Episode 86

After class, Jihyeon headed straight to the scene. To an ordinary person, the loan shark's office would reveal nothing, but for Jihyeon, it would be a different story.

Yet, even as he moved, Jihyeon couldn't hide his irritation. Moving personally wasn't much of an issue; rather, the real concern was who had used a tool to move them. Jihyeon didn't view the loan shark's disappearance as a purely negative event. For him, it was an opportunity to find the trail of those distributing the tools. Of course, finding it would be no easy feat.

But Jihyeon was different from anyone else. He intended to draw out the full power of the tool within his body to gather every possible shred of information. Fortunately, the loan shark's office wasn't too far away. The police had already withdrawn, leaving the place feeling desolate.

  "Is this it...?"

Jihyeon felt a wave of unpleasantness just by approaching the building. Sensing that the equipment used to control tool users had been here, he felt an instinctive repulsion. However, he didn't mind this feeling. Repulsion leads to vigilance. Since Jihyeon used several tools himself, he visualized every conceivable booby trap.

Perhaps it was excessive worry. Jihyeon was always aware that because he knew too much, he displayed symptoms bordering on obsessive-compulsive disorder. But being cautious was never a bad thing—especially in a line of work where danger was a constant companion.

Walking from the bus stop, Jihyeon slowly activated the tool that neutralized CCTVs. Disappearing naturally from people's sight was always an interesting experience. After confirming that no one recognized him even when they turned their heads, Jihyeon cautiously entered the building. Naturally, the landlord had locked the office door and posted a warning sign against trespassing.

Jihyeon ignored it completely. Instead, he slipped inside carefully to find any lingering traces. Barring any extraordinary circumstances, no evidence of his visit would remain. With his presence fully concealed, he thoroughly examined the space where the office had been.

It was a vast, empty void. There were no signs that people had been working here until recently. However, Jihyeon's tool slowly began to extract information about those who had occupied the space. Unfortunately, a mere look-around didn't seem to provide much data. Jihyeon realized he needed to concentrate his consciousness further.

But the moment he thought that, he noticed the space in front of him shimmering.

  Danger.

His instinct screamed, and Jihyeon reacted instantly. If he had been even a second late, he might have died. A sharp attack passed through the exact spot where Jihyeon had been standing just a second ago.

It was the booby trap he had been wary of. Since he hadn't expected it to take the form of an assassin, the mental shock was significant. Yet, that was precisely why Jihyeon felt a surge of excitement. An entirely unexpected turn of events stimulated him.

  There were two opponents.

Emerging from the distorted space, the assassins appeared to have been waiting for their target without moving a muscle. As soon as Jihyeon arrived, they attempted an attack without a moment's hesitation.

Both assassins were equipped with identical gear. Goggles on their eyes, a tool that presumably controlled space in one hand, and a weapon to subdue the target in the other. Furthermore, the skintight bodysuits they wore likely enhanced their strength and defense. Every piece was a collection of cutting-edge technology that couldn't be found in this world.

They were likely living booby traps, prepared to kill Jihyeon should he come here—living robots robbed of their own will and commanded by another. Jihyeon’s imagination raced as he looked at their information, which even his own tool couldn't fully parse.

The assassins, who hid their information through tools, would likely try to subdue Jihyeon easily using physical abilities surpassing human limits. Though he felt no emotion from them, a chill ran down Jihyeon's spine. It would have been very dangerous if I hadn't prepared in advance.

Jihyeon let out a sigh and considered how to handle them. They were already twitching their weapons, ready to kill him, aiming for his neck or other vital spots at the first opening. First, after creating a shield with psychokinesis, Jihyeon re-examined the characteristics of his opponents.

Considering he was still using the tool to neutralize CCTVs, their goggles were likely seeing him clearly. That meant one of Jihyeon's cards was completely neutralized. Now, he would have to face them head-on without the luxury of hiding.

However, that wasn't particularly surprising. These were people who could play with space as they pleased; manipulating visible light was well within their grasp. Jihyeon already knew there was equipment that warned of those using CCTV-neutralizing tools. In fact, he had nearly been caught because of it before.

