PoR Ch. 25

Arata went along with Clemence's machinations. Back at her office, they had a chat while Arata was brought up to speed on the situation. Haa, I can’t read the language of this world… why bother?

“So, we’re currently working on the trial between Selena, a female squire, and Cayden Noble, her superior. You may read this.” Clemence hands him some information.

Huh? This is in English, the prison… maybe because of its age, a different empire existed then… huh.

The paper reads: “Defendant Cayden Noble is convicted of murder. The night was September 39, 59. Cayden Noble, in his mansion with Selena Velmore and her father, Edwin Velmore, attacked Selena and Edwin Velmore during the night. Edwin’s corpse was later found in the mansion’s living room. Selena reports that the two of them had gotten into a fight over Cayden’s abuse of authority and violent behavior, which he used Selena as an outlet for. Defendant claims that Edwin Velmore attacked him, warranting self-defense, which matches the blunt trauma on the defendant’s forehead.”

“Hey Clemence, this report is missing quite a lot of details, what weapons were involved, autopsy on Edwin, I also wish we had a lot more to work with. It’s also kinda weird he never got arrested for such a crime.” Arata questions Clemence repeatedly. Strange for a case like this to be happening, at least for someone of my world.

Clemence, sounding shocked and slightly impressed, said, “You catch on fast, Arata. Unfortunately, he’s got a hand in the legal system since he’s a noble. He would go to prison in many other cities; however, each city has local laws. That’s why I’ve filed this one myself.” Clemence, holding a paper, begins to smush it between her fingers, trying not to let out her frustrations.

Arata looks back down into the documents, “And? What about the missing information?”

Clemence now crumples up the paper, fuming with rage, “That bastard’s lawyer, for some reason, doesn't allow trespassers onto the crime scene! Why the hell does the law allow for that?! Any entity that appears in court is not allowed to trespass onto private property for information related to the case! That’s also why Selena got evicted, .”

This world is always shitty… I can’t believe you can just do that. Wait-“Those, they’re the exact words? Is The any entity that appears in court? Hypothetically… I have an idea.” Arata begins to show a small smirk.

“Ye-yeah, what do you got planned? Go right ahead, if our opposition is playing dirty, then why can’t we?” Clemence responds, trying to be polite.

Later that night, Arata finds himself standing right outside the location, the mansion is ordinarily closed to all visitors. He’s also got his secret weapon with him, Ravenna. The angel looks at him, wondering what kind of plan he had.

“It’s all fine if it’s a third party doing the work, right? Ravenna, since you can’t interact with stuff on this plane normally, I need you to phase into that building.” Arata explains. This is the true best way to deal with entitled people, malicious compliance~

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

Ravenna’s eye twitches a little, “S- sure, I guess, it’s a team effort after all. You just have to circle the building since I can’t get too far from you.”

Arata waves goodbye to Ravenna as he decides to look up at the mansion, yet someone’s eyeing him back. That salaryman-looking guy’s here too?

On the second floor were a set of eyes, peering down onto Arata.

Arata gets to work, a casual stroll around the perimeter; there are a few guards belonging to Cayden. They seem confused by what’s going on. Arata has continued to do this for thirty minutes straight. One of them decides to step in. He hoists his polearm toward Arata’s neck, stopping Arata in his tracks.

“What are you doing, outsider? Why do you keep circling the building! Answer for yourself.” The guard shouts, sweating a little in confusion.

“Oh no~ but you can’t arrest me, I’m not doing anything illegal, it’s just a walk. Put down your weapons, you don’t have the guts to kill me. What would your wife and kids say!” Arata jests with the man.

“She left me and took the kids, so yes, I can kill you by the logic…” The guard presses the tip of the spearhead against Arata’s neck.

“Help! These men are attacking me! Anyone HELP!” Arata yells out in the direction of the building. Ravenna peeks out from a window at him, sighing, clearly unimpressed by his behavior. Yet she’s not the only one who’s unimpressed; the man of the hour, Cayden, steps out of his house.

“Oh, great venerable Cayden Noble! Please withdraw your guards! I beg thee.” Arata exclaims before he begins to grovel, he knows he’s getting into their heads, for the first time ever, he doesn’t feel socially awkward doing something like this. It’s surprisingly fun.

Cayden begins to shout at Arata, “Why are you doing this! You do know this is still considered trespassing, I should chase you away right now-”

Arata begins to sweat, so as not to reveal his goal and to mess with Cayden a little more, he responds with the vernacular masterpiece, “I just wanted to check on the rose gardens.”

“You’ve been strolling around my house for half an hour!” Cayden screams in return.

“It was a tasteful arrangement!” Arata rebuts, Cayden is speechless. He draws his sword, ready to strike down Arata when another hand is placed over his sheath.

It was the man from earlier, with a similar tired expression yet despite seemingly being a lackey to Cayden, gave his boss a condescending look, “Sir Cayden, please, I ask that you do not make a fool of yourself. This man is not in the wrong. A man with an uninhibited spirit should be able to do as they please. Do not let yourself be coaxed into such a course of action.”

This guy, is this his first time speaking since becoming a thesaurus? The way he speaks is so… off-putting. Arata tries to look past the two men when Ravenna waves to Arata.

“I forgot something at Madam Kovalenko’s, sorry oh generous lord Cayden.” Arata makes a dash for it, which Cayden doesn’t bother pursuing.

Arata returns back to Clemence’s office, a smug look dresses his expression.

“Dinner can wait, Clemence, lemme write something up real quick.” Arata boasts, meanwhile, Ravenna dissipates, returning to the theater.

Clemence’s eyes widen in shock, “Arata, how did you- can we use this in court?!”

Arata chuckles in response, “I have eyewitnesses that I never entered the property so don’t worry. It’s legitimate evidence to use.”

“Arata, that's not how that works-”

“They weren't following the law either. They are going to dig themselves into a hole if they try to dispute that.” Arata proudly expresses having stolen Ravenna’s work.
