Chapter 126 Why did you keep lying to me?

Only Evelyn's arms were without the cover of clothing, and the exposed skin still showed faint cracks tinged with blood.

Her body remained weak and feeble, able to manage only the slightest of movements.

  "Don't move," Ryan whispered.

He quickly retrieved a bottle of Mana Essence from the storage space and gestured to the small Drake beside him, who was still gnawing on a magic crystal to restore its power, asking it to help twist open the crystal bottle cap.

The Drake immediately put down the crystal and clumsily but quickly unscrewed the cap with its little claws.

Ryan carefully controlled the Mana Essence as it floated from the bottle, gently applying it to Evelyn's face and using his fingertips to spread it evenly, allowing the nourishing power of the Essence to fully penetrate her skin.

He had been taking care of Evelyn this way every day, constantly monitoring the changes in her injuries, fearful of any sign of deterioration.

  "Drink a little."

Ryan gestured for the Drake to gently lift Evelyn's upper body, then brought the crystal bottle filled with Mana Essence to her lips.

In the past days, because Evelyn couldn't swallow on her own, Ryan had to feed her directly mouth-to-mouth. It wasn't awkward for him, however, since the two of them had already shared similar contact before.

A flicker of resistance appeared in Evelyn's eyes. She subconsciously recalled the scene of Ryan feeding her that icy, sweet ice cream before, and her cheeks flushed slightly.

"Be obedient! Or your wounds won't heal."

Evelyn still hesitated, but Ryan's next words made her immediately relax and open her mouth.

"If you don't drink, then I'll have to feed you myself!"

Ryan's tone was firm as he poised to pour the Mana Essence into his mouth.

Seeing this, Evelyn quickly parted her tightly closed lips, though her movements carried a hint of shyness and embarrassment.

Ryan, however, seemed not to notice and maintained the pouring position. Only when Evelyn couldn't help but let out a small, shy"mm" did he stop.

Looking at her slightly parted lips, a trace of amusement flashed in Ryan's eyes, and he let out a soft chuckle.

He slowly tilted the bottle, poured an appropriate amount of Mana Essence, and only stopped once he saw Evelyn swallow successfully.

After drinking the Mana Essence, the painful expression on Evelyn's face gradually eased, and the tearing sensation in her skin was greatly relieved.

Her throat now moistened, she immediately activated the remaining magic within her body, using the Codex of the Primeval Frost to actively absorb the Mana Essence's energy and repair her damaged body.

Ryan extended his remaining right arm, gently pulling her into his embrace, holding her tightly as if afraid she might collapse.

Evelyn flinched slightly but did not resist. It wasn't that she didn't want to, but her current condition didn't allow for much movement.

She could only pretend to be indifferent, closing her eyes and silently operating the Codex of the Primeval Frost, focusing all her strength on restoring her body and mind.

The Drake looked at the two of them in slight confusion, then obediently returned to its spot to continue gnawing on the magic crystal.

Although it didn't fully understand the atmosphere between them, it knew not to interfere.

Ryan's actions weren't meant to take advantage of her. Given the current environment and Evelyn's injuries, this posture was the safest choice, even if it might seem odd to outsiders.

Ryan had no choice but to extend his arm to hold her, just to prevent her from falling.

That must be it, right? Absolutely!

Ryan didn't waste any time. While holding Evelyn, he began channeling his magic and meditating. Every bit of recovered mana was an extra layer of security. He needed to restore his vitality and strength as quickly as possible.

  Time passed slowly.

  "Do you remember now?"

After a long while, Ryan ended his meditation and just as he opened his eyes, he heard Evelyn's voice in front of him.

"No," Ryan replied in a low voice.

Evelyn was momentarily stunned by his concise answer. She painfully turned her head to face him, furrowing her brows slightly, her expression full of confusion.

"I never lost my memory," Ryan interrupted, his tone carrying a hint of guilt."I'm sorry, I lied to you."

After hearing Ryan's words, Evelyn suddenly let out a few quiet laughs. Her eyes instantly welled up, and her voice carried an unmistakable mix of sorrow and grievance.

She finally understood why Ryan had insisted on going to the Central Continent. From the very beginning until now, he had never lost his memory!

He had clearly come to the Central Continent to find his wife and child, yet he never told her. Was she really not worthy of trust in his heart?

A wave of bitterness surged through Evelyn. She struggled to sit up, but her movements were so weak they were barely visible.