So, this was a danger within the expected range. If anything, he should be surprised they were using goggles rather than having their eyes replaced with artificial ones. Yet, wearing something over the eyes meant there was always a risk of being momentarily subdued by an intense burst of light. Jihyeon planned to target that weakness when necessary, as he quickly reviewed numerous possibilities to overpower them.

At the same time, if possible, Jihyeon intended to seize the tools they possessed. There was no room for hesitation now. If he could make their tools his own, it would surely be a great help for future tasks. He could use a space-control tool not only to hide himself but also to apply it in various ways.

Of course, the tools could be traps themselves. He had to consider various possibilities, such as booby traps or mechanisms to subdue him. But that was no reason not to collect them. Danger was Jihyeon’s constant companion. There was no reason to be afraid now.

Jihyeon concentrated. Grasping information coming from every direction surrounding him, he launched his attack. In times like these, physical force is most effective. Since he didn't know what abilities his opponents had, using the simplest method was the best course of action.

Before the opponents could react, Jihyeon used psychokinesis to lift one assassin entirely. Then, he threw him mercilessly toward the other assassin. There wasn't even time for them to swing an arm to block. The two assassins collided and were blown far away, just like in a game.

But that didn't mean the situation was over. They would surely stand up and regain their stance immediately. Before that, Jihyeon first seized the space-control tools both assassins possessed. Fortunately, while the sellers of the tools were inhumane, they hadn't gone as far as bonding the space-control tools to their hands. While such an act would be foolish if they considered recovery, humans could be capable of any cruelty if they crossed a line.

Regardless, Jihyeon recovered the space-control tools immediately. He didn't intend to use them right away, but he tucked them into his bag so the assassins couldn't use them. In the meantime, the assassins stood up. They seemed not to have fully grasped what had just happened to them. Perhaps it was because Jihyeon hadn't caught and thrown them with his own hands.

However, their failure to properly assess the situation was an opportunity for Jihyeon. Without hesitation, he drew upon the power of electricity and detonated a brilliant flash of light before their eyes. Simultaneously, he tried once more to seize the weapons from their hands. But this time, the attempt failed.

"You've got to be kidding me."

The weapons held by the two assassins were powered through wires. Such things couldn't be taken simply with psychokinesis. Jihyeon felt a flicker of annoyance at this unexpected development. But that didn't mean he couldn't subdue them.

He focused his mind and used psychokinesis again. This time, he targeted the moment they hadn't yet recovered and moved the hands holding their weapons toward each other. He aimed for the slightest gap, adjusting meticulously so as not to damage the opponent's body.

A gap just wide enough to reveal skin was enough. Jihyeon quickly sliced their bodysuits and delivered a powerful electric shock through the opening. He knew well that unless they were using a tool to increase durability, this would work without fail—provided the opponent was human.

However, Jihyeon soon realized he had made a mistake. The method he used was for neutralizing humans. But the enemy was not human.

  "A machine? That's impossible."

Jihyeon was shocked to see that what was visible through the gap in the bodysuit was metal. It seemed the other side intended to use the technology of that world unsparingly to kill him. Considering they had deployed two units, not knowing what one might do if left alone, it seemed their evaluation of Jihyeon was quite high.

  "Tch."

Jihyeon clicked his tongue. Realizing they weren't human, he lifted both assassins with psychokinesis without any hesitation. There was no need to waste energy on useless movements like swinging his arms. After all, moving weights similar to humans was easy with psychokinesis. Lifting them entirely, Jihyeon swung the assassins like weapons against each other.

The assassins' weapons were still active, ready to kill Jihyeon. Consequently, the two were carved into pieces by each other's weapons.

  "Phew..."

Jihyeon sighed as he looked at the two completely destroyed assassins. Of course, he didn't lower his guard. He didn't know how many more enemies might have been deployed to kill him. Fortunately, there were no more enemies. After confirming this, Jihyeon contacted the police immediately.

As he checked what he needed to take, he once again realized just how dangerous his enemy was.
