like that. . .” said Anna as her mood drops exponentially.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

“C-Come on, Anna-san! Don’t you have to analyze our battle simulation just now?”

  “Right. . .”

Anna turns around with a sad face as she climbs up the stairs with no motivation.

  *!*

But then she turns around towards us when she reaches the top of the stairs.

“Oh, right, guys! I forgot to inform you two!”

  *?*

“From tomorrow on, you guys will be doing outside missions where you have to assassinate real people as per the Government’s request!”

  *!*

  “What?”

“Eh? Eissen-kun, did you forget? Anna-san has been preparing us for today this whole time! She explained this after our very first battle simulation back then!”

“R-Right! I was too focused on improving my skills; I completely forgot about that.”

“Well then, let’s go back to our room! Or would you prefer to go to my room and discuss some things for tomorrow?” said me.

“That’s a good idea! Let’s go!” answers Diva.

  “. . .”

Anna heard their last conversation, and she confronted them at the top of the stairs.

“J-Just so you know, we may have the capability of it, but please reconsider having a baby! Not to mention that doing outside missions during pregnancy is very dangerous and risky for the woman! Not to mention that you both are still so young as well!”

“WE ARE NOT HAVING SEX!!” shouted both of us in panic and a loud voice.

And then Anna immediately left in a hurry for the observation room to analyze our battle simulations.

  Next day

We are currently outside and away from the laboratory. This lab is located in the same country where I was born, somewhere in the West. Diva and I are finally doing our outside mission for the first time. The lab has equipped us with bodysuits with many capabilities, the main one being able to withstand a considerable amount of physical harm. Combined with the fact that both of us are Armament type, we’re practically invincible in this suit. Though Anna has warned us that both the bodysuits and our Vein armor have a threshold of damage we can take. She also warned us that doesn’t mean we should be ignorant and take as much damage as possible, though that much seems pretty obvious to both of us. The bodysuits are also equipped with detachable waist pockets, where we were given many other miscellaneous pieces of equipment to assist us during missions.

My bodysuit is black with yellow trims across its entire design, while Diva’s is white with black trims across its entire design.

We are currently positioned on a hill in the middle of a deep forest. This mansion is the only building in this location, and there are no roads anywhere leading into or outside the mansion. The mansion is entirely surrounded by a 10-meter-tall brick wall with no doors or gates that open up. Any transportation into or outside this mansion is done by air. There are three massive helipads on the rooftops with three private choppers parked above. There is also a small station on the roof to receive or send drones for their daily necessities.

It is a four-story building, and the mansion itself looks very expensive and luxurious, with pointless decorations here and there that serve no other purpose than to brag about their own wealth to anyone who was invited into the mansion. There are CCTVs everywhere across the entire brick wall and on the entire building as well. I should assume that there would be a lot more on the inside compared to the outside.

“That’s the mansion, Eissen-kun!” informs Diva while looking through binoculars.

“Alright, so we’ll just have to kill the owner and ditch out, correct?”

“Yes! It’s preferable to do this without alerting anyone.”

“I can do this with my Faith power!”

“Don’t you have to shoot first so you can swap places with your bullet, Eissen-kun?”

“That one is for emergency and combat scenarios! Remember, I can swap places with any of my gadgets!”

“Oh, right! I’ve seen you only doing battle simulations this whole time. I forgot your Faith power is more than that. By the way, do I need to come with you?”

“Hmm, given your Faith power, it would be better if you watch and assist me from here, but at the same time, I am not familiar with the terrain here, nor anything regarding that mansion! For caution, you should come with me! At least I can still protect you where I can see you!”

  “I understand!!”

We both move closer towards the mansion stealthily, and then we hide inside a bush about 5 meters away from the brick wall, on the south side of the mansion.

I summon a taser gun that can disable electronic devices for about five minutes.

  *ZRT*

  *TSRSKK*

I shot one of the CCTVs in the brick wall, and we proceeded to run and jump over the entire height of the brick wall. We land on the inside, and there is another CCTV, and I quickly zap it as well, disabling it.

“Phew! We’re almost already found out!”

“I’m impressed by your reaction time, Eissen-kun!”

“It’s thanks to those battle simulations after all! Let’s proceed!”

  She nods.

We have no idea what the structure of the mansion is. The government only gave us its location, and we are supposed to figure out everything else on our own. They are being unreasonable, but at the same time, complaining achieves nothing, so we’ll just have to proceed.

We entered through a back door quietly and swiftly. We entered a kitchen, a very large one, and saw about 10 or more maids preparing some food for the owner. We duck down and sneak past them masterfully; none of them were alerted by our presence.

We reached the living room, and it was gigantic. This feels like a small football field instead of a living room. There were so many sofas and large TVs to accommodate maybe a hundred people inside. Yet there was no one in this large room, so we sneaked past it silently while also shooting my taser gun at every CCTV inside the living room. We’re heading towards a staircase at the other side. We climbed the stairs and reached the second floor.

  *!!!*

But then I saw a four-year-old kid walking towards us out of a room, possibly his own bedroom.

  “(OH NO!!)”

“(TCH!! DO I HAVE TO KILL THIS KID?)”

  *!*

The kid was alerted by us. He was about to scream and cry, but I swiftly approached him and covered his mouth. I summon a gun and point it at his neck.

“(E-Eissen-kun, are you really going to involve him?)”

I pulled the trigger and shot the kid in the neck.

  *?*

As Diva was watching the entire time, she was confused at the lack of noise and blood that should’ve spilled to the floor. I shot the kid with a tranquilizer bullet instead.

  *thud*

The kid slowly falls to the floor, but I catch his body, and he loses consciousness. Diva silently approaches me, and I signal her to go inside the kid’s bedroom. She opens the door slowly, and we sneak inside while I carry the kid’s body. I immediately shoot my taser gun towards a CCCTV inside this room. I put the kid’s body gently on his bed.

“Phew, Eissen-kun! I genuinely thought that you were going to kill him. . .”

“Of course not! I am not going to involve outsiders regarding our missions!”

“That’s good to hear! Let’s continue!”

We exit the bedroom quietly and head to another staircase leading to the third floor.

On the third floor, there are so many large paintings all over the walls and giant porcelain flower vases near the walls. There are also many statues of animals that serve no functional purpose other than an aesthetic purpose.

  *!!!*

When we reached the third floor, we immediately saw our target, standing all by himself, talking on his phone while smoking a big cigarette, the kind that only rich people smoke.

We immediately approached him without a care in the world anymore. I unsummon my taser gun and summon my normal pistol, while Diva summons her sniper rifle. We stand behind him two meters away and point our guns at his head.

“Any last word, mister?” said me.

“This should be a piece of cake!!” said Diva.

  “HAHAHA!! WE FOUND HIM, ROBERT-KUN!!”

  “WOHOOO!!! FINALLY!!”

  “There he is, Martina-chan!!”

“I can’t wait to finally be done with this mission!!”

  *!!!!*

But to my knowledge, there are two other groups of assassins who were after the mansion’s owner’s head as well. One team consists of two teenage boys, one big muscular teen with tanned skin, wielding two giant axes, and a tall boy wearing glasses with fair skin, wielding two UZIs, who were standing west side of the mansion’s owner, and the other team consists of two girls, one with a short bob pink-haired girl, wearing two gauntlets on her arms, and a long brown haired girl, wielding two black disks on her arms.

  “W-WHO ARE YOU PEOPLEEEEEE????”

The mansion’s owner screamed in shock, seeing that this many people had suddenly appeared inside his mansion without his permission.
