Chapter 10. Wound.

The next day, Emilio woke up early in the morning. Even though he only slept for a few hours, his Vitality made him feel completely rested. As he waited for Amelia to wake up he started thinking about what he was going to do in the next few days.

Tuor had advised him to focus on getting stronger. There was also going to be some kind of trial or tribulation for the whole planet and he had to be ready to face it. It was also reasonable to think he was going to have to fight. If it was not like that, the System would not have provided weapons for everyone.

With that reasoning, he had a priority above all else. He had to learn how to use his daggers and there was no time like the present to do it.

Emilio dressed up and wore his new belt that held both weapons. Once he was ready he went to his backyard to start training. His main objective was to get used to wielding the daggers.

In the middle of the backyard, Emilio took both daggers and started to think about how to train with them. He decided that a good way to train was to imagine enemies coming at him and try to defend himself by slicing or stabbing them. The only issue was that he had never used a weapon. He didn’t even know the basis of self defense.

Once Emilio started to move with his completely improvised movements, it didn’t take long for an accident to happen. As he lowered the left Void to attack an imaginary enemy, his right arm was in the way and he ended up with a cut on his right arm.

The pain came immediately and made him drop the right Void. That was the moment Emilio realized just how stupid he was. It was definitely not a good idea to try to use sharp daggers when he had no idea what he was doing. All it took for him to realize was a bleeding wound on his arm.

Doing his best to resist the pain, Emilio sheathed the left Void and evaluated the wound. He sighed when he saw just how much damage he had done himself.

The wound went all the way to the bone and was bleeding a lot. As he was about to leave for the hospital, he realized something weird was happening inside his Body.

On the Trial, Emilio had learned to feel his Vitality and at that very same moment he could feel that the energy was moving, focusing on his arm.

Emilio decided to hold back for a minute and analyze what was happening on his body. As he focused on the arm, he noticed his wound was slowly healing. It was not too fast, but not too slow either. This kind of wound should normally take weeks or months to heal, even after stitches. But with the way things were going it wouldn’t take more than a few hours.

This is awesome, it should be the Regeneration skill.

Emilio reached the conclusion that his newest Skill was responsible for what was happening. He also remembered something the shopkeeper mentioned.

The Skills given by the System were supposed to be a way to teach him what he can do. If it was like that, he could maybe try to learn what was happening with his arm. Emilio decided to focus on his moving Vitality.

He could feel the energy stored in his blood, and he could vaguely understand that it was being focused in his arm. He could also feel that he was losing Vitality with the blood he was losing, after all it was inside the blood.

Emilio did his best with his left hand to hold the wound closed, if it was healing at a fast rate, then it might work as stitches and make him heal faster.

He was right in what he did and after a few minutes went by the bleeding had completely stopped. There was a crust formed in the wound that protected it and he had stopped losing his Vitality needlessly.

Emilio kept focusing on the wound. After the crust formed it started to heal even faster. The Vitality was being used in the wound as he healed, but a little bit was still in the blood as it continued with its flow.

Emilio also realized that the Vitality inside his body was slowly dropping, but it was being regenerated by his heart. The amount he recovered was less than what he spent, but as soon as he finished healing his arm, he would be able to recover the spent Vitality.

When Emilio realized about the expenditure, he remembered his other Skill:

I might be able to use it here too.

Emilio started focusing first on the regeneration part of the Skill. As he focused on regenerating Vitality, the amount that his heart produced increased by several times. It was even more than the amount consumed by the Regeneration Skill.

After realizing that both Skills could work well together, Emilio decided to try the other aspects of the Focus Vitality Skill. He first focused on decreasing the consumption of Vitality, but he realized that it also slowed the healing process.

Well if it works like this, can I also increase it?

As he focused on increasing the consumption, the amount of Vitality left in his blood after passing over the wound became almost null and the wound started healing even faster.

Given that there was no Vitality leftover on his blood, Emilio realized that the bottleneck was the amount of Vitality that was going to his arm, so he focused on increasing it.

Once he changed his focus, the Vitality heading to his wound increased, but he also lost the focus on higher consumption and the wound started to heal slower again.

So I have to balance all aspects, and even multi-task to be productive in healing. Emilio realized. After which he focused on trying to optimize his healing using all of the aspects of his Focus Vitality Skill. In about half an hour he had already healed his arm. He had healed a wound that went to the bone in less time than what it would have been the waiting time in the hospital.
