14 - Little Girl Wakes Up

Within that same month, Eric visited the sleeping princess a number of times but failed to wake her up. So, in the end, he gave up and completely forgot her existence, and the 'Mind Space' entirely- since there was nothing else to see there.

At present, due to being in a similar dark room, Eric suddenly recalled the little girl’s existence and wondered if she was still waiting for a prince or had already found one and was currently living happily together within his dark mind.

Eric hesitated on whether he should make further contact with that girl or not.

Sadly, there was nowhere else he could run off to, either, as it was within his mind. In any case, he would just die once more if something went wrong, and the girl might take over his body or something. He wasn’t too bothered with either outcome, at most, maybe he just needed to make some extra space to accommodate another person within the same body.

Eric closed his eyes and focused. Soon, without any problem, he entered his Mind Space, almost as simply as if he had just walked into a new room.

As soon as Eric entered, he was surprised because his physical body’s pain had completely disappeared. No, he could still feel the terrible condition his real body was in, but he was no longer affected by it, as if there was a huge distance between them.

He unexpectedly discovered a new hack, though not too useful, as he never minded pain. He was always indifferent toward his own pain, even in his past life.

Eric soon found the girl and was as speechless as four or five years ago.

The girl had also grown up and now looked no different from his current age and height. She had much longer hair than he did, and he had to agree that this girl was another beauty in the making, just like Lyria and Livy.

He first tried his usual gentle way of waking the girl up through vulgarities, but as expected, nothing happened. So he decided to leave, as he was not in any hurry to wake the girl up. Even if the girl never woke up, nothing would really change in his life.

Just as he was about to leave, he paused.

Unlike a few years ago, he was a lot stronger at this moment.

Eric took a deep breath and used his entire strength to deliver a full-blown punch to the invisible coffin.

He expected that it wouldn’t break, as the coffin was odd, not like the usual wooden coffin but more like a natural shell of the girl. But unlike what he had expected, the coffin cracked like glass. Soon, the crack spread out and covered the entire invisible coffin, and like shattering glass, it dissolved into the nothingness of Mind Space.

Eric was once again left speechless.

He then noticed that even after the girl's shell fell apart, the girl was still in deep sleep.

Eric glanced at her and thought that he might as well wake her up completely and understand their current situation better, instead of just delaying the inevitable.

He half-knelt and lightly tapped on the girl’s cheek. "Wake up, little princess. Your toad prince is here to wake you up." He paused and sternly warned, "But do not expect any kiss!"

Eric thought she might need a strong slap on her fair cheek to wake up completely, but then he noticed her long black eyelashes trembling. Slowly, she opened her eyes and stared straight at Eric in confusion and innocence.

Eric too stared straight into the girl’s eyes and was completely sucked into their bright blue depths.

The girl also had eyes similar to his. He knew his eyes were quite unique compared to any other blue eyes he had seen or heard of, they were a bit like glowing crystals. Anyone who stared at them would definitely feel a strange, mesmerizing pull, though the effect wasn’t magical; it was mainly due to their natural beauty.

He was already used to his own eyes in reflection and no longer found them too unusual. Perhaps, in this world, they weren’t too unusual either as he had just seen two more pairs of gorgeous eyes that very same day.

Eric wondered if the girl in front of him was actually his unborn twin sister. It was possible, as he felt a strange connection with her and there were also other similarities they shared.

It was very likely that he had completely sucked up their mother's entire energy and let his poor twin sister die, and that was why she decided to live inside his mind.

Oh my, such a tragic story…

All these are fine, but she better pay rent!

Since the girl was awake, she better first answer all his questions before they discuss the rent issue.

"Alright, little girl, don’t expect this 'Papa' to hug you. Now start explaining what entity you are and why you’re sleeping inside my mind," Eric made it very clear that he was not going to take any responsibility for being a father.

The girl didn't answer and just stared at Eric, as if she had fallen in love with him.

Just as Eric felt a cold chill run down his back, the girl leaped forward and hugged him tightly.

Eric was completely stupefied. This was the second time he had been ambushed in a similar fashion by a girl of similar age in a single day!

