Chapter 16 – Invasion

  The Ant Queen's POV //

  Chomp. Chomp.

  Mmm... delicious.

A towering, 16-foot-tall monstrosity savored its meal, each bite producing a grotesque, unsettling sound. A human hand briefly protruded from its mouth before being swallowed whole.

  More... bring me more food.

The Ant Queen issued her command, her antennae twitching as she reyed her will to her devoted subjects. Instinctively, the worker ants sprang into action—obedience was ingrained in their very being, their sole purpose to serve their queen.

Scurrying through the tunnels, they retrieved the captured creatures stored in the colony’s rder. Without hesitation, they carried the prey to their ravenous ruler, their movements swift and precise.

  Shake

  Hmm? A tremor?

A faint tremor rippled through the ground, momentarily distracting the Ant Queen from its feast.

That area... I have minions stationed there.

Sensing something amiss, the queen extended her command, directing her minions to investigate. However, her connection to them wavered intermittently, an unusual disruption in her normally seamless control.

She waited for a response. But unlike the worker ants, who existed only to follow orders until their inevitable demise—serving as sustenance for their kin upon death—these particur minions cked the capacity to report back. They were not designed for communication, only for action.

The soldier ants, however, were different. Programmed to rey simple messages, they would notify their queen of intrusions or disturbances within the nest.

Go. Investigate and resolve the situation.

  Understood, Mother.

This time, she didn’t just send another wave of soldier ants. Instead, she commanded one of her more powerful creations, a minion birthed from her own body, to lead them—ensuring her will was carried out without fail.

There were four of these creatures, personally crafted by the Ant Queen using her own magical power. Unlike the worker and soldier ants, which were birthed through ordinary means from other ants, these elite creations were formed from the queen’s own magic and flesh. As a result, they were far more powerful and intelligent—her most formidable minions and ultimate defenders, ensuring her survival.

They primarily served as the Ant Queen's personal guards. However, since she had created four of them, she deemed sending just one sufficient to handle the issue—aligning with her thoughts.

Those should be enough... More food.

The Ant Queen commanded, resuming its feast.

  ?

  ?

  ?

  ?

The swarm of ants that once blocked my path had been reduced to nothing but ashes and charred corpses, their bodies consumed by the raging fmes I unleashed.

“The popping sounds of your deaths are like music to my ears—such a satisfying melody! Hahaha!” I mocked, ughing cruelly.

The sound of their bodies bursting as they were engulfed by my fiery breath was almost hypnotic—an eerie yet gratifying symphony of destruction.

“I wonder... now that I’ve made such a mess in its ir, will your queen finally reveal itself?” I sneered pyfully.

“Hmph... no matter. You’ve angered this dragon, and now you shall feel my wrath in return.” I decred with unwavering resolve.

I pressed forward, heading deeper into the source of the swarm.

The structure of the ants' nest was intricate, riddled with countless tunnels and openings—even on the cave’s ceiling. Every now and then, worker ants would emerge and lunge at me. But they were nothing more than minor nuisances—mere insects crushed beneath my cws, meeting their inevitable demise.

Yet, I wouldn’t lose my way. A powerful presence lingered not far ahead, and thanks to my sharp senses—a trait I was truly grateful for—I could detect formidable creatures as long as they weren’t deliberately concealing themselves. But monsters rarely had the intelligence for such deception. Cunning tactics weren’t in their nature, especially not for mere ants.

“They’re nothing but insects crawling aimlessly,” I scoffed dismissively.

I ventured deeper into the nest, soon detecting another swarm of ants. However, this time, something was different—a stronger presence lingered behind them, radiating power.

“Hmm… still hiding, huh?” I mused. “I thought it was just sending another useless wave of insects, but it seems I was wrong… a new type has appeared.”

As before, a swarm of worker and soldier ants emerged, crawling from the walls, the floor, and even the ceiling, ready to attack.

“Oh… a commander type, huh? How interesting.” I excimed, momentarily surprised by the ant's commander's commanding ability.

Wasting no time, I prepared another bst of my fiery breath.

“Then let your deaths compose a melodic hymn that echoes through this cave,” I mocked.

With that, a torrent of fmes erupted, engulfing the entire swarm. Their bodies burned alive, the satisfying sound of their popping remains filling the cavern like a twisted symphony.

As my fmes gradually faded, all that was left were ashes and charred remains—another swarm reduced to nothing.

“Oh… how surprising,” I excimed, genuinely intrigued to see the commander ant still standing.

Now that it was fully revealed, I took in its imposing form—a towering six-foot-tall figure with a hardened white carapace. Its four front arms were raised in defense, shielding its body from my fmes as it endured the attack.

“I bet that still hurt, didn’t it?” I taunted with a smirk.

From what I knew, ants were highly vulnerable to fire, making it easy to burn them alive. This weakness was precisely why I dared to attack their nest so boldly, knowing my fmes would be their undoing.

But seeing this one withstand my fme breath, I was struck by the realization that not all creatures share the same weaknesses as those I once knew. They may resemble the beings I’m familiar with, but they are different—stronger, more resilient than I had expected.

The commander ant’s damaged front legs, charred and cracked from my fmes, shifted slightly before spreading apart, fully revealing its towering form. Its presence was imposing—despite taking a direct hit, it stood firm, unmoving, staring at me from the same spot as if my attack had been nothing.

Seconds passed, yet it remained motionless, like a statue, patiently waiting for me to make the first move.

“Hmm… this one’s smart. Clearly, it has more intelligence than the other mindless insects. Still, You're still the same as them though” I sneered.

Yet, the commander ant didn’t react, simply watching me in eerie silence, and it's antenna was twitching. I wasn’t sure if it even understood my taunts, but as I examined its face for any sign of emotion, I found nothing. Of course, that was to be expected—unlike creatures with flesh and muscle, its rigid carapace was like an unmoving mask, incapable of expression.

Our stare down sted for a while before I decided to take action. The commander ant immediately noticed my movement.

“Since my fme breath doesn’t work on you, how about a physical attack instead?”

I dashed forward, closing the distance. If magic couldn’t harm it, then brute strength would have to do.

As I approached, the commander ant raised its massive front leg, attempting to crush me with a powerful strike. However, I swiftly dodged before it could connect. Its long legs kept its body suspended in midair, making it difficult to nd a direct hit—an irritating advantage.

“Why don’t you lower your head, you damn bug?!” I shouted in frustration, then retaliated by striking the leg I had just dodged.

  Snap

The ant’s front leg shattered, causing it to stagger backward.

“Keke… Kuahahahaha!” I burst into ughter. “So my fmes did work after all, huh?”

The commander ant’s legs had become brittle, weakened from acting as a shield against my fire. Now, even a small impact was enough to break them like fragile gss.

“Hmmp, I overestimated you. What a disappointment.” I scoffed, exhaling in frustration. “This fight will be easier than I thought.”
