DMS Chapter 4
“Were there any records of anyone escaping and returning to where they came from?” James asked.
Hector smiled sadly.
“Every time a new batch of slaves came in, the first thing they would ask was if there was any possibility that we could return to our planet but according to the veteran slave that taught me and the veteran slave that taught her, there were no records of anyone escaping even to the other parts of this planet much less back to their own planets. I don’t know if that was true, but in the ten years I’ve been here, all the slaves that came with me either were still here or died here, and I knew since the wizards always showed everyone the bodies of those that died and usually their slave partners would know the situation why it happened and it was almost always against a dungeon monster. I’m not sure why the wizards do it, but I’m guessing it was to take any hope from us that we can escape.”
Hector paused a bit and distributed a loaf of bread and two skins of water to Flinx and James.
“Now let’s talk about our system, and then we’ll talk about how we can fight the dungeon monsters so we can mine the mana stones. Just follow what I’m going to tell you, okay? To open the system, you can say or think of the word “System Menu,” and it will open what looks like a browser. The browser contained four tabs. The first tab will contain information about yourself, like your level, the experience points needed for you to level up, which was locked by our collars, and the search field, which would allow you to browse the internet on Earth, which was truly a gift since that allowed us to survive, since we have access to a tremendous amount of entertainment.”
Flinx and James looked flabbergasted. When Flinx tried to access the most famous red streaming video site and he easily accessed it without any problem. Then he focused and listened to what Hector was saying.
“Now, since we have access to the internet, all of us communicated on the internet that we transmigrated here on this planet and that we were enslaved, but as you can expect, nobody believed us or treated us as some sort of role-players or crazies.”
Hector then said that they must think that having access to something that would allow us to communicate with each other was a huge advantage and they did have a forum for all of the Earthling slaves that they used to communicate and that in the past, it allowed the Earthlings to plan a revolt but the insurrection only happened once and it caused the demise of three-fourths of the slaves from Earth when it happened.
At least with the first tab, they could still watch shows and movies and inquire about their loved ones, which, in Hector's opinion, was a mistake because it caused some of the slaves to become insane.
Flinx thought of the first tab and the things they could do with it, which was truly large, but the fact was, even if people on Earth believed them, they had no magic that would allow them to assist the slaves in transmigrating back to Earth.

Hector then continued explaining the system menu, which according to him, all the information was also available in the system menu as well. He said that the second tab consisted of the site where they could purchase the spells they could use, but since their system was locked by their collars, they were stuck at level 1 of the profession they received and would only have access to up to three of the level 0 spells or skills.
Hector explained that everyone was stuck with three level 0 slots and that spells could only be purchased using mana stones. He then provided three mana stones each to Flinx and James, but told them to hold off on buying any of the level 0 spells until he was finished explaining things. He then told both of them the possible professions an Earthling would receive, like Wizards, Druids, Clerics, and more.
Flinx briefly checked his profession and saw that it was a Wizard. Which was the same as Hector’s. James received the Druid Profession.
Hector then told them that the slaves from Earth were stuck mining the level 1 up to level 2 dungeon caves, and that meant that the Earthlings were only able to mine level 1 mana stones. The lower-level dungeons were being mined by other slaves from other dimensions.
He told them that the Earthling was assigned to the topmost dungeon because the wizards didn’t want to increase the slaves from Earth’s access to the higher-level spells from their system. Most of the veteran slaves believed that the wizards of this dimension were afraid of the power of the system from Earth, which was why Earthlings were relegated to the topmost dungeon levels.
“Are you saying that the other slaves from different dimensions had a different system?” Flinx asked, and Hector simply nodded, then continued with his explanations.
“Since our collars locked our system, we can only click the list of level 0 spells. The third tab would have been wonderful if we had access to it, which was a copy of the most famous shopping site on Earth. In that tab, we would have been able to purchase all the products from Earth as long as you have enough mana stones, but since it was locked by the collar, we could only dream of the items that we saw there.”
Hector stopped and checked something on his system, and then he told them both that it was time for lunch. They started eating the bread that he had distributed to Flinx and James earlier. Flinx was surprised that the bread was delicious, and Hector told them that the food provided by the wizards was enough for them to work continuously.
“What kind of food do the wizards provide?” James asked while they were eating lunch.
“Mostly bread, but during dinner, there would be some meat. You don’t need to worry since I know meat, and they came from mostly goats and sheep,” Hector answered.
“Are you not tired of eating the same thing for years?” Flinx asked.
“That question will be answered by our next discussion,” Hector said, so after lunch, their discussion continued.
“Are any of you familiar with the most famous tabletop role-playing game?” Hector asked.
“I’ve read a lot of books from the Forgotten Realms and Dragon Lance franchise, and the magic system that you’ve been telling us seemed to be based on that franchise. I saw the site where we can purchase the spells, and I’m familiar with it as well, so to answer your question, even though I haven’t played the games, I’m a little familiar with them,” Flinx said while James shook his head, saying that he mostly read Science Fiction, which answered why James recognized Flinx’s name.
“I recommend that you familiarize yourself with it, then use the internet, since our spells are based on the said franchise, but most of the rules were different. If you want to know those differences, you can explore the forum that was created by one of the slaves here,” Hector said, then he gave them the name of the website address where they could go in their spare time to read the information that the slaves had posted.