Her fair hands pressed against Ryan's chest, trying to use her strength to lift herself, but her energy was too feeble. Even controlling her own mana was a struggle, making it impossible for her to break free from Ryan's embrace.

As for why her arms had healed completely, it was naturally thanks to Ryan.

The power of that Card of Supreme Luck was terrifying. It seemed to have foreseen the dire circumstances he would later face.

During that fateful lottery enhanced by fortune, he had drawn a bottle of Advanced Regeneration Elixir.

In addition, the lottery had awarded him a one-minute Invincible Defense Magic Card, a pair of Amethyst Earrings, and a pair of Fate Bracelets.

The injuries that Ryan and Evelyn suffered were the backlash of forcibly relying on external powers.

Ryan's trauma came from forcibly wielding the ultimate ice sword and forcibly raising his magic level.

Evelyn, on the other hand, had pushed herself to the limit while controlling the corpse of the Grand Magus, which left her in such a state.

Moreover, Evelyn's injuries were several times worse than Ryan's.

Ordinary potions could never have repaired such high-level backlash injuries, which was what frustrated Ryan the most.

Fortunately, he had drawn this bottle of Advanced Regeneration Elixir from the million-prize pool.

This was an advanced potion produced by Grimoire, and its quality was beyond doubt. The only regret was that there was only one bottle.

The situation was urgent, and Ryan didn't hesitate for a moment. He took out the potion and immediately fed it to Evelyn.

The situation had been so urgent that Ryan hadn't even had time to think. He immediately held the potion in his mouth and leaned down to feed it to Evelyn.

He watched with his own eyes as her broken arm gradually sprouted new flesh and fully healed under the effect of the Advanced Regeneration Elixir, and only then did his heart feel slightly at ease.

But in doing so, he no longer had any advanced potions left. He could only rely on meditation, slowly absorbing the mana from the world around him to recover his own injuries.

Even so, the Advanced Regeneration Elixir could only restore Evelyn's missing limb. It could not erase the blood-colored cracks on her body caused by the backlash of magic.

In fact, the fact that Evelyn could barely move at all right now was probably thanks to the elixir. Though it couldn't completely eliminate the backlash injuries, it had stabilized her life force.

"Let go of me!" Evelyn's voice was cold and sharp, clearly angered.

Her voice still carried a slight hoarseness, but it could not conceal the irritation behind it.

Ryan sighed helplessly. He knew better than anyone that this was not the time to provoke a woman. He loosened his grip on her arms just a little, allowing Evelyn to struggle and try to lift herself.

But the moment she gathered some strength to sit up, her body suddenly went soft and collapsed back into Ryan's embrace.

As if anticipating this, Ryan immediately extended his remaining right hand to hold her again, fearing she might fall to the ground.

The force of Evelyn's collapse was not small, and it hit directly against the wound on Ryan's body.

Though he had recovered somewhat over the past days, the instant the wound was touched, a sharp pain shot through him.

He could have endured it silently, but then he thought better of it and let out a pained cry.

  "Don't do that, it hurts."

Sitting on the ground, Ryan held Evelyn tightly, gritting his teeth as he spoke to her in a tone filled with discomfort.

Evelyn wanted to struggle again, but her movements were still weak and feeble, almost negligible.

"I shouldn't have come to save you." Evelyn turned her head and stared at Ryan, her eyes slightly reddening despite her determined gaze.

Seeing her like this, Ryan's heart skipped a beat. Evelyn seemed about to cry.

She had been deceived for so long, and the grievance that had built up in her heart could no longer be contained.

Ryan had never seen Evelyn shed tears. Even when her body had been covered in blood-colored cracks and she had endured extreme pain, she had not cried. Perhaps she had only cried in her childhood.

"I'm sorry," Ryan could only lower his head silently, repeating the words over and over.

He knew that a simple apology was too pale to make up for the deception, but at that moment, he could think of nothing else to say.

Whether it was because her injuries were too heavy or because she couldn't bear to see Ryan in pain, Evelyn did not struggle any further.

Both of them were lost in their own thoughts, remaining silent. The only sound around them was the small Drake gnawing on a magic crystal, which sounded unusually clear in the quiet room.

"Why did you keep lying to me?"

Eventually, Evelyn broke the silence first. Her voice trembled slightly. It was the question that had troubled her for so long, and she finally asked it aloud.

"I was afraid you would kill me," Ryan said.

Evelyn leaned against Ryan's arm. Hearing his answer, she was stunned. The anger and grievance in her eyes were instantly replaced by disbelief.
