Episode 29

Spring was slowly approaching. His sister Jisu's college entrance process was successfully completed, and she was now a junior colleague at the same school.

His father's recovery was smooth, and his younger brother Jihyuk was enjoying a pleasant school life without any danger during his commute.

The people around who used drugs and caused trouble were no longer there. Since that day, intensive crackdowns had ensured that addicts did not attack civilians.

Jihyeon's information was provided to the police for this purpose.

Of course, very few people knew this fact, but all the credit went to the police. They simply let things end well without mentioning this part.

All that remained was a peaceful daily life. There were only smiles on his family members' faces now. Jihyeon was satisfied with that fact.

It was time to prepare for his return to school. The paperwork was done, and with the start of the semester, he would return to his normal life.

  Outwardly, at least.

After dinner and a shower, Jihyeon lay alone in his bed and thought quietly.

How much he had desired this peace! Although a hectic life awaited him in the future, he was extremely happy with the current situation, where nothing was happening.

Even if it was a very short vacation, being able to spend it peacefully was enough. He didn't wish for anything more.

Going to the gangster's office was a close call, but it was fortunate that the incident ended without anyone getting hurt due to the awakening, or perhaps the rampage, of his ability. Some might suffer psychological problems, but Jihyeon didn't want to worry about that.

What he should worry about was what would happen next. He left a warning, but thinking the gangster wouldn't report it to their boss was too naive.

For his safety, perhaps crushing them was the best option. However, a crime organization that was already established, unlike a cult, couldn't be solved just by crushing them.

If an established organization was forcibly crushed, others would rush in to take its place, only causing more confusion. Since Jihyeon was only one person, there was a limit to what he could do.

He wanted to be content with simply standing by at an appropriate level rather than forcibly escalating the situation. In fact, Jihyeon wanted to leave things to the police if they didn't provoke him.

But Jihyeon already knew well that things wouldn't go according to his thoughts.

At least he knew the gangster's boss was targeting him. Having secured information about their boss through the executive gangster's data, Jihyeon sensed it.

The fact that the boss would contact him in some way.

Annoyingly, the boss seemed to find him very interesting. Crushing the office was an action that damaged his pride.

However, the boss also seemed to think Jihyeon would be a useful tool if he could only be utilized.

That was not something Jihyeon liked. What the boss wanted was a good assassin, not a talent for legitimate work.

Were any of the people who did such things normal in the first place?

Moreover, if Jihyeon didn't bend to his will, the boss would clearly pour all his resources into orchestrating Jihyeon's downfall.

In other words, he would have to cut the shoot to eliminate the threat. People in that world, who prioritized unnecessary pride, would certainly do that.

The sense of crisis that if their pride was damaged, it was the end—that beast-like consciousness—was something fascinating to Jihyeon.

However, the fact that he couldn't understand it was not important. Jihyeon knew well that people could move regardless of his understanding.

More important than that was what he would do next.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

The boss, like a wild beast, valued his territory highly. He never forgave anyone who intruded recklessly. He was the type of person whose anger wouldn't be satisfied until he destroyed them, no matter what it took.

Jihyeon would probably be treated the same way. The boss would either make him his own or lead him to ruin. It was an instinctual act to remove a potential adversary.

If not immediately, he would probably move soon. Jihyeon was slightly wary of that.

Furthermore, there was one more thing that bothered him.

It was another violent faction. More precisely, the drug sellers. For Jihyeon, they were another threat.

This was especially true of the boss of the drug sellers.

After crushing the place where drugs were traded and securing information about the boss from the manager's head, Jihyeon grasped the nature of the man who might become his new enemy.

There was no need for a lengthy explanation.

The man who was the boss was cruel. And he had a much more organized system than the other boss. His financial power was also much stronger than the other faction.

However, he was only showing limitations because he couldn't resolve the manpower shortage with just that.

But the fact that he lacked people was only relative to the other boss's faction, and he was still a significantly sized force.

Jihyeon laughed at the thought that he might have to survive between the two factions. It was not a reaction to fear.

"It's great if they don't come, and if they do, I'll crush them. That's all there is to it."

