Chapter 60. Brewing

The day kept going as normal with the Castro family training, slowly getting better at their respective weapons. As the end of the day came, Milagros entered the gym together with an old man.

“Hello everybody, I would like to introduce you to Claudio Vega. He is a brewer that decided to move here and teach Amelia.”

“Hello, I’m Emilio. Nice to meet you,” Emilio greeted him. “May I know what you are going to do with the Trials?”

“Nice to meet you Emilio. I tried it twice and couldn’t get a single Stat point. I believe it is better to make ties with you than keep trying my luck. I will just miss one Trial to move here,” Claudio explained.

“As long as you know the consequences, I guess that is your choice. Mili what are we doing about the schedule?” Emilio asked.

“I was hoping she would learn between 6 and 8. Is that good Ami?”

Amelia doubted a little before answering, “It is not that I can’t, but I would have no more free time.”

“Can I join her?” Victoria asked, making everyone look at Claudio who was going to be the teacher.

“I have no problem with having an extra student.”

“Gabi, what do you say?” Milagors asked, “It is your daughter and we are talking about alcoholic beverages.”

“I don’t think I have much of a choice here,” she admitted. “If I don’t let her I would not hear the end of this, but she is not allowed to drink.” A few moments later she added, “and I expect my free samples.”

Victoria celebrated and Amelia visibly relaxed at this conclusion, making everyone realize that she didn’t want free time, but to spend time with her friend.

“Then I have no problem with this schedule,” Amelia agreed.

When Emilio saw the two girls that were going to learn together he decided to intercede. “Claudio, if they are making it hard for you, just let me know.”

“Don’t worry, it will actually be fun to teach two teenagers. I always wanted to have kids, but cupid didn’t have any arrows left for me.”

“Does that mean that you came here alone?”

“That is actually one of the reasons we could convince him,” Milagros explained.

“Then I think you would really like joining our training club during the day,” Emilio invited him.

“Even if I have normal Stats?”

“Do you think everyone in our families has good Stats? It is good for everyone to train.”

“For the record, I do think everyone in your family has good stats,” Milagros commented.

“We are just lucky, that’s it.”

“I think I am beginning to understand Tuor’s comments on your luck. On another subject, we will be working all night in bulletproofing the gym to the best of the possible standards.

“We have been allowed to do all the tests we need. Tomorrow you will be able to shoot any bullet you want here and after your shift we will try better weapons with the dummy. The public broadcast streamlined the government permits. We will also have the police on the door to prevent people from calling them.”

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

“Does that mean that I will be working with the people who got the dummy?” Claudio asked.

“That’s just the tip of the iceberg. Emi, I need you to sign the standard contracts with him.”

“Sure, no problem,” Emilio agreed. “If you join us for dinner I will let you know all you need. Maybe your decision to skip one Trial was a good one, now that I think about it.”

After signing the contracts, everyone left for their own ways. Before leaving, Milagros told him that the next morning he should go to a hospital instead of the office. Everything would be arranged for him, and he would actually heal wounds that actually matter.

Once the clock reached six o’clock, Amelia and Victoria went to Claudio’s new house. It was in the same block of Emilio’s own house and had already been arranged to be a brewery.

One might think Emilio would be worried for the two girls that went to a stranger’s house. But in reality, they couldn’t be safer. Not only had Claudio signed Soul Contracts with Emilio, but both girls had emergency Soul Contracts signed. Even if that was not the case, Amelia was the strongest superhuman in the world. There was no way for them to be in any kind of danger.

Having a few hours of free time, Emilio decided to take a shower and use the rest of the time to watch some TV, something that he had not done since the integration, well except for the broadcasts.

Emilio pondered on where his time went and he realized that he did spend a lot of time in the Monolith or unconscious. If one goes by the time standards, he was working more than normal, but that was also compensated by sleeping less. Once he managed to stop passing out regularly he might have some normal free time, even with the planned overtime.

After enjoying some relaxing free time, Emilio joined dinner with all of the team that was slowly being built around him and Amelia. Claudio decided to join them too and he got bombarded with a bunch of information about the people he was going to be working with. After knowing more about them, he was convinced he made the right choice in joining them instead of having an extra Trial.

After dinner, Emilio left for the office. Given that he was by himself he went running, something that was faster than taking a car.

When he met with Noel, he verified several times that he was fine after passing out the night before and then the important people started coming.

Knowing the number of contracts he could do, they defined that he was going to make contracts with 20 people per day, that would make 80 contracts. It was a big number, but not close to his limit.

The very first person of the day was the same minister that was there when he passed away. Now that he was in his right mind, Emilio actually recognized him and was quite ashamed by how he behaved the previous day.

He apologized, but the minister actually didn’t care. This showed the importance of his newest Skill, and showed that he was considered important even without his high Stats.

Not only that, every single person he met wanted to talk with him and make an impression. They were some of the most influential people in the world, many of them summoned from other countries and all of them traveled in private jets to sign these Soul Contracts and have access to high level information. These were the kinds of people that wanted to network with him.

He didn’t want to spend too much time with them as he didn’t like politics, but they were the ones who were going to contribute with the ideas and technology for the deal with Tuor and it was really important to start with the right foot.

Interacting with them was exhausting in a different way than the previous day. He was meeting a lot of important personalities, all of them wanted to keep him in his good tabs and no one had high airs around him.

They all knew the importance of something as a Soul Contract where you can know for sure if the other party broke the deal and there was no need to prove anything. Even the possibility of Emilio lying about what happened was eliminated with a single contract that does not allow him to lie. He was basically the perfect way to generate trust between parties.

Even if he got delayed talking with almost everyone, Emilio was able to finish all of the contracts. By the end, he felt some kind of pressure on his head, but nothing compared to the previous day, which meant he was able to go back to his house for the night.

For the first time in almost a week, he could spend the night in his bed and he would not let this chance go to waste. He went straight to his room, where he picked the book he was reading. With all of the mess that was happening he was not able to read as much as he wanted, but he didn’t want to stop reading just because of the System. If this is his new life, he just has to make time to read in this new environment.

  Thanks for reading!
