Episode 51

At first, they thought it was nothing.

One of the devotees simply wanted to see the Executive for a moment. But when the Executive, who usually reacted immediately, did not respond, the anxiety began to grow from there.

The devotee still thought that the first knock might have been unheard. Because a person can be like that when praying or concentrating on something.

However, when the Executive did not respond after several knocks, the devotees began to tremble with anxiety. They seemed to instinctively feel that something had happened.

  And the commotion began.

The devotees gathered outside the room chose chatter instead of silence. They couldn't stand it unless they poured out their anxiety because they didn't know what to do.

But they couldn't open the door.

They tried to force it open, but the door didn't open, as if something was heavily stacked inside. A locked door could be opened by a technician, but one that wouldn't open even when pushed was impossible to deal with.

  The devotees became frantic.

Currently, the top echelon of the cult consisted of the Deputy Leader, the General Manager, and the Executive. They were leading the cult in a precarious balance.

If even one of the three was missing, the cult was bound to shake.

So, the devotees could not accept any harm befalling the Executive. The situation had just barely recovered from the chaos following the Leader's sudden death.

No devotee was unaware of the fact that if chaos came again, only despair would remain.

So, they tried their best to open the door. But even with several men pushing with force, the door didn't open.

It looked as if the inside was blocked by something. And in a clever way, so that it couldn't be opened simply by force.

  The devotees became desperate.

If the worst-case scenario that they could imagine came true, they felt completely clueless about what would happen.

Claiming that such a thing must never happen, the hot-tempered devotees among them unhesitatingly brought axes.

Of course, some devotees tried to stop them, saying that was wrong, but it was just a brief commotion.

  Crash!

Fortunately, the Executive's door was made of wood, so it soon began to break when the axe was swung. But when they finally managed to break the door, they couldn't help but be shocked by the next obstacle in front of them.

They didn't know if it was a bookshelf or a closet. But whatever its identity, they clearly knew that they couldn't enter without breaking the new wooden obstacle.

  "Hurry up!"

This was definitely not an ordinary situation. The devotees quickly destroyed the obstacles and went inside, unable to be stopped by anyone.

Fortunately, the Executive seemed safe. But what awaited them was only an open window.

The culprit was nowhere to be seen. Although they were frustrated, they were simply bewildered that they couldn't find the person who caused this whole mess.

Relieved that the Executive was safe, they stared blankly at the chaotic state of the Executive's room.

Some devotees sat down and began to pray, and the more normal ones started to clean up the area. Others tried to wake the Executive.

But the Executive did not open his eyes despite the commotion around him, as if he were in a deep sleep. From then on, the chaos began again.

But the devotees had no idea that this was just the beginning.

There was no need to deal with the people. And Jihyeon had the ability to escape perfectly.

Therefore, he opened the window and escaped.

The Executive's room was quite high up, and if he fell, he could die instantly. But now, using the power of the tool that the Executive's first apostle possessed, he didn't have to worry about that.

  "Bye-bye."

Jihyeon said goodbye, just like a phantom thief in a movie. It didn't matter that no one would hear him.

In fact, falling from a great height was very dangerous. However, Jihyeon used the power of the apostle's tool nonchalantly to safely land on the ground.

He could have done it using the ability of the tool he originally possessed, but that would have been too conspicuous. A flashy rope of light was good to look at but terrible for covert action.

But the apostle's tool could use an amorphous force, much like telekinesis in a movie. Through it, Jihyeon was able to descend as if performing magic.

There were limits to its range and power, but it depended on how he used it. The power of the newly acquired tool was extremely useful to Jihyeon.

Using the power as if throwing a rope, Jihyeon safely descended to the ground. If someone had seen him slowly descending without any noise, they would have been surprised, but thanks to the tool that neutralized CCTVs, his presence was completely concealed, and no one noticed him.

All that remained was to return home, and Jihyeon headed to the bus stop to catch the bus home.

Fortunately, the bus arrived quickly, and sitting on a seat, Jihyeon reflected on the day's events.

He secured a lot of information and stripped the Executive of his power. That alone was a huge gain for the day.

