= Chris’ POV =
After the meeting with the higher-ups.
I walked through the hotel car park beaming. I opened my car door, sat down, and smmed the door. The time read 2 pm, which was so early in the day for me. I hadn’t been out in the middle of the day for weeks.
In fact, I hadn’t been doing anything but eating, sleeping, and then working for weeks. I don’t even remember the st time I checked my phone. I remember receiving a lot of messages, so I turned it to silent mode at some point. However, I forgot to unsilenced my phone, and I was probably missing so many text messages from Sarah.
I took out my phone and turned off silent mode. I opened the YoYap app, and immediately, I was hit with notification after notification. I scrolled through all of them, and then, surprisingly, they seemed to have stopped. I read the st message, which had been sent a week ago.
“Hi Chris, I got a job; I started today, umm, thanks. I’ll start paying back stuff when I get my first pay” – Sarah.
I leaned back and smiled. This had to be the best day of my life! Not only did I just get promoted, but she found herself a job. Finally? This moment needed to be celebrated!
I looked through the messages; however, she didn’t include anything about the job, so I figured that she wanted to tell me in person. Now that I had time, we could talk, and tell me all about the new job!
I started the car and pulled out of the car parking spot excitedly. I had a few pces in mind that I wanted to pick up things from to celebrate these amazing achievements in our lives, and thankfully, they were close to home, so I could stop by and pick them up on my way home.
I drove down to a lovely florist who was about two blocks away from my apartment. Jessica was a wizard with a bunch of flowers, and she knew all about flower meanings and what type of flower was best for what type of event.
“Jessica, how are you doing today?” I asked, walking into the flower shop with a pep in my step.
Jessica was, as usual, at the flower arrangement counter, surrounded by fresh blooms, cutting away at an arrangement.
“I’m guessing you are here for another bundle of success?” She asked, grinning. “ Did you manage to get that promotion you were aiming for?”
“You bet I did, and my gi- I mean roommate finally got a job after a long time job hunting, so I wanted to get something for the both of us” I expined. I really needed to stop equating Sarah with my girlfriend in my head; my wishful thinking was going to get me in trouble one of these days.
“Oh, that is lovely! I didn’t know you had a girlfriend. Last time I checked, we were still in an on-off retionship.” Jessica smirked as she took out a huge bouquet of white roses and Amaryllis from her air-conditioned storage dispy.
“I don’t have a girlfriend; it was a slip of the tongue,” I said quickly, running a hand through my hair.
“Oh…is it Sarah? You always slip up when talking about Sarah. I can’t believe you moved in with her. You know she will never be on the table” Jessica sighed “Lesbians and their straight girl crushes”
“Well…what if she was…this time..” I said under my breath, looking at my feet.
Jessica smmed her hand on the cashier counter, making me startle and look up.
“Hey, Sarah is the sweetest, most gullible person we know. Don’t f*** with her; you know how easily she falls in and out of love. Even if she is, fictionally on the table, are you capable of taking responsibility for her heart?” Jessica asked, clutching the bouquet tightly as if she was going to hit me with it.
“Ok, ok, jeez, I was just joking,” I said, putting my hands up apologetically.
Jessica squinted at me “You better be joking. The st thing I want to hear is Sarah being in the clutches of some pyer who will just string her along again, she has terrible luck with retionships. Anyway, why is she staying at your pce?”
“Wait, I never confirmed that I was talking about Sarah being my roommate,” I said, starting to regret this whole conversation.
“Oh? Well. That’ll be 59.90. Whoever this roommate is, better not become a part of your sex friend list like I am. I mean at least call me out occasionally for drinks”, Jessica chided.
“I’m just so busy, and whenever we hang out, you are just so sexy” I smiled coyly, handing her my credit card.
Jessica shook her head and tapped the card on the card reader. She handed back the card to me and pced the beautiful bouquet into a cy white bag that held the bouquet perfectly.
“Well, you’re going to have to find a way to restrain yourself because you’re soon going to get an invitation to my wedding,” Jessica said sheepishly as she handed me the flowers.
“Really? Congratutions! Who is the lucky man?” I asked.
“Hana. She kind of made me a basket of pastries, took me out for a picnic, and proposed under a wisteria tree; you know those are my favorite. It was hard to say no to someone so sweet and earnest, you know?” Jessica said, blushing a little as she thought back to the day.
“Wow, I wish you both well. I must pop by her workpce ter and say congratutions” I grinned.
“Sure! If you hurry, you’ll probably catch her; her shift ends at 3 pm a the café” Jessica beamed “ She always looked up to you, I bet she would be so delighted to hear that from her senior”
“Alright, then, I have about 20 minutes to go catch her before she comes here to tell you sweet nothings. I’m looking forward to the wedding! sure, Hana, you have the cake settled, and I’m sure I can get her boss to lend her the event hall, and with your flowers, I’m sure the wedding is going to be amazing,” I grinned.
Jessica cpped her hands together and smiled so brightly. “Yes, I know, right? Please talk to her boss for me. Hana tried, but it was hard to get her to agree to allow us to use the space as there always seemed to be events going on. It would be a great help if you did”
“You got it,” I nodded. “Ok, I’ll be expecting that invitation; see you ter, Jessica,” I said and left with a lovely bouquet of flowers in my hand. My happiness meter just kept climbing today; I really hope nothing tipped the scales because I felt like I was on a high.