Just as he wondered if he also needed to tickle the girl to leave his pure body alone, she slowly parted from the hug and smiled sweetly at him. Then, without saying anything, she sat cross-legged and closed her eyes to meditate.

Eric gaped at the situation. The girl had woken up, assaulted him, refused to take any responsibility, and started meditating!

He stared blankly at the girl for a long time, while her face was just a few inches away from his.

In the end, he didn't have the heart to disturb her. In his past life, he had been a consistent yoga practitioner, meditating without missing a single day for over a decade until his death. He had always expected others- whether tiger, human, or ghost, not to disturb him during meditation, and he could never bring himself to disturb someone else’s practice.

After a while, with the girl’s eyes still closed as if she were in deep meditation, Eric finally gave up and slowly stood.

He would talk to her when she finished whatever meditation technique she was performing.

Eric then returned to his body and quickly fell into a deep sleep.

Lyria slowly opened her eyes. It was morning, and the sunlight was already shining brightly through the open window.

She slowly sat up and looked around. Livy was still asleep on her bed. Normally, Livy always clung to her while sleeping, but yesterday they hadn’t had time to connect their beds together.

She noticed her entire body still felt extremely sore and heavy, but otherwise, she had largely recovered and could still move around.

Just as Lyria put her foot on the floor, she was hit by intense hunger, which jolted her fully awake.

She quickly left her bed and shook Livy by the shoulder to wake her.

Lyria didn’t consider whether Livy had recovered enough. They were in an unknown place, not at home, where no one cared if they slept all day. They needed to show their faces around, or people would think they were living like princesses in an orphanage.

After Livy woke up, she was also hit by an extreme hunger pang.

Lyria first dragged Livy to the washroom to freshen up, then they dashed downstairs to find something to eat.

It was already 9 AM; breakfast was just ready, so Lyria and Livy quickly dove in.

They ignored all the workers staring at them as if they were wild, starving animals who hadn’t eaten for weeks, focusing only on shoving food into their mouths.

Most of the workers had already seen Lyria and Livy, so they no longer stared rudely at them due to their vastly different looks compared to Ringwood Town folks.

While Lyria and Livy were filling their stomachs, Hannah came and sat beside them.

Hannah didn’t say anything and waited for both girls to finish their breakfast. After they were done, Hannah asked with concern, “How are you girls feeling? Yesterday, I thought I lost all three of you.”

Lyria and Livy blushed in shame. What had happened yesterday was a mistake. They had completely lost their senses, mainly because they were having so much fun and got so engrossed in the battle that they forgot about everything else, including their own well-being and the fact they had long surpassed their limits.

Lyria quickly apologized, “We are sorry for causing so much trouble to you, Big Sister Hannah. We won’t let anything similar happen again. And thank you again for rescuing us. We are much better now.”

Livy quickly nodded in agreement with what Lyria had just said.

Hannah chuckled at Lyria's still-polite tone. “Don’t bother with 'Big Sister'- just 'Sister' will do. Neither of you needs to be so formal with anyone in this orphanage. Consider them your friends; they are all very kind. Too much politeness will just make you girls seem like outsiders.”

Seeing Lyria and Livy nod their heads, Hannah explained her reason for visiting at that moment: “House Mother has summoned both of you to her office.”

Hearing Bella Noll was calling for them, both Lyria and Livy tensed up. They were extremely alarmed in their hearts.

The old lady was very kind, but who knew? She might have suddenly felt they were too troublesome and decided to cast them out. If so, they were finished!

There was nowhere else they could go. Maybe they would starve to death on the streets, or perhaps they would have to live in the forests from then on, hunted by wild animals day and night.

Watching Lyria and Livy's doll-like faces grow paler and paler, Hannah laughed. “What are you girls thinking? Don’t worry, she won’t scold you. She has never scolded any children before. She’s probably calling both of you for other reasons, maybe to ask if you’ve faced any inconveniences, and so on.”

Lyria and Livy calmed down upon hearing Hannah’s assurance, but they were still panicking inside.

They quickly nodded to Hannah and promptly left for Bella Noll’s office on the second floor.
