Chapter 42: The Passage Reopens
"Oh oh oh oh oh!!!"
The Child of Chaos, struck by the white light, let out an angry roar. At the same time, Alex saw the "space" around it crack like gss hit by a stone.
Apanied by a crag sound, the fissures grew rger until, with a loud crash, the space around the Child of Chaos shattered, revealing a giant rift that began to suck everything around it like a bck hole.
What the hell!
Alex hurriedly plunged his sword into the ground, gripping the hilt tightly. He hadn't expected this "banishment" to be so indiscriminate, affeg everything. Usually, in novels, banishing demons was a targeted single-enemy spell, right?
The others were having a tough time as well. Stone and Malt struggled to prop up the lid of the sarcophagus, with a shining beam of white light shooting out, maintaining the rift.
Several padins y ft on the ground, ging desperately to anything they could grasp.
Alex himself was barely holding on; his body was almost airborne.
If not for his sword firmly embedded in the ground, he would have been sucked in by the giant "vacuum er."
But that wasn't the main issue. The real problem was the damned Child of Chaos. Half its body was already ihe rift, but it g to the edges with its limbs, trying to crawl out.
"Grab my hand, boy!"
Stone, clutg the stone sb with one haehe other towards Alex. But Alex didn't respond.
He frowned, g the Child of Chaos behind him, then looked back at the sarcophagus lid—the holy light was starting to fade, and Stone and Malt looked exhausted. They wouldn't hold out much longer. But the Child of Chaos seemed like it could still keep going.
This wasn't going to end well.
Without further thought, Alex made a decision. The Child of Chaos appeared to be resisting the pull of the rift and slowly crawling out.
The rift itself was being unstable, and he didn't know how long Stone and Malt could hold on, but they didn't look good.
There was only one way.
With a moment of ption, Alex, who had learo find life withih in the world of Free World, decided to take a small risk. Besides, he had his ace up his sleeve.
Alex g his system interface; the teleport option's cooldown was in its final tdown.
Ten seds.
"Alex, what are you doing?"
Seeing Alex's ck of respoone shouted again. Alex g him, then smiled slightly. He suddenly yanked his sword from the ground and flung himself towards the rift.
"What are you doing, boy?"
Stone was sturying to stand up to stop him, but the immense wind pressure forced him back down.
He could only watch as Alex soared through the air like a bird, sword in hand, turning into a streak of white light that pierced the Child of Chaos.
"—————!!"
Sensing the dahe Child of Chaos roared. Although its limbs were occupied, it wasn't helpless. The armor on its chest opened, revealing two long arms that reached for Alex.
Fag the ining cws, Alex raised his sword and struck down, g with the iron-like cws with a deep thud.
Meanwhile, the holy power on the sarcophagus lid finally depleted. The white beam maintaining the rift disappeared, and without the holy power, the rift began to close.
The Child of Chaos roared and pushed forward, half its body emerging from the rift. A bit more effort, and it would be free...
But the moment, a dazzling white light approached, f it to shut its eyes.
"What is that...?"
At this moment, the padins were stunned. Seeing the Child of Chaos break free from the spatial rift, they thought they had failed.
But then Alex did something astonishing—he pressed forward with his long sword, and the silver bde erupted with a blinding radiance.
The pure white holy light burst forth, transf into a winged figure bathed in silvery light, which bypassed the Child of Chaos's defenses and struck its exposed body.
"An angel!"
Malt screamed, while the Child of Chaos had no time to react. It could only watch as the figure of light and the sword plunged into its chest, the powerful impact f it back. Finally, the Child of Chaos could no longer hold on.
Its body, almost free from the rift, was shoved back. It lost bance, screamed, and was sucked into the rift. Yet, it wasn't willing to go down without a fight—its cws lu Alex in a desperate attempt.
"g!"
Alex blocked the desperate attack with his sword. The angelic figure returo the bde, and the Child of Chaos disappeared into the void with a final scream.
However, the danger for Alex was not over.
The spatial rift tio su everything around it like a bck hole. Alex, now caught in its pull, flew towards the rift like a fish in a whirlpool.
Three seds left.
The rift had shrunk to half a person's width, but Alex was now less than a meter away from it. In just a blink, he would be sucked in pletely or, worse, cut in half by the closing rift.
Time's up.
Alex ighe chaos around him, fog ily on the system interface before him.
As the teleport option turned active, he quickly reached out and pressed it. Instantly, a dazzling white portal appeared in front of him, swallowing him up.
At that moment, the spatial rift closed and disappeared.
"....."
The entire cavern fell silent. The padins stared at the se, speechless. It felt like a dream, yet they k wasn't.
"Damn it!"
Stone puhe ground in frustration a. He hadn't seely what Alex did at the st moment, but the young man's absence spoke volumes.
"Stone, who exactly is Alex?"
Malt, sensing something amiss, questioned. He had thought Alex was merely talented, but the appearance of the angel had ged everything.
"Don't ask. I won't tell you anyway... Sigh..."
Stone didn't answer Malt's question. He sighed deeply, staring at the y ground.
"This kid... really is something..."
"e on, Stone, rex. I think he'll be fine."
Malt patted Stone's shoulder reassuringly.
"If he summon an angel, he must be blessed by the Goddess. She won't let him get hurt."
"Let's hope so. He's still so young... Sigh, I should have..."
"Rumble..."
Before Stone could finish, the cavern began to tremble. Cracks appeared in the walls, and debris mixed with dust started falling.
The loss of the sealing power, bined with the battle's impact, made it clear the cavern wouldn't hold for much lohe sight armed everyone.
"Damn it, we o get out of here, now!"
Led by Stone and Malt, the remaining padins quickly evacuated the cavern. Behind them, debris and dust poured down like a tidal wave, burying the entire space.
