Roberts family reunion

Every time we go to Oregon, Jan and I decide that we just have to move there. There's no escaping that Oregon boasts some of the most beautiful surroundings in the world. And it sure isn't hot, the way Texas is!

Jan's cousin Cordie and her husband Larry hosted the first ever Roberts family reunion at their new spread in Silverton, Oregon. They seemingly searched forever for this place -- up on a forested hill, huge lot, a barn to house Larry's cars. What delighted Jan and me about the place was the abundance of wildlife. It was like a scene from Walt Disney's Snow White, where all the sweet animals of the forest come 'round and fawn over the princess. The property is, of course, frequented by deer and countless squirrels. But what really blew us away was how many different types of birds there were, ranging from bluebirds to orioles to finches to hummingbirds to woodpeckers.

The get-together was blessed by beautiful, clear weather which followed a long string of daily rains. Just to be safe, Cordie had set up tables in the garage. Good thing we didn't have to use them, though, what with the large number of people that showed up. And with the weather being so nice, the kids were able to have the run of the grounds, which from their point of view must have resembled a summer camp!