But at the same time, Jihyeon felt that many new challenges had also arisen.

"A person's body really does have limits..."

Jihyeon muttered that, recalling the foreign object hovering somewhere inside his body.

It was the tool that could freely control fire. It was the source of the Executive's power and the tool that he couldn't make his own.

Although it existed inside Jihyeon's body, he couldn't use it at all. Because it hadn't become a part of his body like the apostle's, Jihyeon felt a great sense of incompatibility.

It felt like he had been forced to eat too much food. But he couldn't help it.

Since the time he took the Leader's tool as his own, Jihyeon had naturally assumed that he could absorb the otherworldly tools into his body.

But that seemed to be a mistake.

It might be inside his body for now, but he would have to remove it again. Otherwise, he felt he would have no choice but to live in discomfort.

"Should I look into it more..."

Jihyeon smiled bitterly, thinking of his first tool, which was still incomplete. Since he didn't have information about the world the tool came from, even if he knew about his current world, he couldn't help but feel inconvenienced at times like this.

Of course, it was unavoidable since he came here by accident, but Jihyeon still felt regretful about this subtle lack of information.

Still, it was fortunate that he had taken the enemy's power. That alone would significantly reduce the future threat.

Jihyeon recalled the moment he extracted the tool that gave the power to control fire from the Executive's body.

Jihyeon had intended to make it his own, just like when he absorbed the apostle's tool. However, it seemed that the human body also had a limit to what it could accept.

The bewilderment Jihyeon felt when he saw the words "Capacity Overload" pop up in his mind would be difficult to explain.

It felt like a game inventory screen. It seemed that an inventory existed inside Jihyeon's body to store what was usable and what was not.

He would have to look into this more. But that might be a task for later.

  "So much work..."

Jihyeon muttered, recalling the information he had obtained from the Executive after extracting the tool. Every piece of it was fatal to the cult.

There was a lot of information, including the cult's structure and the entities backing them.

However, those pieces of information wouldn't become his just by looking at them. Jihyeon felt a sense of hopelessness at the prospect of having to go through the long process of making all that information his own again.

But one thing he knew for sure.

Where his next destination was, and who the individuals Jihyeon had to face were.

Jihyeon was able to obtain information about the two adversaries—the Deputy Leader and the General Manager—as well as the apostles beneath them.

Of course, some of the information the Executive possessed was slightly inaccurate. But that was an unavoidable human limitation, and Jihyeon thought he could sufficiently fill in those gaps with his ability.

"Still... they've managed to grow this far, haven't they..."

Jihyeon expressed admiration while looking through the data. Jihyeon remembered all the data the Leader had, of course. But that was data from before her death.

The newly reborn cult that Jihyeon had to face now was full of things that even the Leader didn't know.

Only by knowing the enemy and knowing oneself can victory be achieved in battle.

Jihyeon steadily organized the vast amount of information he obtained this time. Although he couldn't use his full effort on the bus, quite a lot of information was sorted out in his mind.

"So, I have to try to catch the one behind those guys, huh..."

Jihyeon muttered, thinking of the entity at the center of the information he had uncovered. That entity might be related to the incident that changed Jihyeon's fate.

"By the way, I really wonder if this is okay."

An unnecessary anxiety arose in Jihyeon. The deeper he delved, the more a sense of risk kept warning his soul.

However, Jihyeon knew well that he was already no different from someone riding on the back of a tiger.

Jihyeon could not deny that once this level of power came into his hands, fate moved regardless of his will.

Even if he hadn't intervened in this matter, he would have undoubtedly been swept away by another wave of destiny.

Perhaps this incident was a good opportunity to get closer to the truth. A trial he had to go through eventually.

  "I should think positively."

Jihyeon muttered, as if trying to shake off the anxiety. Of course, fear continued to weigh him down. But thinking that he could definitely overcome it, Jihyeon got off the bus.

"You won't know unless you try."

Jihyeon continued to talk to himself, as if making a resolution. Still, today was a day when he gained a lot.

Putting off complex thoughts until tomorrow, Jihyeon walked towards his home.
