Americus, Ga.

One morning while Jan relaxed with her coffee at the B&B, I strolled toward town, camera in hand.

Spying me on the street looking for things to shoot, young Eddie bounded out of a shop and demanded, "Take my picture!". I placed him in front of a nearby fruit stand and did.

Down an alley beside the hotel, I noticed a number of women in their Easter finery going into some place I could not make out. It turned out to be the senior citizen center, where lunch was going on, to be followed by a hat contest. There would be prizes for the best hats in three categories. I helped set up by moving furniture, and made the acquaintance of Mrs. Smith of Augusta, Georgia, who was in town visiting a friend.

At the First Presbyterian Church a man was sitting in an office that was open to the street. He explained that he was the groundskeeper. He was retired from coaching high school and college football, and before that from the military. He showed me the building's fine woodwork and related the essentials of the church's history.
