Chapter 7: Harvey the Game Master of Earth

One would think that becoming a demi-god would have a strong impact on a person’s life. Harvey however already had practiced the mindset of a demi-god for years. That's all being a good Game Master was after all. Now he just had a larger canvas to work with and more stories to tell upon it. Harvey stretched his lower back and lamented that none of his newfound powers affected his health or youth.

At first Harvey had been a little concerned about Alexander. He didn’t jump into the role as quickly as he had hoped, but surely when the hazards coming his way revealed themselves an explosive heroic spirit would show itself. Alexander was the underdog that he was rooting for. His primary worry was the fact he only spent an hour a day even paying attention to his amazing powers! That hour was not, however, spent on how to get stronger.

“Seriously! Why are you looking for ways to charm your employees into working harder at some dumb corporate job!” he screamed at the monitor that showed the newly minted wizard.

Alexander was currently standing in front of the entryway doors to the Congo distribution center. He was staring at the doorframes, looking for a way to apply the charm spell to a glyph that would activate as people walk into the building. He was likely hoping to make people work harder during their first hour at work. Harvey looked into it to make sure it wasn’t some overpowered mind hack. He hated unbalanced abilities. Fortunately it didn’t look promising for the fledgling wizard. Alexander would likely give up and look for another spell combination.

Harvey turned back to pay attention to his other players. He had quickly tired of manually finding people to distribute classes upon, so he had set some basic parameters and automated the system's distribution for the rest of them. Not everyone would get a heroic class unfortunately. There simply weren’t enough slots—but the world needed NPCs as well. He made sure to set up some utility classes as well and he left some options open for the long term. It seemed there was an ability to open more hero slots and classes but he was unable to figure it out right now. Maybe after the others leveled up more.

For now he would content himself with populating the minor threats that the characters would first encounter. He looked forward to seeing the moments in which they would understand that things were different. The world was forever changed.

Harvey’s thoughts drifted back to Alexander and how sad his little life was. So he decided he needed a few chance encounters to pull him out of his comfort zone. As he moved to Alexander's profile he located the sliding bars under the ‘activities’ tab. He changed some of the probabilities for romantic, camaraderie, and combat encounter events.

“There… Alexander, your probability for boredom is now zero.”