Jihyeon muttered that. No matter how much he worried, he couldn't read the future anyway. He could only predict based on countless possibilities.

He could do nothing but consider the worst-case scenario even in times of peace. But being harmed unknowingly is different from being harmed knowingly.

While he was at it, Jihyeon began to prepare for the fight, establishing his own surveillance network with his smartphone.

There was a room filled only with expensive items. The owner of the room didn't consider overall harmony at all. It was a space that directly revealed the taste of a parvenu.

But every object filling the room was a trophy. If these valuable items, taken after crushing rival organizations, were displayed like this, the meaning changed.

  The victor.

The owner of this room was the victor of all past disputes. Putting his trophies on display like this was probably to intimidate visitors and showcase his strength.

The man called the Boss always conducted his business here. The traces of the defeated might be the driving force that moved him.

But now, he was not in a pleasant mood. Listening to the lawyer's report, his facial expression continuously revealed displeasure.

"An interesting story. There's a possibility. As always, it can happen."

The Boss muttered, listening to his lawyer's words. But his voice was filled with anger.

It was anger not about the fact that he suffered a loss, but about the fact that his pride was damaged.

"Anyway, since it was done so openly, I thought the police might raid us once. That's something I can put up with. But someone who isn't the police?"

The Boss's voice was not very loud. But it still had enough weight to fill the room.

The Boss's lawyer listened to his words without any change in expression. Cold sweat dripped down the lawyer's forehead.

"Of course, the punk could have used a special ability to mess with us. But what benefit does he get from that?"

The Boss asked the lawyer. The lawyer then quietly reported what he had investigated.

"His family was recently attacked by a drug addict. Although there was no actual damage, he might have a grudge against drug sellers."

At the lawyer's words, the Boss laughed. The dry, emotionless laughter was a mix of absurdity and admiration.

"If what you think is correct, then it's quite an interesting thing. A man might do that much. In a way, one might even say he has a big ambition."

The Boss said that. But the admiration was brief. Soon, he spewed anger. The cold, quiet voice, filled with murderous intent, clearly indicated one thing.

"If that punk is really the one who messed with us, kill him. Start with his family, and systematically kill everyone around him."

The Boss said that, smiling a twisted smile. It was the look of someone anticipating the moment his enemy would be ruined.

"Is there any reason to let a bastard who harmed me live? Especially when I've invested so much effort. I'd lose face if I let a guy like that live. And the loss is a loss, too."

The Boss spoke as always. What was important to him was his own profit. And those who interfered with it were all enemies and targets to be killed.

Of course, depending on the situation, it was possible to just cripple them instead of killing them. But this time, he felt that his anger wouldn't be satisfied unless he killed him.

  "Understood."

The lawyer replied as always. Everyone who incurred his wrath met a miserable end. He would simply do what he had to do, pushing his personal curiosity aside.

However, the lawyer was bothered by something. It was about what would happen if the opponent was stronger than expected.

A person capable of crushing a place with multiple fighters alone would by no means be ordinary.

If he could use the power that flowed from that other world, the story would change.

In that case, the organization's ordinary forces would be no match for him. But perhaps that was going too far.

After all, this was only in the realm of hypothesis, wasn't it? Moreover, it wasn't even confirmed that the man called Jihyeon was the real culprit.

  "We shall see."

The lawyer muttered as he left the Boss's room. For a man who always coldly followed his owner's orders, doubt only held meaning when trying to grasp the owner's inner thoughts.

He didn't need to pay excessive attention to anything else. Yet, he couldn't completely erase his human curiosity.

"I need to check a bit more first."

Preparing for the what if was always important. It wasn't strange, considering the countless battles in the courtroom.

Moreover, if by any chance the man named Jihyeon truly had a connection to that side, then there was enough reason to acquire him, even if it meant disobeying the Boss's order.

"In any case, I need to look into it."

The Boss's lawyer said that and slowly walked to his office. His steps looked somewhat heavy.

It was as if he unknowingly sensed the weight of the events about to unfold. Although he didn't realize it himself, everything had already started moving.
