2. Assignment

The morning sea breeze is cool. Kieran Vale arrives at the designated location, a popular tourist spot surrounded by many restaurants, but it is not yet business hours, and all the shops are tightly locked.

He sits down on a bench by the roadside, from where he can clearly see the activity at the dock. Oliver's private yacht is moored at the shore, and there are many boats belonging to yacht rental companies nearby. The morning dock is very quiet, with hardly anyone in sight except for a few workers and homeless people.

Around ten o'clock, he sees a few figures appearing in the distance. They are approaching the dock, a total of four people: three men and one woman. Kieran recognizes one of the men as his target.

“I see the target... ” Kieran transmitted the scene before him to Sabrina for confirmation once again.

“It's definitely him. Is your hiding place safe? Are there any other people nearby?”

“There are blind spots here. I can see them, but they can't see me... ” Kieran's eyes were fixed on the target. “There are no dangerous individuals nearby, just a few ordinary people.”

During the execution of the mission, the most important thing is to remain discreet, especially to avoid being discovered by “the same kind.” Logically, the chance of encountering someone of the same kind in this place is lower than being hit by a meteorite. If, unfortunately, that happens, it often means— their deeds have been exposed.

The worst-case scenario is being targeted by hostile forces. To avoid conflict with them, one can only retreat temporarily.

Fortunately, since he started his journey in the world, he has never encountered hostile forces. According to Sabrina, the organization's enemies are mainly from the Order of Solace. However, since the death of their last leader, they have been silent for decades.

Perhaps they really have no one left. Kieran is unclear about what happened decades ago; after all, he wasn't born then, and the organization's members are completely different from now.

That young tycoon. He wore a casual shirt, had blonde hair and blue eyes, and a well-proportioned figure, making him perfect in terms of appearance. This man exuded the aura of a victor, making it hard for anyone to overlook him.

Overall, he is a healthy man, intelligent and cheerful, with a vibrant aura primarily displaying shades of blue, green, and gold, smooth and rounded on the outside, without any sense of damage, sharpness, or impurity.

But he is about to die soon.

That woman should be his partner; her gaze is almost entirely fixed on Oliver. Even without observing her aura, it is clear that she is in love. As for the other two men, they are just ordinary friends, with nothing noteworthy about them.

They four chatted and laughed all the way to the dock. When they arrived, the two male friends boarded the boat first, with one of them entering the cockpit. Then, Oliver took his partner's hand and helped her onto the boat.

Oliver was the last to board. He untied the ropes and jumped onto the boat with a light step.

His partner grasped his hand, and Kieran felt his heart race. The sound of the engine starting echoed, and he saw the coronary arteries pumping blood to the heart.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

Then, the blood suddenly stopped flowing, as if the vessels were being squeezed. The blood still tried to break through the blockage; the man was still struggling, but unfortunately, at that moment, he had lost control of his body. His body had betrayed him, obeying a higher law. The blood flowing to the heart diminished, and the heart muscle gradually necrosed due to lack of oxygen.

If there were "kindred" nearby, he would clearly see the glow in his palm, a glowing thread shooting from his palm to Oliver's heart.

The human body is a coordinated complex system, where organs cooperate with each other, and cells, as the basic units, obey certain rules. Each species has its own rules, and cells operate in an orderly manner under these rules, maintaining the functions of the human body.

The human body and consciousness intertwine and influence each other, like an instrument and the person playing it, collaborating to compose a melody called "life."

But now, in Oliver, this cooperation was disrupted; the will of Kieran Vale had replaced Oliver's.

Oliver suddenly collapsed, and his female companion let out a terrified scream. The boat, which was about to set sail, came to a halt.

The two male friends rushed over, but Oliver had already lost consciousness. No matter how they called out to him, he did not respond. His heart seemed to shake uncontrollably, then it stopped.

His breathing and pulse had stopped, and his skin had taken on a deathly gray and bluish hue.

This was his most commonly used method, allowing a person to leave the world in the shortest time possible without enduring too much pain.

  ‘I solved it ...’

Kieran Vale watched as the ambulance whizzed by, and the crowd around him gradually grew. The tourists were in high spirits, and the brief commotion quickly subsided, fading from people's sight.

‘Alright, once we confirm his death, we will pay you immediately.’ Sabrina's voice was steady and devoid of any emotion.

Kieran knew this was just a routine procedure; he had never failed.

How much reward could he actually receive? When he was still naive about money, he only knew that completing a mission could cover his and his father's expenses for the entire year.

At first, he handed all the money to his father, but when he saw that most of it was spent on indulgences, he decided to hold back and only give his father the amount needed for living expenses.

His father never cared where the money came from, as long as they could still pay the bills and not run out of resources, life could go on peacefully.

The organization had a special account for him to withdraw from, with a substantial balance, but he hadn't figured out how to use it yet. Perhaps one day, he would leave his father and live on his own.

As noon approaches, the restaurants near the dock gradually open for business, and tourists wander the streets in small groups. Even though it is not a holiday, the pace of life in this town remains leisurely and slow.

He was sitting on a bench by the street, next to a sleeping homeless man. Despite being underage, he still exuded a sense of childishness, and his lack of vitality made him look like a homeless child. In fact, he wasn't far from that; he truly didn't want to go home, but he also didn't know where to go, so he just sat there in a daze, or quietly observed the crowd.

Most people didn't pique his interest because they were mediocre, boring, and had nothing appealing about them. Humans are inherently flawed, and there aren't many like Oliver who possess a perfect aura.

This was why he didn't like to get close to people; he didn't want to be tainted by their murky and dirty auras.

But occasionally, there would be "special" individuals in the crowd, usually children. These individuals were often the focus of organizations; they were like precious raw gems, full of infinite possibilities. If a potential person wasn't discovered in childhood, as they grew older, they would either regress or be polluted, becoming mediocre and completely buried in the crowd.

Among the tourists, there were quite a few families, and sometimes he would attract the attention of children, who stared at him as if he were an animal in a zoo.

Kieran didn't dislike that innocent, curious gaze; only children living in happiness would have such eyes.

They were well protected and knew nothing of true darkness and evil. They had the complete love of their parents, something he had never had.

He often pondered whether God truly existed. In any case, this world tolerated his existence, and when he took the lives of others, he felt an overwhelming sense of power.

Perhaps this is what it feels like to be a god.

Kieran Vale got up from the bench; the afternoon sun was warm, and the sea breeze brought a pleasant scent. He remembered that he needed to go to the supermarket.
