A deep, bone-chilling rumble echoed through the cavern as I faced the awakened dragon, its eyes glowing with ancient malice. My knees trembled, and my body refused to move.
"What are you doing here, human?" the dragon's voice thundered, each word sinking into my chest like a physical blow.
The oppressive dark aura surrounding it wrapped around me, sapping my strength and will. My vision blurred, and before I could utter a single word, the world around me faded to bck.
When I awoke, a soft voice, smooth and enchanting, pulled me from the abyss of unconsciousness.
"How are you feeling, human?"
I opened my eyes, my head spinning from the oppressive energy that still lingered in the air. The sight before me was both mesmerizing and surreal—a woman stood there, radiating an otherworldly beauty. Her long bck hair shimmered in the dim light, flowing like liquid night. Two sharp horns adorned her head, and a sleek bck tail curled and uncurled behind her. Her golden eyes glowed with a mixture of curiosity and amusement.
"I... I’m fine," I murmured, my voice barely audible.
She smiled, a pyful glint in her eyes. "Oh, I see. What is your name, human?"
I blinked, trying to gather my thoughts. But something caught my attention—a realization that made my face blush. "W-Wait... why aren’t you wearing any clothes!?"
Her smile widened into a mischievous grin. "My, my... is this the first time you’ve seen a woman naked?"
I quickly turned my gaze away, my face burning with embarrassment. "S-Shut up!"
She chuckled softly, her voice like a melody. "How cute."
"I said shut up!"
Taking a deep breath to compose myself, I stood and gave a respectful bow. "I am Arthur Bckthorne, second and youngest son of the Duke family of Ignaroth Kingdom. May I know your name, my dy?"
Her eyes gleamed with a flicker of pride. "I am Yamikage, the second strongest dragon in the world. Humans call me the Dark Mage Dragon of Destruction and Terror."
My heart stopped. "W-What!?"
A nervous ugh escaped my lips. "Surely... surely you’re joking—"
Her smile vanished, and her eyes narrowed. A wave of icy dread washed over me.
"You dare to doubt me?" Her voice was low, cold, and dangerous.
The temperature of the cavern dropped, and the air grew heavy with an unseen force. My instincts screamed at me to run, but my legs refused to move.
"N-No! I-I take it back!" I dropped to my knees, bowing deeply. "O Great Yamikage, please forgive my insolence!"
She regarded me for a moment, then sighed. "Very well. I’ll forgive you... this time."
"T-Thank you."
Her expression softened once more, and she gave me a pyful smirk. "And drop the ‘Great’ part. Just call me Yamikage."
"Y-Yamikage-san... do all dragons have the ability to take humanoid form?" I asked, hoping to shift the conversation to something less dangerous.
"No," she replied, a hint of pride in her tone. "Only the five strongest dragons in the world can assume this form."
"I see..."
As we talked, I found myself rexing, her presence becoming less terrifying and more... captivating. I shared my story with her—the tale of how my family discarded me, beling me a failure with no talent in magic or swordsmanship.
Yamikage listened intently, her golden eyes softening with an emotion I couldn’t quite pce. It felt strange, confiding in a dragon, but her attention never wavered.
Finally, curiosity got the better of me. "Yamikage-san... if you’re so powerful, why have you stayed in this cave for a thousand years?"
The atmosphere shifted. Her pyful demeanor vanished, repced by a shadow of something darker and ancient. Her eyes grew distant, and the air around us grew colder.
Before I could ask further, she changed the subject abruptly.
"Hey, Arthur... would you like to learn dark magic?"
Her question caught me off guard. "What?"
Her smile returned, but there was something unsettling in her gaze now a spark of anticipation. "I can teach you. With my power, you can surpass your family... surpass everyone."
My heart raced at the thought. Power real power. The chance to prove myself, to show my family that I wasn’t the failure they believed me to be. But something about her offer felt... dangerous.
"What do you want in return?" I asked cautiously.
Her smile widened, and her eyes gleamed with an enigmatic light.
"Oh... you’ll find out soon enough."
Her words lingered in the air like a promise and a warning.
